Jennifer Lopez Joins Latina Entrepreneurs

 


Jennifer Lopez's new partnership is providing Latina entrepreneurs with a $14 billion infusion in loan capital by 2030.


Lopez is teaming up with Grameen America, a New York City-based microfinance organization, to expand access to capital with the goal of reaching 600,000 Latina entrepreneurs, while also investing six million hours into financial education training for these women as well.

Prosecutors Want R. Kelly to Serve at Least 25 Years

 


R. Kelly was found guilty of racketeering, including acts of bribery and sexual exploitation of a child, and a separate charge of sex trafficking. Ahead of his sentencing on June 29, prosecutors are recommending that the embattled singer be sentenced to at least 25 years in prison.

Bon Jovi Former Bassist Dies


A founding member of the legendary US rock band Bon Jovi, former bassist Alec John Such, has died at the age of 70, the group announced.


Such played with them from 1983 to 1994, when they had such hits as You Give Love a Bad Name, Livin' on a Prayer and Bad Medicine.

Travis Scott Donates $1M To Black College Students

 


Travis Scott awarded $1 million in scholarships to 100 students at HBCUs that are slated to walk across the stage in 2022. Scott’s Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund will be donating $10K to each student who finishes off their scholastic career with at least a 3.5 GPA. 


Scott’s donations went to 38 HBCU seniors from Alabama A&M University, Central State University, Jackson State University, Morehouse College, Texas Southern University, Grambling State University, Xavier University of Louisiana, and Prairie View A&M University.  The scholarships are a part of Scott’s Project HEAL, which was established in the wake of the Astroworld tragedy, which took ten lives and injured numerous others.

Ice Cube Signs Multi Picture Deal

 


Rapper Ice Cube made headlines for turning down millions of dollars for a film because of vaccination mandates. Now he has signed a multi picture deal with Luminosity Entertainment and the first film is called ‘Cube in My Head. 


The first of these films will be ‘Cube in My Head’, a comedy in which Ice Cube will play himself as a voice which appears in a down-on-his-luck white guy’s head after he’s in an accident. The surreal movie will start production later this year as a joint venture between Luminosity and Cube Vision, Ice Cube’s production company he co-founded with Matt Alvarez.

Quavo And Adidas Headphones Collaboration

 


Adidas Headphones and Grammy-nominated recording artist Quavo have collaborated to release the adidas Z.N.E. 01 ANC Quavo, which combines personalized design, music, and sonic innovation. 


The headphone cover, which was created in conjunction with Quavo, features handwritten lyrics in silver from the rapper’s unreleased album “Cheat Code,” while the earphones feature “Quavo Huncho” and “Cheat Code” in the same silver writing. This limited-edition release follows Quavo and adidas Headphones’ first collaboration to launch the adidas Z.N.E. 01 ANC, which has since been updated.

ESSENCE recently reported that Beyonce joined Rihanna and others as an investor in a French women’s apparel brand—now it has been reported that Jay-Z is backing premier beauty brand Madison Reed in an investment totaling $33 million, according to Bloomberg.

Jay-Z’s Firm Backs $33 Million Investment

 


Sandbridge Capital and Jay-Z’s venture capital business are investing $33 million in beauty brand Madison Reed.


Madison Reed will use the money to expand its hair color-bar presence, the firms said in their announcement Thursday. The company wants to add locations in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Chicago, hire 850 new colorists and expand its omnichannel offerings.

After over five years since his previous album, Kendrick Lamar will finally return May 13 with his much-anticipated and fifth studio album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

Scientist Names New Millipede After Taylor Swift

 


Taylor Swift can add a new honor to her overflowing cabinet of accolades: A new species of millipede from the Appalachian Mountains has been named after her, according to Phys.org.

The Nannaria swiftae — or vernacularly, the Swift Twisted-Claw Millipede — is one of 16 new species named by Virginia Tech scientists Derek Hennen, Jackson Means, and Paul Marek in a new paper published via ZooKeys. Hennen, the study’s lead author, is the avowed Swiftie who selected the name, noting on Twitter that he chose it for that specific millepede species because, so far, it’s only been found in Tennessee.

So strong was his relationship with Dr Dre they co-founded the hugely successful Beats Electronics (popularly known as Beats by Dre) business in 2006, a business that would dominate the sector and that the duo would eventually sell for $3bn to Apple in 2014. James was also a silent investors in Beats when it was sold to Apple.

Kelly, finally, has been found guilty—not of assault or rape, but of one count of racketeering and eight counts of violating the Mann Act, an anti-human-trafficking law. Federal prosecutors built a case against Kelly that emphasized the network of associates that helped him corral victims and move them across state lines for sex.
