Maverick Carter, LeBron's longtime friend and business partner, also joined LeBron in the deal. Additionally, FSG is also taking a $750 million investment from RedBird Capital Partners.

LeBron already had a stake in the English soccer team Liverpool Football Club, whose majority owner is Fenway Sports Group. FSG is led by billionaire John Henry, and also includes the NESN cable channel, a marketing arm, a real estate firm, and Roush Fenway Racing. Henry, who is also the owner of the Boston Globe, will retain control of FSG with Tom Werner as chairman and Michael Gordon as president.

“Like so many other unarmed and innocent young, black men who find themselves guilty of being at the wrong place at the wrong time, DJ, too, lost his life for no good reason and with absolutely no good explanation — to this very day,” the letter states. “Justice, it appears, has been denied.”
