How Eminem Inherited Beef With Ja Rule

 

Unlike some of Eminem’s other feuds, he didn’t poke fun at or diss Ja Rule in a track first. The beef was initially between Ja and 50 Cent, however, the two rap giants can’t even agree on how it began.

Ricky Harris Dies

Ricky Harris, a comedian known for both his racy stand-up act and his appearances in family-friendly fare such as the TV series “Everybody Hates Chris,” died Monday, his manager said. He was 54.

The cause was not immediately known. But Harris’ manager, Cindy Ambers of Art/Work Entertainment, said Harris had suffered a heart attack two years ago.

Fellow performers posted condolences on social media, including comedians Sinbad and Cedric the Entertainer — the latter of whom Tweeted: “Devastated!!! #RIP to the One and Only #RickyHarris.”

Harris, the son of a preacher, was raised in Long Beach. He made a name for himself as a performer on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam” in the 1990s with a pop culture-inflected routine that touched on subjects such as horror movie sound effects and movie sex.

He made his acting debut in the 1993 drama “Poetic Justice,” which starred Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur. Two years later he appeared in “Heat,” a heist film directed by Michael Mann.

Harris appeared on TV series such as “Moesha” and Chris Rock’s “Everybody Hates Chris,” where he played the charming neighborhood ne’er-do-well, Malvo. Other recent appearances included roles on the 2015 dramedy “Dope” and “The Tracy Morgan Show.”

Harris was also known for doing raunchy skits on the albums of rapper Snoop Dogg, a childhood friend from Long Beach. (The pair sang in their church choir together.)

Snoop Dogg posted a short, mournful video to Instagram calling the actor “my big brother, my homeboy” and a “Long Beach original” — saying that he was “on his way to heaven now.”

Harris is survived by his mother, his ex-wife and two daughters.

Jay-Z to Coproduce two Projects for Netflix

 

JAY-Z and "The Harder They Fall" director Jeymes Samuel are teaming up again! This time, it's for Netflix's adaptation of the comic-book series "Irredeemable" and its spinoff, "Incorruptible." While the release date hasn't been revealed yet, we do know that Samuel is set to direct the upcoming films and JAY-Z will coproduce both projects. Meanwhile, Keith Powers, who's also known for his work in 2020's "Soul" and the upcoming "Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse," is handling the scripts.

50 Cent Gets New Late Night Show

BET is bringing a late night show to fans of sketch comedy, and 50 Cent will be its producer, host, and namesake.

50 first announced the coming of 50 Central through a vague Instagram post last week. On Sunday, April 30, followers got a broader insight into what the production might look like, with him posting a teaser in which he touts it as "a platform that allows us to get all those hidden talents out in the open." In the caption of the post 50 makes mention of inviting some of the trendy content makers and breakers around social media on for a chance at fame.

"Expect the unexpected. It's me having freedom. That's a different type of comedy, it's a little more edgier than the things you've seen in the past, and BET at night, they're going to let me to do what I've gotta do," he says.

BET has been on a hot streak so far as news of the various new productions viewers can expect to see coming to fruition over the next year or two, goes. Only days ago the network announced that it will be following up on the success of The New Edition Story with a drama series based on the life of Bobby Brown, and a documentary on Death Row Records. 50 has been no slouch himself, continuing to branch off of his Starz network Power fame with new deals, including his agreement with Sony to produce two new crime drama series' [Oath and RPN] for its Crackle streaming platform.

Leah Remini New Reality Show

+Leah Remini has a new reality t.v. show on +TLC. According to The Wrap, the network has ordered 12 thirty minute episodes from the same production company responsible for the hit Duck Dynasty. The as yet untitled show will follow Leah and her husband of ten years, and the couple's nine-year-old daughter. Also in the mix will be Leah's mother and step-father, sister and brother-in-law, and her housekeeper, nanny, and personal assistant.

TLC executive shares, “Leah is a no-nonsense, hard-working, relatable mom, wife, daughter, and sister. Her sharp humor and unfiltered family are a perfect match for the network,” adding, “This series continues our focus on creating compelling series about remarkable families, using heart and humor to anchor it to the TLC brand."

Leah starred in King of Queens which seems to live forever in syndication, competed on Dancing with the Stars, and she currently has a recurring role in TV Land's The Exes. She also made me extremely jealous in her baby doll dresses and biker shorts when she was romancing Zack Morris on Saved By the Bell.
