How Did Eazy-E Really Die?

I believe it's time for a new investigation to start in the death of late rapper Easy-E. It has been know for years that the rapper died of AIDS, but new evidence is emerging that states otherwise.

Without Eazy-E, the rap world might look substantially different today. In fact, we may have never heard of rappers like Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. And the trajectory of ‘gangsta rap’ would have been entirely different.

Libretto - Headhunters Ft Theory Hazit

Watts transplant and Portland resident, Libretto has been making his mark on the Hip-Hop landscape since the early 2000's with his appearance on Lifesavas' classic "Spirit In Stone" LP (Quannum).

As a result of his standout verses on the Lifesavas' record and work on Onry Ozzborn's Alone LP, Libretto landed a deal with One Drop/BSI Records to release his debut single "Dirty Thangs" b/w "Alma Matter." The record was a testament to his vision of merging "pure soul, hip-hop, and urban resonance (Amazon)" and the buzz around the promising emcee continued to build to the point that LA's Dim Mak Records became interested, and released Libretto's next single entitled "Volume" ft. Lifesavas.

The song has gone on to be licensed numerous times, including being featured on Tony Hawk's Underground 2 video game. "Volume" was also one of the 14 songs that comprised Libretto's 2004 full length debut LP/CD, "Ill-Oet: The Last Element", also on Dim Mak Records. Upon release, the record was heralded as "some of the most original hip-hop to come out of the West Coast (Modern Fix)" by publications like XLR8R and URB. Libretto kept busy performing, dropping guest verses, and by putting out conceptual, album worthy mixtapes under the name Kokanut Brown, all the while prepping for his anticipated sophomore release, "The Captain".

Why Nelly And KRS-One Rap Beef Happened

In 2002, Nelly was one of hip-hop's biggest stars. His 2000 breakout debut, Country Grammar, sold nine million records.

Old school boom-bap rap pioneer, KRS-One, who had earned a reputation not just for his community-conscious lyrics but for never shying away from a lyrical showdown, called Nelly out.

KRS— who by that time had already proclaimed himself to be a keeper of classic hip-hop— voiced his discontent with Nelly on the track "Clear Em Out" from the compilation The Difference.

The song was aimed at pop-rap, and given his success as hip-hop's reigning top-seller at the time. Nelly took offense. He'd just dropped the track "#1" from the Training Day soundtrack, where he was defending his right to reign on top of the charts.

"He had to defend himself. He's like, 'My career probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for KRS-One,' that's what Nelly is on. My man got tired of critics and made a song '#1.' He wasn't specifically talking about nobody, but if the shoe fits, wear it."

KRS claimed he even sent an email to Nelly's camp, explaining there was no beef and he wasn't interested in getting into it with the St. Louis star. Nelly didn't get the memo, however, and in response, recorded a verse on the Freeway's "Roc the Mic" remix, on which he called out the veteran rhymer, letter by letter.

KRS responded by calling for an actual boycott of Nelly's album, Nellyville, which was scheduled to drop that June 2002, dramatically declaring himself a "sovereign power" in the process. Nelly challenged a sovereign power.

Needless to say, the whole boycott thing didn't exactly pan out the way KRS had hoped. June 25, 2002, rolled around, Nelly dropped Nellyville, and the entire world danced to the album's monster hit, "Hot in Herre." Nellyville ended up selling over 6 million albums and it stands as the 14th best-selling rap album of all time.

Mendeecees Freed

Star of +Love & Hip Hop +mendeecees harris has been freed from behind bars. As speculations swirled this season about the marital and paternity status of many cast members, viewers were perhaps most intrigued by one cast member whose voice was omnipresent but who went sight unseen during the entire season. Where was Mendeecees Harris? Why was he in prison? And when would he be released?

In January 2013 Mendeecees Harris was arrested and charged with narcotics conspiracy and money laundering. Specifically, Mr. Harris was charged with knowingly, willfully and unlawfully combining and conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine (Schedule I Substance) and 1 kilogram of heroin (Schedule II Substance). Such narcotics charges are punishable by a sentence of 10 years to life in prison, plus fines. While the laundering charges carry a maximum sentence of 20 years, plus fines.

In conjunction with the documents filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York, the Court seized specific assets from Mr. Harris and his co-conspirators, including such valuables as a Hublot “King Power” in 18kt rose gold ($45,000) and Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date Chronometer in 18kt yellow gold ($40,000). All in all, federal authorities seized over $406,950 in jewelry. Authorities also seized countless sums from various safe deposit boxes (e.g. $488,900 in a Sovereign Bank safe deposit box, $300,200 in a Bank of America safe deposit box and $122,000 in a Chase safe deposit box).

During the recent reunion episode of Love and Hip-Hop New York, one notable cast member was missing from the raucous and name calling РMendeecees Harris. You may remember him as the fianc̩e of the multihyphenate cast member, Yandy Smith. Smith, a talent manager, was actually one of the creators of Love and Hip-Hop New York, in conjunction with her former boss, Mona Scott-Young.

