Taylor Swift’s ‘Folklore’ Is No. 1 Album of 2020

The eighth album by Taylor Swift, “Folklore,” has gone down as the No. 1 album of 2020, finishing the year with 2.3 million album units. It pulled ahead in the end over Lil Baby’s star-making sophomore effort, “My Turn,” which came in second with 2.1 million in the album-equivalent-unit derby.

The results come via Rolling Stone, which broke down the year’s music consumption data into several different year-end charts, with the differences providing some interesting points of comparison. For instance: Swift also tops the list of the year’s biggest sellers — and Lil Baby is nowhere to be found in that particular top 10. On the other hand, Lil Baby easily landed atop a ranking of the year’s biggest streamers — and Swift is absent from that top 10.

On the overall list of the top 100 albums of 2020 — which represents a combination of streaming and sales data — the Swift and Lil Baby albums were followed in the top 10 by efforts from Pop Smoke, the Weeknd, Juice WRLD, Post Malone, Roddy Ricch, Luke Combs, Harry Styles and, getting its shot at No. 10 for the year, the “Hamilton” cast album.

Rihanna Named Puma Creative Director

+Rihanna has been mentioned in +PUMA as the most creative director. Continuing a recent trend of pop stars and musicians being given lucrative positions of athletic and streetwear brands, PUMA joins the ranks by naming Rihanna as their Creative Director.

While rumors have been circulating for nearly a month, the dubious title was confirmed this morning by the brand itself. The starlet touched down in PUMA’s hometown of Herzogenaurach, Germany yesterday for her first creative session with the design team, picking out colors, styles and discussing the line’s direction. Tapping Rihanna for the position doesn’t come as such a surprise, since PUMA has recently worked with Solange and competing brands continue to reach out to pop culture icons for their magic touch.

According to PUMA, the singer “will work with PUMA to design and customize classic PUMA styles as well as create new styles to add to the PUMA product portfolio.” She will also act as the company’s global brand ambassador, alongside Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt and football star Mario Balotelli, among others, while also being the face of PUMA’s ad campaign for Fall 2015.

Why Nelly And KRS-One Rap Beef Happened

In 2002, Nelly was one of hip-hop's biggest stars. His 2000 breakout debut, Country Grammar, sold nine million records.

Old school boom-bap rap pioneer, KRS-One, who had earned a reputation not just for his community-conscious lyrics but for never shying away from a lyrical showdown, called Nelly out.

KRS— who by that time had already proclaimed himself to be a keeper of classic hip-hop— voiced his discontent with Nelly on the track "Clear Em Out" from the compilation The Difference.

The song was aimed at pop-rap, and given his success as hip-hop's reigning top-seller at the time. Nelly took offense. He'd just dropped the track "#1" from the Training Day soundtrack, where he was defending his right to reign on top of the charts.

"He had to defend himself. He's like, 'My career probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for KRS-One,' that's what Nelly is on. My man got tired of critics and made a song '#1.' He wasn't specifically talking about nobody, but if the shoe fits, wear it."

KRS claimed he even sent an email to Nelly's camp, explaining there was no beef and he wasn't interested in getting into it with the St. Louis star. Nelly didn't get the memo, however, and in response, recorded a verse on the Freeway's "Roc the Mic" remix, on which he called out the veteran rhymer, letter by letter.

KRS responded by calling for an actual boycott of Nelly's album, Nellyville, which was scheduled to drop that June 2002, dramatically declaring himself a "sovereign power" in the process. Nelly challenged a sovereign power.

Needless to say, the whole boycott thing didn't exactly pan out the way KRS had hoped. June 25, 2002, rolled around, Nelly dropped Nellyville, and the entire world danced to the album's monster hit, "Hot in Herre." Nellyville ended up selling over 6 million albums and it stands as the 14th best-selling rap album of all time.

The singer, 39, posed for three covers for British Vogue’s December 2020 issue, on newsstands November 6.

