Kyrie Irving Traded to Dallas Mavericks

 


Kyrie Irving previously requested that he be traded from the Brooklyn Nets ahead of the trade deadline. While there were a few teams interested, it was unknown where he would head for certain. The Brooklyn Nets reportedly offered Irving a contract extension but were turned down, as he was “vehemently against any stipulations in an extension.” Now, it has been reported that the point guard was traded to the Dallas Mavericks

LeBron James just became the first active NBA player to reach billionaire status while still playing. It was reported by Forbes that James' net worth surpassed the $1 billion mark after he earned $121.2 million in 2021.


The Akron, OH native has amassed immense wealth during his nearly two-decade playing career that has opened up many more opportunities off the court. LeBron has tallied $385 million in on-court earnings in addition to $900 million in off the court ventures.

The idea of jettisoning James, who averaged 30.3 points per game in his nineteenth season, has recently been floated by disgruntled Lakers fans and some media personalities who think the haul LeBron James could get in a trade would make the team immediately better.

Amari Cooper Traded to the Cleveland Browns

 


The Browns have acquired four-time Pro Bowler WR Amari Cooper in a trade Wednesday with the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for their 2022 fifth-round pick and a swapping of 2022 sixth-round picks.


Cooper, a seven-year veteran, has totaled 7,076 receiving yards, 517 receptions and 46 touchdowns since he was drafted out of Alabama with the fourth overall pick of the 2015 draft. He was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019 and has scored six or more touchdowns in five seasons in the league.

LeBron Becomes Part Owner of Red Sox

 


LeBron James has joined Fenway Sports Group as a partner, making him a part-owner of the Boston Red Sox, according to the Boston Globe. Maverick Carter, LeBron's longtime friend and business partner, also joined LeBron in the deal. Additionally, FSG is also taking a $750 million investment from RedBird Capital Partners.


LeBron already had a stake in the English soccer team Liverpool Football Club, whose majority owner is Fenway Sports Group. FSG is led by billionaire John Henry, and also includes the NESN cable channel, a marketing arm, a real estate firm, and Roush Fenway Racing. Henry, who is also the owner of the Boston Globe, will retain control of FSG with Tom Werner as chairman and Michael Gordon as president.

Brodie Wagenen Named Chief Operating Officer of Roc Nation Sports

 


Former Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen is joining Jay-Z's  Sports as the company's chief operating officer, Van Wagenen announced.


Van Wagenen worked with Roc Nation when he was the co-head of Creative Arts Agency's baseball division. Van Wagenen took the Mets job in October 2018 and left the agency.


"We believed in the vision Jay and [Juan Perez] had back in 2013," Van Wagenen told ESPN's Jeff Passan. "We've stayed in constant contact with them. It was a natural homecoming."
