Kanye West Buys Spotify Music

Forbes declared Kanye West, a billionaire around this time last year, evaluating his worth at $1.3 billion. Kanye West disagreed and said the estimate was about $2 billion off. And he just proved to us all that he wasn’t lying. It’s official: As of today, the fashion and music mogul has just acquired the ever-popular audio streaming platform, Spotify.

Something big like this isn’t unpredictable for Kanye West, but people are curious about his intentions for buying out Spotify. Some are saying it’s just another outcome of the rivalry with long-time collaborator Jay-Z, who once held a majority stake in Tidal. I guess the Chicago native was really taking Watch The Throne literally… When will the Jay and Ye beef end?!

How a Hustler From Brooklyn Became a Billionaire

Jay-Z has long been known as one of the greatest rappers of all time, but now he’s known even more for his business acumen and massive wealth. Forbes recently named him Hip-Hop’s first billionaire, and with his diverse portfolio of investments, business ventures, and personal assets, it’s not hard to believe.

Despite the fact that it may seem like Jay-Z earned all of his wealth overnight, it was actually a long process that was decades in the making. Many people know the man, but few know the story.

Is Nas The Next Billionaire?

We now know that Nas is a smart guy. We always knew he was gonna do, but traditional standards suggested maybe he isn’t the smartest guy, because he didn’t finish traditional school institutions. We also know about “they” schools. We have been able to ascertain that NAS is about to be the next billionaire!

It’s been made public for quite some time now that Nas is an investor in many tech companies and has a vast portfolio. That portfolio has resulted in numerous deals, which have lined the rapper’s pockets. So, Nas will invest in a company and the company gets sold, kind of like Tidal or Verzuz, and then those that helped that company get a higher valuation get paid in full.

Jay-Z Sells Off One Bottle Of D’usse

Jay-Z’s auction of a rare bottle of his D’usse Cognac raked in mid-five figures during an auction with Sotheby’s.

The Roc Nation honcho sold off a luxury D’usse 1969 Anniversaire Limited Edition bottle for $52,500 to raise funds to support professional advancement and entrepreneurship workshops for students.

The decades-old cognac has a 24-karat gold foil around the neck, a diamond decanter design encased in a leather box. This particular bottle of D’usse was even rarer because it was engraved with Jay-Z’s signature.

Will Jack Dorsey Purchase Tidal?

Since purchasing Tidal for $56 million back in 2015, Jay-Z has made the streaming service a big contender in the music industry. But it could be that Jay-Z is considering handing-off a majority stake in the company. The rapper has reportedly been in talks to sell the site to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and his Square Inc. payment company.

As reported by Bloomberg, Square Inc. is looking to “diversify” their assets with the purchase of Tidal. The streaming service hasn’t publicly released their year-end figures since reporting they had 3 million paying customers back in 2016, but Jay-Z’s move to put his music back on Spotify has led some to question the longevity of the platform.

3 Investing Lessons From Jay-Z

In 2019, Shawn Corey Carter became hip-hop's first billionaire. Better known as Jay-Z, Mr. Carter didn't just make his money by rapping, although he's one of the industry's best-selling artists. Instead, he built a sprawling empire, including a music label, a sports management company, a streaming service, and a high-end sports bar.

With the Brooklyn-born rapper continuing to grow his net worth, there are certainly many investing lessons to learn, both from his business ventures as well as from his lyrics. Here are three of them.

Jay-Z Net Worth Is $1 Billion In 2020

Jay-Z’s fortune holds flat at $1 billion nearly a year after Forbes first crowned him hip-hop’s first billionaire. He boasts an expansive kingdom encompassing spirits (his Armand de Brignac champagne and D’Ussé cognac), art (including work by Jean-Michel Basquiat), real estate (homes in Los Angeles, the Hamptons, Tribeca) and stakes in companies from Uber to Robinhood.

Jay-Z’s latest banner year of earnings ($81 million in 2019, good for No. 20 on our Celebrity 100) offset more recent declines across the market, helping to keep him on our list of Billionaires. And though the coronavirus has impacted the value of his holdings from ride-sharing to real estate, many of Jay-Z’s core assets are in areas well-positioned to weather the downturn.

The Story of Eminem - Full Documentary

The new millennium brought forth a tidal shift in the music industry and one artist stood tallest in that transformation. Marshall Mathers, more commonly known as Eminem, swept the global music scene with his unique phrasing, infectious productions, and almost uncomfortably confessional lyrics.

The origins of Eminem's career as rap superstar began under the tutelage of Dr. Dre, who exposed his young protégé to the possibilities of music production, and the creation of a consistently provocative sonic experience which carries over the course of an entire album.

Rap icon Jay-Z brought his music discography back to the world’s largest streaming platform Spotify, leaving Tidal subscribers scratching their heads. The Insanely Lavish Lifestyle Of Beyoncé And Jay-Z

Beyoncé and Jay-Z are the closest thing there is to royalty in the U.S. While they didn't grow up with silver spoons, they've earned unparalleled success in their careers. Also: Updates on Jay-Z Lifestyle

In order to gain some context on Beyoncé and Jay-Z's super lavish lifestyle, it first helps to understand how much cash they have and how they keep it coming in. So just how much dough are we talking about? According to Forbes, the Carters are worth roughly $1.4 billion dollars as of mid 2019.

Beyoncé herself is only worth a mere $400 million compared to her husband's $1 billion, but that doesn't tell the full story. The Queen's income comes mostly from her album sales and concert earnings, which tend to be larger than her husband's. Conversely, Jay-Z earns his income mostly as a result of his investments, such as his significant ownership over the streaming company Tidal. Obviously, both celebs know their strengths and play to them well.

Also: More on Beyonce Lifestyle

So now you know what  means when she talks about her great-great grandchildren already being rich, as she did on the track "Boss" from her joint album with Jay, Everything Is Love.

Best Buy Shut Down Music Department

As of July 1st, Best Buy officially ceased sales of physical CDs at all stores nationwide. The electronics retail giant will no longer offer compact discs due to a major decrease in sales. According to ABC, sales decreased by 18.5% in 2017, which is a perfect example of the growing power of streaming services such as Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, among others, at work.

While CDs have begun to become a thing of the past throughout the last several years, vinyl copies of songs and albums will still remain on Best Buy shelves for at least a couple more years, as they continue to quench the nostalgia of music lovers. According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), vinyl sales were up 3% in 2016. The RIAA has also reported that in 2016, streaming alone generated more revenue in the United States music business than all other formats combined for the first time ever. Target is expected to be the second retail giant to begin selling fewer amounts of CDs in upcoming months.