Photographed by 21-year-old Kennedi Carter — the youngest photographer to shoot any British Vogue cover in the magazine’s 104-year history — Bey fronts one issue in a lime-colored Ivy Park look from her latest “Drip 2” collection, including a knit catsuit ($140), organza jacket ($160) and mesh bucket hat.

On the other two covers, the pop superstar wears a sheer Mugler bodysuit and a bold-shouldered Alexander McQueen blazer, sans pants.

“Everyone always wants to know what it’s like to work with Beyoncé and her incredible team, and the answer is… flawless,” British Vogue’s editor-in-chief Edward Enniful wrote about the experience. “A perfectionist to the core, more than anything, she wanted her Vogue moment to be filled with positivity as this trickiest of years draws to a close.”

Ariana Grande Receives Woman Of The Year

Sources report that Ariana Grande has been named Woman of the Year. Billboard just named the 25-year-old diva its Woman of the Year. Grande was on hand to receive the honor on Dec. 6.

Ariana Grande has had an incredibly successful year and on the heels of her Billboard 200 chart-topping fourth album Sweetener. “Ariana Grande is a star on her own terms, never bending to any particular musical trend or path in the industry.”

Certain in her convictions, she consistently stands up for herself and her decisions in a world that often isn’t hospitable to that sort of strength in young women. She’s got guts, she’s making some of the best music of her career, and she’s absolutely deserving of Woman of the Year.

Over the course of her career, Grande has claimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart three times. Her latest chart-topper was August's Sweetener, home to the hits "No Tears Left to Cry" and "God Is a Woman" and scoring the largest streaming week ever for a pop album by a female artist upon its release.

O.J. Simpson Is Back

Twenty years later, there’s no question that the so-called “Trial of the Century” was indeed that. It was America’s first true reality TV show, altering pop culture and the media in a way that no other event has since. Without O.J., there probably would have been no wall-to-wall coverage of the trials of Casey Anthony or George Zimmerman or Oscar Pistorius. There might not even be a “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” a reality show that has its own strange connection to the Simpson drama.

The O.J. Simpson saga was part Shakespearean tragedy and part trashy daytime soap opera, with an unlikely cast of characters and a juicy plot so strange and twisted that few dared to look away. Debating whether O.J. was guilty or not became a national pastime — encouraged by the fact that nearly every second of his trial was broadcast on television. And that debate was often divided along racial lines, underscoring the painful truth that blacks and whites continue to have drastically different views of justice in modern-day America.

It was a story that captivated the world: a beloved former football star accused of killing his glamorous ex-wife and her handsome friend in a grisly crime of passion. But whatever happened to the strange cast of characters that made up the O.J. saga? Here’s a look at some of the more memorable players of the O.J. show and what happened to them.

Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez to perform at Biden swearing-in

Pop artists Jennifer Lopez and Lady Gaga will be among A-listers who will perform at the largely-virtual swearing-in ceremony of Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States on January 20.

Gaga, one-of-a-kind artist, performer and a trailblazer in beauty and fashion, will sing the national anthem and Lopez will give a musical performance on the West Front of the US Capitol, where the ceremony will be taking place.

Biden, 78, and Kamala Harris, 56, will be sworn in as President and Vice President of the United States during the ceremony.

But it won't be a typical inauguration, for several reasons.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic and fresh security concerns following a pro-Trump mob breaching the Capitol last week have combined to force some changes to what is a historical American day.

Her first major film was Gregory Nava's My Family (1995), and her career went into over-drive when she portrayed slain Tejana singer Selena Quintanilla Perez in Selena (1997). At the movie wrap party for Selena (1997), on October 28, 1996 in San Antonio, the star played an unexpected love scene when her boyfriend Ojani Noa grabbed a microphone and proposed to her in the middle of the dance floor, presenting her with a large marquis-cut diamond ring.
