Sugar Ray Leonard Has Advice For McGregor

Lets get ready for the big boxing match! "Sugar" Ray Leonard thinks Conor McGregor is a very tough dude -- but when it comes to his fight with Floyd Mayweather he has one piece of advice ... "DUCK!" Watch the video below.

Bernard Hopkins Talks Mayweather vs McGregor

Are you sports fans ready for the Mayweather vs McGregor fight? Sports writers were warned against inquiring into boxing great Bernard Hopkins thoughts on the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight, when during a promotional event for the GGG v.s. Canelo Alvarez bout that will follow in September he refused to take a question on how he thinks the MMA vs. Boxing showdown will fare, serious.

"Conor who? People know who... listen, they got a choice. They can go ahead and listen to fake news, which is Floyd Mayweather versus, what's his name again?" Hopkins told Max Kellerman. "You've got a world class legend, icon to some people's mind fighting who? What's his name?"

Hopkins would then go on to talk up the September 16 showdown between GGG and Alvarez, which is only natural considering it will be a Golden Boy Promotions card. Hopkins being part of team Golden Boy also had all to do with his reaction to the Mayweather vs. McGregor affair, as Golden Boy head Oscar De La Hoya has been publicly bashing the event as a mockery over the past couple of months.

LeBron James Breaks Michael Jordan’s Record

Congrads Cleveland Cavs on Lebron Jame breaking another record. LeBron James scored 35 points and passed Michael Jordan to become the NBA's all-time playoff scoring leader as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Boston Celtics 135-102 on Thursday night to claim their third straight Eastern Conference title and a return trip to the NBA Finals.

Kyrie Irving added 24 points and Kevin Love finished with 15 for the Cavs, who never trailed and led by as many as 39 points in one of their most dominating wins of the series. The Cavs set an NBA record by winning their 13th consecutive series closeout opportunity.

Cleveland's 4-1 series' win gives it a 12-1 record this postseason and sets up a third consecutive matchup with Western Conference champion Golden State, the team it beat in the Finals last season to claim the franchise's first championship.

The Cavaliers basically conceded the East's top seed to the Celtics at the end of the regular season by opting to rest its starters in advance of the playoffs. But they displayed their superiority over the final two games to wrap up the series.

Tony Romo To Become New CBS Broadcaster

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is leaving football and going into broadcasting with CBS, league sources told ESPN. Romo has reached a verbal agreement with CBS to be its No. 1 color commentator — replacing former NFL quarterback Phil Simms — alongside play-by-play veteran Jim Nantz, sources confirmed to ESPN. He also had drawn interest from Fox and NBC. The Sports Business Journal first reported Romo’s agreement with CBS.

The Cowboys are planning to release him Tuesday. Dallas is expected to designate Romo as a post-June 1 release, softening the blow against the Cowboys’ cap this season. Instead of counting $24.7 million against the cap in 2017, Romo would count $10.7 million this year and $8.9 million in 2018. The Cowboys would gain $14 million in cap space this season, but it would not become available until June 2. The Cowboys will carry $19.6 million in dead money for the 2017 season, $8.9 million in 2018 and $3.2 million in 2019.

Romo’s decision came down to his health, sources close to the situation told ESPN. Romo, who turns 37 on April 21, believes his family and his health are paramount at this time in his life. He was limited to playing in just parts of five games over the past two seasons because of collarbone and back injuries, and he suffered a compression fracture in his back last August that led the way to Dak Prescott’s emergence.

Patrick Ewing Becomes New Head Coach Of Georgetown University

Georgetown University standout alumni Patrick Ewing is returning to his alma mater as their new head coach. Ewing, who has served as an NBA assistant for 15 years, helped Georgetown win their only national Championship title back in 1984. He will be replacing John Thompson III, who was dismissed two weeks ago.

Ewing sent out a statement following the news, which read, “My four years at Georgetown were the best of my life. Georgetown is my home and it is a great honor for me to return to my alma mater and serve as the next head coach. I have been preparing to be a head coach for many years and can't wait to return to the Hilltop."

