President Obama Speech On Zimmerman Verdict

The White House released a statement on Sunday afternoon in response to the jury’s decision on George Zimmerman.

“The death of Trayvon Martin was a tragedy. Not just for his family, or for any one community, but for America. I know this case has elicited strong passions. And in the wake of the verdict, I know those passions may be running even higher. But we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken. I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son. And as we do, we should ask ourselves if we’re doing all we can to widen the circle of compassion and understanding in our own communities. We should ask ourselves if we’re doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence that claims too many lives across this country on a daily basis. We should ask ourselves, as individuals and as a society, how we can prevent future tragedies like this. As citizens, that’s a job for all of us. That’s the way to honor Trayvon Martin.”

The French schoolgirl, 15, was killed instantly in the horror attack on the paradise island of Reunion, off the coast of Madagascar, at 3 p.m. Monday.

Her terrified sister could only watch as the beast dragged her sibling down into the water, cut her torso in two and then swam off with part of her body. Gina Hoarau, head of public safety on the island, said the pair had been in an area of St. Paul bay where swimming was banned.

Man Kills Wife After Losing Sex Bet

A retired officer in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, faces second-degree murder charges in the August 2011 shooting death of his common-law wife, Lynn Kalmring. In court Thursday, Wiens testified that he shot Kalmring in the face in self-defense after a lost bet over a Nintendo Wii game escalated into a violent domestic dispute.

Wiens also said that he woke up to his wife hitting him, so he told her to pack her bags and leave. He said that he retrieved a handgun from his bedside table after Kalmring left the room because he was afraid of her. “I would say that she snapped,” Wiens testified in British Columbia Supreme Court. “She was not Lynn. She was crazy and she’d just assaulted me when I was sound asleep, and I was worried about what was coming next.”
