Would Jay-Z Be Better At Business or Law?

Rapper Jay-Z has been doing business ventures with different companies since the 1990's. Lately his newest venture outside of the music world has been taking on prison condition in the south, and fighting for justice where the cause is called.

I guess you can say its a little early to tell since having this new face in law is early in his late career. But with all the moves he has made and is making, how would you rate this question?

Donald Trump’s Lawyer Snaps On Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg is receiving some backlash for his controversial video, in which he shoots a Donald Trump look-alike.

Snoop Dogg’s video for “Lavender” featuring Kaytranadaha, been drawing the wrath of a variety Republicans, since it was released on March 12.

Snoop’s “Lavender” video features the rapper caught in a world of evil clowns, which features President Trump as the main protagonist.

Towards the end, Snoop grabs a fake gun and shoots the POTUS, who also smokes some bud in the video.

Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen took aim at Snoop Dogg over the clip, while expressing disappointment in the rap star.

“It’s totally disgraceful, Snoop owes the president and apology. There’s absolutely nothing funny about an assassination attempt on the President,” President Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen said.

Snoop and Trump were somewhat friendly in past years, before Trump launched his campaign and captured the White House last year.

Snoop infamously roasted the billionaire real estate mogul/reality show star for Comedy Central March of 2011, however, it looks like their friendship has certainly cooled off.

“This motherf##ker (Trump) tried to put up; him winning the presidency; police being able to kill motherf##kers and get away with it; people being in jail for weed for 20, 30 years and motherf**kers that’s not black on the streets making money off of it – but if you got color or ethnicity connected to your name, you’ve been wrongfully accused or locked up for it, and then you watching people not of color position themselves to get millions and billions off of it,” Snoop Dogg told Billboard.

Michael Cohen said there was a double standard, had anybody and had any popular musician put out such a video about President Obama, the condemnation would have come much faster.

“I would not have accepted it if it were President Obama I certainly do not accept it as President Trump,” Cohen said.

Cohen told Snoop he needed to take some notes from NFL legend Jim Brown, who decided to work closely with Trump instead of opposing the administration.

Michael Cohen joins a growing number of Trump supporters, like Senator Marco Rubio, an admitted hip-hop fan who condemned Snoop’s “Lavender” video.

Some hip-hop artists came out and supported Snoop’s video, like veterans Treach and Ice T, who had his own problems with the government over his “Cop Killer” track with Body Count in 1991.

However, Trump’s lawyer did not see the point of the video.

“I’m not really sure I understand the artistic value having someone dressed up as Trump and firing a weapon at him,” Michael Cohen stated.

According to reports, the Secret Service is looking into the “Lavender” video.

Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez Pardoned By Trump

As one of his final acts as president of the United States, Donald Trump issued more than 140 pardons and commutations on Tuesday night (Jan. 19). Among those granted clemency were Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez, early Death Row Records backer Michael "Harry-O" Harris and rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black, according to the White House.

Perez was granted a full pardon for being involved in a conspiracy to distribute narcotics, the White House said, a conviction that is more than 25 years old. "Since her conviction, Ms. Perez has taken full accountability for her actions and has turned her life around," the White House said in a statement. "She has been gainfully employed and has been an advocate for criminal justice reform in her community."

"I'm grateful to have received a pardon and to have formally closed that chapter of my life in the eyes of the law," Perez said in a statement provided to Billboard. "I have taken full accountability for my mistakes from 25 years ago, but I also take tremendous pride in my personal growth, perseverance and accomplishments since then. This pardon reinforces my lifelong commitment to advocate for criminal justice reform and social justice initiatives."

Tony Romo To Become New CBS Broadcaster

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is leaving football and going into broadcasting with CBS, league sources told ESPN. Romo has reached a verbal agreement with CBS to be its No. 1 color commentator — replacing former NFL quarterback Phil Simms — alongside play-by-play veteran Jim Nantz, sources confirmed to ESPN. He also had drawn interest from Fox and NBC. The Sports Business Journal first reported Romo’s agreement with CBS.

The Cowboys are planning to release him Tuesday. Dallas is expected to designate Romo as a post-June 1 release, softening the blow against the Cowboys’ cap this season. Instead of counting $24.7 million against the cap in 2017, Romo would count $10.7 million this year and $8.9 million in 2018. The Cowboys would gain $14 million in cap space this season, but it would not become available until June 2. The Cowboys will carry $19.6 million in dead money for the 2017 season, $8.9 million in 2018 and $3.2 million in 2019.

Romo’s decision came down to his health, sources close to the situation told ESPN. Romo, who turns 37 on April 21, believes his family and his health are paramount at this time in his life. He was limited to playing in just parts of five games over the past two seasons because of collarbone and back injuries, and he suffered a compression fracture in his back last August that led the way to Dak Prescott’s emergence.

OJ Simpson Soon To Be Released

A reputed legal analyst from Sports Illustrated and a University of New Hampshire law professor have both reported that they are confident O.J. Simpson will soon see the light of day, projecting that he will be released from prison come summer time.

