Wu-Tang Clan and Nas Announces 'New York State Of Mind Tour'

 


Two of New York’s finest hip-hop acts are coming together for a collaborative tour. On Tuesday (April 19), the Wu-Tang Clan and Nas announced their New York State Of Mind Tour.


Produced by Live Nation, the 25-stop event begins Tuesday, Aug 30 in St. Louis, Missouri and will continue through major cities across North America including Toronto, D.C., Raleigh, Atlanta, Houston, and Oakland, before wrapping up Tuesday, October 4 in Los Angles, California.

Connecting Black Studies with STEM Subjects

 


The University of California San Diego will be bringing in 13 new, tenure-track faculty members who will connect Black studies with STEM subjects. Diverse Education reports three hires have already been announced.


The first three hires by UCSD are neurobiologist Dr. Hiruy Meharena, computer scientist Dr. Imani N.S. Munyaka, and chemist Dr. Lisa Jones. UCSD’s DEI Chancellor, Dr. Becky Petit told Diverse Education this cluster of hires focuses on diversifying its Black faculty over the next two years. UCSD is also working on a cluster of Latinx talent.

Introduced by Tennis legends, Venus and Serena Williams, Queen Bey performed her Oscar-nominated song “Be Alive” from the Tragniew Park Tennis Courts in Compton, California, where Williams sisters played growing up.

American singer, rapper and songwriter Nathaniel Hale Jr., professionally known as Nate Dogg, was born August 19, 1969 in Clarksdale, Mississippi. By the age of 14, his parents would divorce and Nate would move with his mother to Long Beach, California. There he would meet rappers Warren G and Snoop Dogg when they attended the same high school. They bonded over their shared love of hip hop, with Nate singing over Snoop and Warren’s rhymes.

Jay-Z And Team Roc Raises $1 Million

 


Jay-Z’s continues to fight for social justice and reforms. Towards the end of last year, his Team Roc group covered the legal fees for protestors in Wisconsin. His and Meek Mill’s REFORM Alliance helped bring forth a new California bill that limits probation sentences to one year for misdemeanors and two for felonies. Now Jay-Z and Team Roc helped raise $1 million to investigate wrongful convictions in a Kansas county.

SoFi Stadium in Inglewood will play host to an all-star concert that will be broadcast and streamed worldwide as part of a global effort to inspire confidence in COVID-19 vaccines and encourage people to be inoculated, organizers announced today.


Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World will be pre-taped at SoFi Stadium and air May 8 as part of a worldwide event broadcasting on ABC, CBS, Fox, YouTube and on iHeartMedia radio stations. Selena Gomez will host the event, which will include performances by Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters, J Balvin and H.E.R.

According to a report from the New York Post, NYC’s Black Lives Matter chapter chairperson Hawk Newsome has called for an investigation into one of the co-founders’ finances after purchasing real estate totaling $3.2 million.


Newsome has called for a probe into Patrisse Cullors’ financial records after the BLM co-founder bought four homes, including a $1.5 million home in the white, residential area of Topanga Canyon in L.A. County. According to the report, Cullors and her wife, Janaya Khan, own a custom ranch that is equipped with a airplane hangar in Georgia as well as a $500K, three bedroom home in Inglewood, CA.

As countries around the world tighten lockdowns, impose curfews, ban large get-togethers and even halt alcohol sales to tackle a surge in coronavirus cases, officials in India and the U.S. announced some progress toward expanded immunization campaigns as infections rates continued to climb on multiple continents.


In the U.S., the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Saturday said the country had administered more than 4.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines nationwide and had distributed more than 13 million doses.