Hornets coach Steve Clifford said some kind words about Ewing on Monday (April 3) after working with him for over a decade. He said, “I've had the privilege of working with him for 12 years with three organizations and I know the effort he has put into coaching. He has attacked this profession with the same mentality he had as a player, with hard work, dedication and a passion for the game of basketball. I'm thrilled that all of Patrick's hard work has paid off and he has earned the opportunity to be Georgetown's head coach. We wish him the best of luck in the next chapter of his coaching career." Floyd Mayweather Van Firebombed

While Floyd Mayweather was in the U.K., one of his TMT vans were torched. Mayweather was on his "Undefeated" tour, where the boxer is taking the time to talk to fans, as well as conduct meet-and-greets with them. While one of his stops on the "Undefeated" tour was taking place at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham this past Saturday night, arsonists allegedly took Molotov cocktails and threw them into the TMT van. The fire company that responded to the incident, Ladywood Fire Station noted that the arsonists threw the Molotov cocktails in the van after breaking one of the windows with a brick.

According to Mayweather's team, the van was custom made. The team was using the van while on their promo runs in the U.K., but the van doesn't actually belong to Mayweather. Investigations into the fire bombing are set to take place.

Magic Johnson New President Of Basketball Operations

The Los Angeles Lakers have shaken up their front office, promoting team legend Magic Johnson to president of basketball operations and firing general manager Mitch Kupchak and vice president of basketball operations Jim Buss.

“Today I took a series of actions I believe will return the Lakers to the heights Dr. Jerry Buss demanded and our fans rightly expect,” team governor Jeanie Buss said in a statement. “Effective immediately, Earvin Johnson will be in charge of all basketball operations and will report directly to me. Our search for a new General Manager to work with Earvin and Coach Luke Walton is well underway and we hope to announce a new General Manager in short order. Together, Earvin, Luke and our new General Manager will establish the foundation for the next generation of Los Angeles Lakers greatness.”

Jeanie Buss is Jim Buss’ sister, and both took on greater responsibility after the death of their father in February 2013.

Johnson was drafted by the Lakers in 1979 and won five titles with the team. He was hired as an adviser to the team in February. Johnson has held titles with the Lakers in the past, including honorary vice president, which he resigned from in June. He has also previously owned shares in the team, which he sold to Dr. Patrick Soon Shiong in 2011.

“It’s a dream come true to return to the Lakers as President of Basketball Operations working closely with Jeanie Buss and the Buss family,” Johnson said in the statement. “Since 1979, I’ve been a part of the Laker Nation and I’m passionate about this organization. I will do everything I can to build a winning culture on and off the court. We have a great coach in Luke Walton and good young players. We will work tirelessly to return our Los Angeles Lakers to NBA champions.”

James is currently sitting at number 8 on the all-time NBA scoring list. Shaquille O'Neal is next on the list at number 7, with 28,596 points.

LeBron James Signs New Deal

According to ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst, LeBron James has signed a 3-year, $100,000,000 contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. After winning a championship for the team, it seems that Cleveland is making it nearly impossible for LeBron to think about leaving the Cavs.

Despite seeing a small dip with his game earlier in the season, LeBron has remained one of the best players in the league. He averaged 29.7 points during the playoffs and helped the team come back from a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors during the heated games.

Talks between the sides centered around the addition of two more years to Westbrook’s current deal, which expires after the 2016-17 season. The new deal would call for Westbrook’s salary to jump from $17.8 million next season to the maximum $26.5 million. Shaquille O’Neal And Allen Iverson Nominated For The Hall of Fame

The larger-than-life 7-foot-1 big man and the ultra-quick 6-0 point guard lead the 10-member Class of 2016, which was announced Monday. Much like during their playing careers, there was no stopping Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson when it came to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

O’Neal won four NBA championships and an MVP award and is in the league’s top 10 in career scoring. Iverson won four scoring titles and was the league’s MVP in 2001, when his 48-point performance for the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 1 of the NBA Finals handed O’Neal’s Los Angeles Lakers their only loss of the most dominant postseason in NBA history.

Iverson and O’Neal will be enshrined along with Michigan State coach Tom Izzo, former Houston Rockets center Yao Ming, former WNBA star Sheryl Swoopes and Chicago Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf. Longtime NBA referee Darrell Garretson, coach John McLendon and former stars Zelmo Beaty and Cumberland Posey will be enshrined posthumously.

O’Neal is one of four players to win three Finals MVP awards, joining Michael Jordan (6), Tim Duncan (3) and Magic Johnson (3). He was one vote shy in 1999-2000 of becoming the first unanimous MVP in NBA history as Iverson received the only other first-place vote.

