51-Year Sentence To Lady Who Was Sold As A Sex Slave
I don't believe this ruling was fair by any means. Some type of appeal should be taking place for this young lady who deserves lesser time for her crime.
Cyntoia Brown was 16 and a victim of sex trafficking when she was arrested for killing the man who allegedly solicited her for sex, Johnny Allen. In her defense, she says she believed he was reaching for his gun to kill her. However, Tennessee’s Supreme Court clarified an earlier ruling that she must remain in prison for 51 years before she is eligible for release.
Source
The state Supreme Court’s response comes after a lawsuit was filed claiming Brown’s life sentence is unconstitutional based on a previous Supreme Court ruling that said sentencing a minor to a mandatory life sentence was against the Constitution. Only 20 states and the District of Columbia have banned life without parole for minors. Tennessee is not one of those states; there, people convicted of first-degree murder can only be released from prison after serving at least 51 years of their 60-year sentence. A U.S. District Court in Tennessee noted that her sentence was different because she received a “life sentence, not a sentence of life without the possibility of parole.”
The Women’s March, Kim Kardashian West, Rihanna, and LeBron James have all publicly supported Brown’s release, funded legal support, and used her case to shed light on a larger need for prison reform and the systematic racism ingrained in our justice system. “The system has failed. It’s heartbreaking to see a young girl sex trafficked then when she has the courage to fight back is jailed for life! We have to do better & do what’s right. I’ve called my attorneys yesterday to see what can be done to fix this,” Kardashian tweeted.
In 2004, Brown was forced into prostitution by a pimp known as “Cut Throat” who she believed was her boyfriend. According to court documents, Allen allegedly brought Brown to his home and paid her to have sex with him. She was under the state’s age of consent at the time. In her testimony, Brown said that Allen showed her multiple guns in his home. When she believed that he was reaching under his bed to grab a gun and shoot her, she grabbed a gun out of her purse and shot him. She was tried as an adult and convicted of first-degree premeditated murder, first-degree felony murder, and especially aggravated robbery. Brown has already served 14 years in prison.
In response to the court’s decision, the Women’s March tweeted in support of Brown and other sex trafficking victims, adding that the next Women’s March on January 19, 2019 is for them as well. The organization asked their supporters to contact Tennessee’s governor, Bill Haslam, to demand Brown’s release. “Gov. Haslam has the power to #FreeCyntoia. Every day she remains in prison, he is actively choosing not to,” they tweeted.

Taylor Swift Makes Generous Donation
Taylor Swift donated $113,000 to an LGBTQ organization called the Tennessee Equality Project (TEP) on Monday, April 8, and did it in classic Swift style — with a handwritten note.
The foundation’s executive director, Chris Sanders, took to Facebook to share news of the 29-year-old “Delicate” songstress’ generous contribution alongside a message of thanks.
“Dear Chris, I’m writing you to say that I’m so inspired by the work you do, specifically in organizing the recent petition of Tennessee faith leaders standing up against the ‘slate of hate’ in our state legislature,” Swift began her letter pictured in the post. “Please convey my heartfelt thanks to them and accept this donation to support the work you and these leaders are doing.”
Sanders captioned the post: “Taylor Swift has been a long-time ally to the LGBTQ community. She sees our struggle in Tennessee and continues to add her voice with so many good people, including religious leaders, who are speaking out for love in the face of fear. Tennessee Equality Project is honored and grateful to reveal Taylor Swift has made a donation of $113,000 to support our efforts at this critical moment.”

Justin Timberlake And Taylor Swift Calls For Removal Of Confederate Statues
Justin Timberlake is joining a growing list of celebrities calling on their hometowns to remove Confederate monuments and memorabilia amid national anti-racism protests.
The "Mirrors" singer, 39, wrote on Instagram Monday that his home state of Tennessee "happens to be the home of many many confederate monuments."
"If we plan to move forward, these monuments must come down," Justin Timberlake wrote. "But let’s remember: Removing these statues does not erase our country’s vile history of oppression — removing them is a symbol of respect for Black people in America and it’s a step towards progress and actual equality for all."

Whats Your Favorite Taylor Swift Song?
Taylor Swift has set the tone by being apart of two awards at the VMAs, but i'm sure fans have way more to say than just that.
She is known for narrative songs about her personal life, which have received widespread media coverage. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Swift moved to Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 14 to pursue a career in country music.
Taylor Swift currently has an estimated net worth of $360 million, which has grown due to her music, merchandise, and endorsements. The superstar's new album has plenty that will please her fans as well as songs for those who are new to her music.
With all that's going on in her lifestyle and musical career, the Wrap-Up Magazine would like to know "Whats Your Favorite Song" from the female artist. Taylor Swift has released seven studio albums, five extended plays (EP), one live album, one compilation album, four video albums, 52 singles (including three as a featured artist), 16 promotional singles, and 44 music videos.
Members of the Wrap-Up Magazine chose "Blank Space" as there most liked track from Taylor Swift.
The lyrics of the song deal in a satirical way with the press' obsession with Taylor Swift's romantic relationships. According to Swift, she wrote the song in response to the media's perception of her as a serial dater who writes songs as a way to achieve some sort of “emotional revenge” on her former boyfriends.

Will Food Stamps Get A Ban On Junk Food?
Now, governors in Maine, Tennessee, and Arkansas are looking to get the Trump Administration on board with the potential restriction of food stamp purchases. The Secretary of Agriculture under the Trump Administration has already given support for restructuring SNAP benefits for 44 million recipients.
Not everyone is in support of the potential regulation, as an executive director of the Cumberland County Food Security Council in Maine has spoken out against his governor's idea.
The director said, "It seems very contradictory to, on one hand, limit people's access to foods that have negative nutrition content and then to limit access to information to support them to make better choices about nutrition."
Update:
Texas bill would ban food stamp recipients from buying junk food, soda
House Bill 4364, filed by Texas state Rep. Briscoe Cain in March, would make food items such as candy and energy drinks ineligible to buy with food stamps.
The bill defines an energy drink as a beverage containing at least 65 milligrams of caffeine per eight fluid ounces and is advertised as "being specifically designed to provide metabolic stimulation or an increase to the consumer's mental or physical energy." Coffee or coffee-based beverages are not grouped in with this definition, according to the bill.
Sweetened beverages — meaning non-alcoholic drinks added with natural or artificial sweeteners such as soft drinks, fruits and vegetable juice and other flavored beverages — would also be included in the ban.

Taylor Swift can add a new honor to her overflowing cabinet of accolades: A new species of millipede from the Appalachian Mountains has been named after her, according to Phys.org.

The Nannaria swiftae — or vernacularly, the Swift Twisted-Claw Millipede — is one of 16 new species named by Virginia Tech scientists Derek Hennen, Jackson Means, and Paul Marek in a new paper published via ZooKeys. Hennen, the study’s lead author, is the avowed Swiftie who selected the name, noting on Twitter that he chose it for that specific millepede species because, so far, it’s only been found in Tennessee.

Within two weeks of her arrival, Osborne claims, Cheatham began watching her shower, making her cook him meals and forcing her to go on van rides. While in the upstairs TV room of the Birmingham Work Release Center, defendant Cheatham forcefully attempted to take off plaintiff’s pants with one hand and had a condom in the other hand.
