New Memoir Reveals Prince ‘Cheated’ Bassist Out Of Millions

For Mark Brown, the head games began with a cold call from Prince in 1981. And they ended, six years later, with the bassist — rechristened BrownMark, by Prince — confident that the rock star had derailed him out of millions in songwriting royalties.

As related in BrownMark’s new memoir, “My Life in the Purple Kingdom” (University of Minnesota Press), playing with Prince was the best of times and the worst of times — often at the same time. Like when he was cast in the movie musical “Purple Rain.”

“I took drama classes, joined SAG and acted in the movie,” Brown, 58, told The Post. “Then all my scenes were cut. Prince came up with some lame excuse about having to make the movie shorter.”

Before the fast talk and subterfuge, there was that unexpected call. Brown, then 19, took it in the Minneapolis rec center where his funk band rehearsed. “The first thing that went through my mind was that it couldn’t be Prince,” Brown said. “It was surreal.”

Whats Your Favorite Van Halen Song?

Van Halen is an American rock band formed in Pasadena, California in 1972. Credited with "restoring hard rock to the forefront of the music scene."

When Van Halen released their self-titled debut album in 1978, fans hadn't heard a guitar hero with such singular style since Jimi Hendrix. Eddie Van Halen did things with his guitar that didn’t seem humanly possible – he could make it hum like a helicopter one minute and crush like a bulldozer the next.

With singer David Lee Roth at the mic, the group had a natural showman who wrapped 70 years’ worth of stage entertainment into one motor-mouthed fireball. Roth quit the band and was replaced by Sammy Hagar, a rock-music vet who gave the group some much needed melodic thrust and provided them with a series of hit records.

New #Documentary on Motley Crue

Mötley CrĂ¼e was formed on January 17, 1981, when bassist Nikki Sixx left the band London and began rehearsing with drummer Tommy Lee and vocalist/guitarist Greg Leon.

Even in the sex and drugs-crazed world of rock and roll, the stories about Mötley CrĂ¼e's Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars and Tommy Lee were so outrageous, we still talk about it today. For the hair metal band Motley Crue, 'The Dirt' was a fitting title for a collection of true stories and biographical film.

Hell bent on changing the musical landscape and acquiring fame, Los Angeles' Motley Crue became emblematic of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll”.

#NewMusic From Ozzy Osbourne 'Under The Graveyard'

Ozzy Osbourne new album isn't due until the top of 2020, but the rock icon has delivered a teaser of what's to come from the upcoming set with a new single called "Under The Graveyard." Just last week, Sharon Osbourne revealed that his upcoming album, which was completed sometime this summer, is due out at the top of year.

"Under The Graveyard" marks Ozzy's first new solo release in almost a decade. His last solo album, Scream, was released in 2010.

His recent health issues also proved to be a reason for it. "He felt literally worthless," she said. "He would watch different things on TV, and he was watching a documentary on a band, and they were in their tour bus traveling. He couldn't watch it. He was near to tears, and he goes, 'I miss my life. I want my life back.' It's been really hard on him. But he's getting there. He'll be back."

Name Your Favorite Metallica Song

The heavy metal rock band Metallica was one of the biggest selling acts in American history. Metallica defined the look and sound of 1980s heavy metal, just as Led Zeppelin had for hard rock.

East Coast metal merchant Jon Zazula pitched the band on an album deal with his indie label Megaforce Records and 1983 found them traveling to New York in a stolen U-Haul to record their first album.

Name Your Favorite Kiss Song

Rock N Roll is making a big splash on the Wrap-Up Magazine. This time Fans Favorite brings in the famous band Kiss into the category. KISS can easily be named one of rock's most influential bands.

More gold records than any American band. Kiss might be the Hottest Band In The Land™, but there's always more to learn from there fans. From their first days together, KISS supposedly created an image linked to Nazis, Satan, and blood. That image has become a marketing juggernaut and demonstrates why people are split when it comes to the KISS rock and roll legacy.

To some, KISS is known for their outrageous outfits, makeup, and antics - everything from Gene Simmons's tongue action to on-stage blood-spewing and fire-breathing - aspects which reach far beyond their music.

While the band hasn't had a hit since the late 1970s, they continue to sell merchandise and profit from their connections with the Prince of Darkness.

What is the truth when it comes to KISS and their hardcore rock and roll lifestyle? What do fans have to say about Kiss? Do you have a favorite song you have payed the most?

What's Your Favorite Prince Song?

Prince was a man bursting with music – a wildly prolific songwriter, a virtuoso on guitars, keyboards and drums. Prince was also a master architect of funk, rock, R&B and pop, even as his music defied genres.

A seven-time Grammy winner, Prince had Top 10 hits such as Little Red Corvette, When Doves Cry, Let’s Go Crazy, Kiss and The Most Beautiful Girl in the World; albums like Dirty Mind, 1999 and Sign O’ the Times were full-length statements.

Elsewhere in his catalogue were songs that addressed social issues and delved into mysticism and science fiction. He made himself a unifier of dualities – racial, sexual, musical, cultural – teasing at them in songs like Controversy and transcending them in his career.

Prince’s music had an immediate and lasting influence: among songwriters concocting come-ons, among producers working on dance grooves, among studio experimenters and stage performers.

Prince put way more work into creating the type of music he like than any other artist I know. "Purple Rain" was chosen as the Wrap-Up Magazine most loved song from Prince. It is the first to feature the billing of his band the Revolution, and is the soundtrack to the 1984 film of the same name.
