The$800 million Bajan beauty donated millions of dollars to various charities, including coronavirus relief efforts, and to help abuse victims in L.A. and the needy in New York City. Will Kanye West Surpass Jay-Z?

For the better part of hip-hop’s existence, it was solely considered a genre of music. We now recognize the larger cultural movement surrounding the New York-bred art form as a leading force driving growth in fashion, entertainment, food and beverage, and technology. As a result, the top 10 highest earners of 2019 on Forbes’ annual list of hip-hop’s richest account for a staggering $633,500,000 in combined earnings. And for the first time in his career, Kanye West ($150 million) has outpaced the rest of his competitors to take the top spot — leapfrogging JAY-Z by $69 million.

It was certainly a banner year for West, especially considering he claimed to be $56 million in debt just over three years ago. While earning the top spot is certainly noteworthy, his income jumped dramatically between 2018 and 2019, accounting for a net increase of $122,500,000. Although the entire industry had a great year — with the top 20 acts’ revenue increasing by 33 percent since 2018 — the huge financial increase poses an interesting question: with an album on the way, YEEZY accounting for $1.5 billion in annual sales, and a track record of exploring radical projects, will Kanye West be joining JAY-Z in the billionaire’s club?

DMX or Jay-Z

DMX doubles down on wanting to go against JAY-Z in a Verzuz battle. “It's a celebration. We're celebrating music,” DMX said.

In the late '90s, Jay-Z and DMX were Def Jam's most successful stars. The friendly rivalry includes several rap battles between the legendary MCs, including their Backstage Freestyle match in 2000. In 1999, they also created the infamous supergroup Murder Inc, which starred both rappers and Ja Rule.

Before DMX and Jay Z became international rap titans, they competed in a classic hip-hop war. Their Bronx battle in the early '90s is the stuff of legends and it's also what sparked their ongoing beef, according to Irv Gotti.

Jay-Z Net Worth Is $1 Billion In 2020

Jay-Z’s fortune holds flat at $1 billion nearly a year after Forbes first crowned him hip-hop’s first billionaire. Jay-Z’s latest banner year of earnings ($81 million in 2019, good for No. 20 on our Celebrity 100) offset more recent declines across the market, helping to keep him on our list of Billionaires. And though the coronavirus has impacted the value of his holdings from ride-sharing to real estate, many of Jay-Z’s core assets are in areas well-positioned to weather the downturn.
