Jay-Z Ends Relationship With CAA

Who said the greatest of the rappers are selling CD's? Show money and investments has taken over the game. Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports is parting ways with talent agency CAA after having worked together for two years. The companies are going their separate ways as their two-year deal ends.

Roc Nation Sports and CAA Sports are two of the premier agencies and they will continue their high levels of client service to the world’s top athletes. The companies share several high-profile athletes, including the Seattle Mariners’ Robinson Cano, the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant and the New York Giants’ Victor Cruz.

Under the partnership, Roc Nation Sports — a division of Roc Nation — took the lead in getting marketing and sponsorship deals, while TPG-owned CAA handled the athletes’ player contracts. It’s unclear what led to the split, although sources suggested that Jay Z’s growing sports agency had become too competitive with CAA.

Fat Joe Signs With Roc Nation

The Terror Squad MC Fat Joe has joined JAY Z and Roc Nation. Fat Joe is the latest artist to sign with Roc Nation management, announced in a press release by Joe’s publicist on Wednesday (Jan. 18).

Christina Aguilera signs to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation

 

Founded by the rapper in 2008, the company currently boasts the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, Mariah Carey, Nick Jonas and Haim on its roster. As Variety reports, Aguilera has now been added to the label’s management division – though an official announcement is yet to be made.

Sources close to Roc Nation claim that the deal went through weeks ago, and the pop star is now listed on the company’s website. There’s currently no word on potential new material from the singer. It comes after Aguilera announced she’d parted ways with her manager of 20 years, Irving Azoff, last week. It’s unknown whether her team-up with Roc Nation Management came prior to or after their decision to split.

Leeds United Partners With Roc Nation

 

After 16 years outside England's top flight, the Elland Road club have agreed a deal with the leading music and sports agency, joining global music superstars Rihanna, Alicia Keys and DJ Khaled.

Roc Nation also has Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford on its roster.

The partnership was unveiled on Saturday in the form of a mural depicting homegrown Leeds and England midfielder Kalvin Phillips, alongside club legends Lucas Radebe and Albert Johanneson, in Leeds city centre.

Jay-Z has dropped news about next year’s Super Bowl halftime performance letting fans know that Roc Nation has teamed up with Pepsi and the NFL to bring Canadian singer The Weeknd to center stage of the most electrifying sporting experience in the country.

Set for Sunday, February 7, 2021, at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Fl, the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show, the Weeknd will sing and perform his top songs — and possibly bring on other big-name artists that will most likely be announced over the next few months.

“We all grow up watching the world’s biggest acts playing the Super Bowl and one can only dream of being in that position. I’m humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage this year,” The Weeknd said.

The rap mogul’s sports management company reportedly bought Brazilian soccer agency TFM, the home of several of the nation’s biggest talents, including Vinicius José Paixão de Oliveira Júnior, Gabriel Teodoro Martinelli and Endrick Felipe Moreira de Sousa.

Lil Wayne Signs To Roc Nation

Now, Wayne has taken to the stage to tell fans that he is now a member of Roc Nation. The rapper had a show at Slippery Rock University, and told fans he is joining the company, saying, "Is it cool if I just say it? It's the Roc. You know I'm a member of that team now." Once Wayne said that he threw up the Roc sign, then went back to performing for the packed out show.

While there is no way of knowing if the rapper is serious, only time will tell. This past January, Wayne took to the stage and teased fans about his alleged union with Roc Nation, saying "When you see me, it's YMROC." The rapper also teased the union at Tyler the Creator's Camp Flog Gnaw Festival last year.

Sannie Daara, in a tweet, indicated that the Ghanaian is represented by his family and has no intention of changing his representatives.

Blackstone is acquiring the Certified Collectibles Group in a transaction valuing the company at more than $500 million. Jay-Z's Roc Nation is also an investor in the transaction.

According to a report from VLadTV, Meek Mill and Roc Nation management have parted ways.

Square adds Jay-Z on Board of Directors

 

Square Inc. disclosed late Friday that it has officially added Shawn Carter as a board member of the credit-card payments processing company after closing a deal with the music-streaming service Tidal.

Jay-Z is co-founder and majority owner of entertainment company Roc Nation LLC, from which Square will sublease nearly 16,000 square feet of office space in New York City for $1.5 million a year, with an option to extend the sublease for two additional six-month terms, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. Jay-Z and Meek Mill have reportedly settled a lawsuit with a Philadelphia police officer who sued both of them along with Roc Nation after a depiction of her in the 2019 Amazon original doc ‘Free Meek.’

The documentary spoke on Meek’s incarceration, and how the rapper shifted his focus on calling out the injustices of the U.S. prison system and criminal justice system in Philadelphia. Crooked police officers in Philly were highlighted as well, but it was revealed that one of the officers—Saqueta Williams, was reportedly proven to be innocent of any wrongdoing as a cop. Williams ultimately sued Roc Nation, Jay-Z, and Meek for invasion of privacy and defamation as a result after she was labeled as a crooked police officer.

Jay-Z, Yo Gotti, And Team ROC File Lawsuit Over Conditions In Parchman Penitentiary

Jay-Z, Yo Gotti, and Team ROC have helmed legal action on behalf of 227 Mississippi inmates at Parchman Prison, Pitchfork can confirm via legal documents. The class action lawsuit has been brought against the new Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Nathan Burl Cain and prison healthcare provider Centurion. The complaint urges Cain and Centurion to address allegedly subpar living conditions at Parchman.

In addition to the lawsuit, Yo Gotti and Team ROC’s attorneys had several Parchman inmates submit sworn COVID-19 questionnaire forms detailing the lack of COVID-19 testing protocol at the prison. The returned questionnaires describe a lack of social distancing, PPE, and more at the penitentiary.

Roc Nation to Demand Justice for Alvin Cole

Jay-Z and Team Roc, the social justice arm of his Roc Nation entertainment company, are organizing a rally in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin on Thursday (Oct. 15) to demand justice for 17-year-old Alvin Cole.

Cole was killed on Feb. 2 by Wauwatosa police officer Joseph Mensah, less than three minutes after police began to chase him through the parking lot of Mayfair mall.

The rally is set to take place at 2:30 p.m. CT on Oct. 15 in Hart Park at 7300 Chestnut Street. Face masks are required to attend.

Cole’s family, State Rep. David Bowen, and members of Until Freedom will all participate in the rally, and call for Mensah to be terminated for his actions, and Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber be fired. The rally will additionally demand for the Wauwatosa Police Department to require body cameras.