"He's the kind of person who gets paroled. He has done a significant amount of time and, by all accounts, hasn't caused any problems [while in prison]," says Vegas criminal defense attorney Daniel Hill, who agrees with assessments made by SI's Michael McCann and U of NH professor Jon Wertheim.

Simpson, 70, has been serving time at Nevada's Lovelock Correctional Center since 2008, when he was convicted of a burglary which involved him attempting to take some of his playing days memorabilia from the Palace Station Hotel-Casino the year prior. The Hall of Fame NFL running back would be found guilty on 12 counts of charges ranging from conspiracy, to burglary and robbery, to kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon. The crime would land him a 33 year sentence.

Should Simpson earn an early release, he'd no doubt have to comply with a set of conditions that includes regular meetings with a parole officer, regular searches of his home and vehicles, and the need to acquire permission to leave his home state.

Simpson's release is dependent upon him proving that he would be a low-risk threat to society. Such a determination is made following a comprehensive review which weighs his performance in 11 concrete areas, including disciplinary write-ups, history of drug or alcohol abuse, and prior probation or parole revocation.

Darren Sharper Indicted

Almost 10 months after the Los Angeles County District Attorney‘s Office charged NFL safety Darren Sharper with seven felony counts, including two counts of rape by use of drugs, the 39-year-old Sharper was indicted in Louisiana Friday on aggravated rape and simple rape charges following a grand jury investigation.

If convicted of committing aggravated rape in Louisiana, Sharper would face “life imprisonment at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence,” according to a press release issued by the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s office earlier this year, citing Louisiana state law. The Orleans Parish DA obtained arrest warrants for Sharper and his acquaintance, Erik Nunez, on Feb. 27, 2015.

According to a spokesman for the Orleans Parish DA, Sharper was indicted on two counts of aggravated rape and one count of simple rape, Nunez was indicted on two counts of aggravated rape and one count of obstruction of justice, and another Sharper acquaintance, Brandon Licciardi, was indicted on three counts of human trafficking, one count of aggravated rape and one count of aggravated battery. Licciardi, a sergeant who worked in the traffic division of the St. Bernard (La.) Sheriff’s Office until being reassigned in June after he was under investigation, resigned Friday.

Sharper has already pleaded not guilty to charges in the L.A. County case. He remains jailed in Los Angeles. His lead attorney, Blair Berk, did not return a call and email from the Daily News for comment.Sharper was served an indictment by Tempe, Ariz. detectives March 12, and he was charged with two counts of sexual assault and three counts of administering dangerous drugs.

A Las Vegas investigation into similar alleged criminal behavior by Sharper — drugging women and sexually assaulting them — is still open, according to a Las Vegas Metro Police spokesman. A Miami Beach investigation of Sharper for alleged sexual assault was closed in May and no charges were filed.

Arizona authorities announced in March that they would not seek to extradite Sharper to face charges there until the Los Angeles rape case was completed. The Orleans Parish DA spokesman and assistant DA, Christopher Bowman, told the Daily News that while it is his office’s policy not to “comment on open cases, which this is now, all I will say is we are confident that we will be able to try Mr. Sharper within the time limits allowed under the law.”

Darren Sharper Sentenced To 18 Years

Former NFL All-Decade Team Safety Darren Sharper was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Thursday, August 18. The 40-year-old fallen star was handed down the judgement following U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo's rejection of a plea deal that would have allowed for the Virginia native's release after nine years. Sharper plead guilty to conspiracy and distribution of Alprazolam, Diazepam, and Zolpidem with the intent to commit rape, back in March of 2015.

The charges that lead to a conviction stem from up to 16 women coming forward to accuse Sharper of drugging, and in some cases, sexting them on separate occasions between October 2013 and January 2014. Before Sharper admitted to the crimes, prosecutors were primed to go to court with the case, having discovered a trail of incidents across Arizona, Nevada, Louisiana, and California. "They didn't deserve anything being a part of my heinous decisions," Sharper cried, having just learned of his fate for the next two decades. "I still don't know why I lived my life right for 38 years, and then I took this path."

Through 14 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, and New Orleans Saints between 1997 and 2010, Sharper established himself as one of the best defensive players in the game. He was a Super Bowl champion [2010] and a 5-time Pro Bowler, who at the time of his retirement held firm at number six on the all-time interceptions list. In 2016, Sharper made the Hall of Fame ballot. It remains to be seen whether the committee will at some point elect to vote him into the Hall, considering the fact that off-field behavior is not supposed to be taken into account in the process.

Jay-Z, Yo Gotti, And Team ROC File Lawsuit Over Conditions In Parchman Penitentiary

Jay-Z, Yo Gotti, and Team ROC have helmed legal action on behalf of 227 Mississippi inmates at Parchman Prison, Pitchfork can confirm via legal documents. The class action lawsuit has been brought against the new Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Nathan Burl Cain and prison healthcare provider Centurion. The complaint urges Cain and Centurion to address allegedly subpar living conditions at Parchman.

In addition to the lawsuit, Yo Gotti and Team ROC’s attorneys had several Parchman inmates submit sworn COVID-19 questionnaire forms detailing the lack of COVID-19 testing protocol at the prison. The returned questionnaires describe a lack of social distancing, PPE, and more at the penitentiary.
