Kendrick Lamar Gift To Fan Touches Hearts

During his “DAMN. Tour” stop in Dallas this past weekend, Kendrick Lamar met one of his biggest fans, a woman named Jennifer Phillips, who happened to be quadriplegic and used a wheelchair ever since a 2007 car accident that caused a spinal cord injury.

In addition to the van however, Kendrick also gave Jennifer a signed jacket and a customized Dallas Mavericks jersey with his government name, Duckworth, on it. The signed autograph jacket read: “Thank you for always supporting me. Your a inspiration for me. You are strong and positive. Your kind and beautiful. For all the years of inspiring me, the least I can do is make sure your comfortable driving the city. A gift from me to you. Your always appreciated! — K. Lamar.”

K Dot gave her a brand new modified van to help with her disability in the process. Philips revealed the touching story on her social media accounts, which included a clip of K. Dot presenting her the gifts.

Kendrick Lamar Named "Greatest Rapper of His Generation"

Drake, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar were three of the best-selling rappers of the 2010s. They released their debut albums in succession (2010, 2011, and 2012), and the age difference between the iconic emcees is only two years. Each of the thought-provoking recording artists has Grammy awards on their resume, with legions of fans who will vouch for their superiority as lyricists.

However, when it comes to the writers and editors at the New York Times, they have determined that Kendrick Lamar reigns supreme, which is an accomplishment considering that media outlets on the East Coast, whether they're hip-hop based, pop culture magazines or daily newspapers, have historically heaped such praise on rappers in their region, for the most part.

Kendrick Lamar Sued

(The Wrap-Up Magazine) Kendrick Lamar and his label Top Dawg Music are being sued for a Bill Withers sample used in the Compton rapper’s song “I Do This” off 2013’s Kendrick Lamar EP mixtape, according to a lawsuit obtained by Billboard.

“The musical composition “I Do This” consists of nothing more than new, so-called Rap or Hip Hop lyrics, set to the existing music of “Don’t Want You To Stay,” reads the suit filed by Mattie Music Group, who claims to own the rights to Withers’ 1975 record, which appeared on the Making Music, Making Friends album.

The suit, first reported by TMZ, also states that given “I Do This” still being offered for sale and available for download on “various internet music providers,” “Plaintiffs are informed and believe that Defendant Lamar has openly admitted that his musical composition ‘I Do This’ copies the music of ‘Don’t Want You To Stay’ with a thumb to the nose, catch me if you can attitude.” A rep for Lamar did not immediately respond to Billboard’s request for comment.

Lamar has been served papers on prior occasions including last July when a freelance photographer sued him for using a photo without permission for his “The Blacker The Berry” digital artwork, a single that appeared on his Grammy-winning set To Pimp a Butterfly.

In 2014, Lamar was also hit with a lawsuit by Eric Woolfson and his group, The Alan Parsons Project, who believed he had improperly sampled their song “Old and Wise” without consent on his track “Keisha’s Song (Her Pain),” which appeared on his 2011 Section.80 project.

#BringItBack Kendrick Lamar - Ignorance Is Bliss #Throwback

The eighth track on Kendrick Lamar’s first full-length mixtape, Overly Dedicated, is titled after a popular idiom which translates to “what you don’t know can’t hurt you.” Kendrick raps the first verse without taking a single breath. This has become something of a habit for Kendrick Lamar as he repeated this feat on 2010’s “Look Out For Detox” and 2011’s “Rigamortus.”

Kendrick Lamar Is Waiting To Release New Albums

We haven't heard any new solo music from Kendrick Lamar in a while, but that doesn't mean he hasn't been working. According to his personal engineer, Derek "MixedbyAli" Ali, K-Dot is sitting on six album's worth of unreleased tracks.

Ali was a guest on The ETCs With Kevin Durant Podcast on Thursday (Nov. 12), where he talked with co-host Eddie Gonzalez about his career and working closely with the Top Dawg Entertainment team. He spoke specifically about Kendrick's work ethic, saying the Compton, Calif. MC has tons of material he hasn't put out yet.

"For Kendrick alone, let me say, I think we could put together like six albums," Ali said around the 34-minute mark. "And, you know, we got everyone's the same way. It's all about just understanding that you could do something better. It's having that mindset to strive for the best possible version of you possible."

Streaming Music Has Sold More Than CDs

I have not heard a soul in this world that say they dislike +Spotify. Even artist can +Get Your Music On Spotify now and days. The music industry is changing, with music streaming earning more money than the sale of CDs for the first time ever in 2014. According to the RIAA, music streaming earned a total of $1.87 billion in 2014, while CDs generated $1.85 billion, with the entire industry earning $6.97 billion overall, which was slightly down from their numbers in 2013.

Though these numbers are close, it’s clear that streaming is on the upswing while CDs are becoming a thing of the past, especially with Spotify records already getting shattered by Kendrick Lamar and Drake just three months into the year. Now all music streaming services needs is for Taylor Swift to get on board, and it’s a wrap.
