RZA and GZA of Wu-Tang Talk 'The Game Of Life'

For as long as the two leaders of the Wu-Tang Clan have known each other, it still shocks GZA that he never played chess with RZA as a kid.

The pair are busy practicing this week for their Twitch debut on Saturday, where they will play and compete in a chess tournament hosted by Chess.com and Hennessy. It’s to benefit Black, Latinx and Asian small businesses struggling with the pandemic. GZA says he still remembers vividly to this day when his cousin taught his 9-year-old self how to play chess.

“I guess I remember it well because he had a black and red checkerboard, but the pieces were like clear plastic neon,” GZA tells The Washington Post in a video interview, who said he never forgot the lesson. “And they were weird colored, and they were caked in green. And he showed me the names of the pieces and how they moved.”

In 2006, he starred in the reality television series DMX: Soul of a Man, which was primarily aired on the BET cable television network.

I enjoyed the movie Belly myself. I felt it was a great inspiration to the streets of America today.

Russell Simmons Selling Homes

Hip-Hop mogul Russell Simmons has listed his $8.25 million Los Angeles home for sale amid mounting sexual assault accusations. In addition to his home, Simmons is reportedly unloading his yoga studio in LA and a $9.92 million penthouse in New York City's Financial District.

Sources say that Simmons is spending quite a bit of time in Bali amid the allegations. Bali, a province of Indonesia, has no extradition treaty with America which some are speculating is Simmons reasoning for being there. However, a spokesperson for Simmons stated that he remains US-based and that he is merely traveling more.

"Russell divested himself of his active U.S. business interests last year to focus on his spiritual practice and serving his community, [...] As part of that journey, Russell has traveled to many spiritual destinations around the world but continues to retain active family presence and residence in the U.S."

At the moment, more than a dozen women have come forward accusing the rap mogul of sexual misconduct and assault that dates back to the early 1980s. After the initial accusers came forward, Simmons stepped down from his posts at All Def Digital, Def Pictures, and his yoga lifestyle brand, Tantris.

In his resignation statement, Simmons said his companies would be run by a diverse group of culture-moving executives and that he would take his time away to commit himself to “personal growth, spiritual learning and above all to listening.”

P. Diddy, R. Kelly - Satisfy You #Throwback

"Satisfy You", released on October 13, 1999, is a number-one R&B single by American hip-hop artist and producer Puff Daddy and features vocals by American R&B singer-songwriter R. Kelly on the hook. The song spent six weeks at number one on the U.S. R&B chart and peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three weeks behind "Smooth" by Santana featuring Rob Thomas.

The song was co-written by both Combs and R. Kelly, with additional writing by R&B singer Kelly Price, who performs backing vocals. The song's beat and bassline is taken from "I Got 5 on It" by Luniz, which itself interpolates Club Nouveau's "Why You Treat Me So Bad" among others. In contrast to the original song's subject matter, which is about marijuana.

Lil Wayne Shares His Top Five Rappers

Lil Wayne, whose list is quite a doozy, containing both the expected picks and some left-field surprises that actually make sense when you consider his own unique approach to the art of rap. Wayne gave his answer in a special edition of What’s Wright? With Nick Wright, a podcast version of the Fox Sports personality’s popular show.

Almost as well known for his affinity for hip-hop as Wayne is for his sports referencing raps, Wright offers his own list (a pretty humdrum collection including the usual picks: Jay-Z, Tupac, Wayne himself, Kanye West, and T.I.), which Wayne says he respects. Then Wayne starts off his own list with a pick that far too few people include for my taste, Missy Elliott. Vindication!

George Clinton Talks Donald Trump

CNN caught up with funk legend George Clinton during a recent show at BB King Blues Club in New York City, and picked his brain about everything from his legacy with Parliament and Funkadelic, to his take on Donald Trump's presidency.

The 75-year-old "godfather of funk" recalled the impact P-Funk made on the world but was sure to avoid pivoting from a time capsule, as he spoke in the present, saying, "We're here. We ain't going nowhere. We are a movement," in spite of the group's half a century long history in the music business. It is an assertion that Parliament fans can expound upon, beyond the fact that the band continues to perform in its present incarnation. True fans of hip-hop would concur, in having heard samples from Clinton's past woven into some of the genre's most prolific songs, whether they knew what they were listening to at the moment or not.

It is in bringing the party together, regardless of culture or creed that Clinton's music is often cited for, and he touched on how they bore the intention to convey that message with the classic "One Nation," saying, "That's the holy grail of the funk. It's ... our anthem and that binding force." And it is Clinton's absolute faith that the music actually facilitates unity, that prompts him to direct anyone searching for answers right back to the funk, as was the case when the CNN reporter inquired about whether he had any thoughts on Donald Trump's first 100 days in office.

"Ain't no funk in the Trump," said Clinton. "You can't be that against everything and everybody and be funky -- that's hard to do. He needs to go to a good funk concert a few times. He'd probably change his mind about a lot of things. I'm going to send him a copy of 'One Nation Under a Groove' -- maybe that'll help."

What Would A Battle Between DMX And Jay-Z Be Like?

Before DMX and Jay Z became international rap titans, they competed in a classic hip-hop war. Even with all that feuding in the past, Hov and X have collaborated on a bunch of songs, including "It's Murda" and "Blackout." They even almost formed a group with Ja Rule.

In 1999, Jay Z and DMX embarked (and majorly cashed in) on the Hard Knock Life Tour. Although Jay Z’s album gave the tour its name, the lineup was a joint headliner of the Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder and DMX.

Captured in the documentary film Backstage, Jay Z and DMX had vastly different demeanors on wax, on stage, and as celebrities. While both were pillars of Rap-made-right and suddenly sex symbols, they only overlapped in skill and love of the art.