Young Thug Named The Real Life Gangstalicious

Young Thug’s sexual orientation has been one of fascination to both his fans and detractors for quite some time. Thug, born Jeffrey Williams, habitually, and with a supreme sense of I-don’t-give-a-f**kness, indulges in behavior that many in the hip-hop community have seen fit to deem “sus.” For example, he has a fondness for calling his closest friends “hubby,” and also recently shared that around 90 percent of his wardrobe is comprised of women’s clothing. Of course none of these things are indicative of Thug’s sexuality or gender identity, and by his own admission, there should be no question that he identifies as a heterosexual male. Nevertheless, his gratuitous displays of affection towards his male friends, and unfettered love of blouses and skinny jeans, have managed to generate substantial dispute.

Last week, producers London on da Track and Beatmonster Marc, who are affiliates of Thug, added fuel to the fire when they suddenly found themselves embroiled in a gay porn scandal. During a studio session that allegedly included Thug and rappers Kid Ink and Tyga, Marc posted an Instagram video intended to showcase the crew hard at work. The innocent recording quickly attracted the biting commentary of idle twitter fingers when a few keen eyes noticed what appeared to be a bit of male-on-male action taking place on an oversized television screen.

The conclusion many jumped to was that the group had been participating in some sort of group Netflix and chill scenario that had somehow turned 50 shades of homoerotic. Marc quickly refuted the claims, stating they had simply been watching Game of Thrones, which to be fair, has been known to feature its fair share of same-sex loving.

However, given the curiosity surrounding Young Thug’s sexuality, some took the incident as confirmation that Thug was indeed hiding his true preferences. Even if he is, that is of course his right and prerogative. However, that is only one possibility. Another is that Young Thug is simply so comfortable being Young Thug that heteronormative gender distinctions mean nothing to him.
It all combines to make Young Thug something of an anomaly to many. In the same way Riley was forced to reevaluate his perceptions of masculinity and its role in hip-hop, those who come into contact with Young Thug often subconsciously or consciously do the same. With each new outfit or Instagram post, Thug manages to incite debate around what is acceptable as a man, and as a hip-hop artist; he’s also unintentionally (or intentionally) made people question what these supposed acceptable patterns of behavior even have to do with an artist’s ability to make music (nothing, really). And despite, or maybe because of his non-conformist attitude, Thug is successful.

Seeing Thug blur and at times flat out erase the lines of what many perceive as appropriate masculine behavior, and in turn seeing the confusion it causes, is like watching an episode of the The Boondocks play out in reality. But instead of desperately clinging to the status quo in order hide a secret like Gangstalicious, Thug gleefully flouts the status quo. The outcome is still the same in that both the ficitional Gangstalicious and the very real Young Thug cause people to question pre-conceieved notions about gender and sexuality.

Hip-Hop Mixtape Site Being Sued

A number of the largest record labels have sued Spinrilla, a popular hip-hop mixtape website and app. Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Bros. Records and Universal Music Group accuse Spinrilla’s operators of copyright infringement and claim damages that could reach millions of dollars.

Mixtapes have been part of the hip-hop culture for years, and one of such most popular online services today is Spinrilla. It allows users to stream and download tracks from its site or mobile app and accounts for hundreds of thousands of monthly users. The service got sued by the music labels, which claim that Spinrilla facilitates copyright infringement, allegedly offering over 21,000 tracks of music artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West.

The plaintiffs estimated that the Spinrilla Android app had been downloaded and installed several million times and was among the most popular music apps offered on the Google Play store. However, Spinrilla is not just another pirate website: the service was incorporated in the US, earns money through advertising and recently partnered with AOL.

At the same time, the RIAA believes that Spinrilla has crossed a line by offering copyrighted music without permission and hopes that the record labels will be compensated through the lawsuit and that an injunction will take Spinrilla offline. The copyright holders point out that consumers have access to millions of music tracks from innovative legitimate platforms and services that pay creators, and Spinrilla’s way of business has no place in today’s music marketplace.

What Songs Will Last A Lifetime To You?

Whether you listen to rap, dance, hip-hop, techno, country, jazz, rock-n-roll, or pop music, the Wrap-Up Magazine would like to know, what song last a lifetime to you?

Nielsen Music, the industry-standard information and sales tracking sector, released a mid-year report highlighting 2020's current most popular genre. Stats reveal hip-hop as America's favorite and most influential genre, so far.

If you’re a songwriter, I would think that longevity is something you strive for when writing a tune. You want your music to live on, especially if your career doesn’t. We love the nineties. The nineties gave us grunge and gangster rap as well as (unfortunately) a cringeworthy combination of the two.

Additionally, the 1990s gave us Nirvana, Beyonce, Oasis, Pearl Jam, Beck, The Fugees, Snoop Dogg, Green Day, and Smashing Pumpkins. The following decade is when pop truly took over, followed closely behind by rap. It’s when rock started to fade a bit despite stellar offerings from Kings of Leon and Green Day.

Name Your Favorite Track From Wu-Tang Clan

Do you have a favorite track from Wu-Tang Clan? If so, what is it?

Wu-Tang Clan is an American hip hop group and collective formed in the New York City borough of Staten Island in 1992, originally composed of rapper-producer RZA and rappers GZA, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God and Masta Killa.

Many say that the best rapper in Wu is easily Ghostface Killah, yeah Method Man had a great voice but he has 1 great solo project, ODB is one of a kind but to say that he is the best rapper in the group isn't true, he definitely had the most presence.