Izzo has reached seven Final Fours and earned 524 career victories since becoming the head coach at Michigan State in 1995. In 2000 he guided the Spartans to the NCAA national championship with an 89-76 win over Florida.

Ming, the No. 1 overall pick by the Rockets in 2002, didn’t have the numbers of some other great centers, but he bridged a path for the NBA to China. The third Chinese player in league history was an eight-time All-Star before injuries shortened his career, as he missed 159 out of a possible 164 games in the last two years in the NBA. Ming was a first-team all-rookie in the 2002-03 season. In his first game against O’Neal, he blocked his first three shot attempts in the first three minutes of the game.

Swoopes was the first player signed by the WNBA. She went on to win three MVP awards and four championships in the league, but it was her 47-point performance in leading Texas Tech to the 1993 NCAA championship that many think of first when talking about one of the greats of women’s basketball.

The 2016 NBA All-Star Lineup

Kobe Bryant top vote-getter for 18th and final All-Star Game. Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant is an All-Star for the 18th time, and Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is notably not among the West’s starting five.

Fans overwhelmingly chose Bryant to be an All-Star starter, voting for him almost 1.9 million times, the most among all players. Bryant will start alongside Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook, Thunder swingman Kevin Durant and San Antonio Spurs wing Kawhi Leonard.

“It’ll be a special All-Star because this is Kobe’s last run,” Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heatsaid.

Durant and Westbrook are All-Stars together for the fifth time, breaking a tie with Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp for most appearances by Thunder/SuperSonics teammates. Durant has scored more than 30 points in four straight All-Star Games, and Westbrook was MVP of the 2015 game.

Curry, the reigning NBA MVP, was second among fans with 1.6 million votes. Curry’s father, Dell, finished his career in Toronto, and the league’s leading scorer will make his third straight All-Star start there.

“It’s going to be a fun experience for both sides of my family,” Curry said in a video posted by the Warriors. “I lived there for three years, my wife is from there, she has a lot of family that still is up there that’s going to be able to celebrate with us. So I’m going to enjoy it and look forward to it.”

The Eastern Conference starters are Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James, Indiana Pacers forward Paul George, New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony, Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry and Wade. James was the top fan choice for the East team with 1.1 million votes.

Floyd Mayweather Stripped of WBO Title

Dan Rafael was the first to report on July 4 that the World Boxing Organization officially decided to take back its 147-pound belt from the undefeated Mayweather. Mayweather declined to pay the $200,000 sanctioning fee for the title by the deadline. Also, he decided against vacating the WBA and WBC junior middleweight titles, which was necessary since boxers are not permitted to hold world championships in multiple weight classes.

After his huge victory over Pacquiao, Mayweather initially expressed his desire to vacate the titles he won. Mayweather ultimately had a change of heart, which led to last week’s bout between Timothy Bradley and Jessie Vargas being fought with the interim WBO welterweight title on the line.

Floyd Mayweather Defeats Manny Pacquiao

Mayweather, already the highest-paid athlete in the world in recent years, is expected to earn an estimated $180 million and Pacquiao around $120 million. Mayweather turned in a vintage performance as he outboxed Manny Pacquiao in a brilliant display to win a unanimous decision in one of the biggest fights in boxing history before a sold-out and star-studded crowd of 16,507 on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Judge Dave Moretti scored the fight 118-110, and judges Glenn Feldman and Bert Clements both had it 116-112. ESPN.com also had it 116-112 for Mayweather, who remains undefeated at 48-0. The massively hyped fight, more than five years in the making, became a global event. While it was not the drama-filled battle many had hoped for, it was an impressive performance from Mayweather, the master boxer, who never allowed the more powerful Pacquiao to deliver any truly big punches as he pulled away in the second half of the fight.

There was so much on the line for the fighters, as Mayweather, already a five-division champion, added Pacquiao’s 147-pound world title to the two he already owned and left no doubt as to the identity of the No.1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

More significantly, Mayweather won the legacy fight, stamping himself as the best fighter of the era he and Pacquiao have shared and dominated. During their great runs, they both won numerous world titles and beat five common opponents, all likely Hall of Famers, in Oscar De La Hoya (already inducted), Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez and Shane Mosley.
