Shawn Marion Signs With Cavaliers

+Shawn Marion has just struck a deal with the +Cleveland Cavaliers. Free-agent forward Shawn Marion has committed to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to league sources. Sources told ESPN.com that Marion informed the Cavaliers this weekend that he intends to sign with them this month, despite the fact that Cleveland can only offer him a minimum deal.

The chance to play with LeBron James and immediately compete for a championship, sources said, clinched Marion’s decision to choose Cleveland in the face of a ramped-up pursuit by the Indiana Pacers. As ESPN.com reported earlier this week, Pacers president Larry Bird invited Marion to Indianapolis earlier this week for a face-to-face recruiting pitch over dinner, with Indiana in desperate need of veteran help on the wing after the season-ending compound leg fracture suffered by star swingman Paul George on Aug. 1

The Cavaliers have widely been considered to be the front-runners to sign Marion since it emerged that they’re poised to complete a trade for Minnesota’s Kevin Love later this month. Cleveland is restricted to offering Marion a minimum salary of $1.4 million this season after using all of its cap resources and exceptions elsewhere.

The Pacers confirmed this week that they’ve already been granted a $5.3 million disabled player exception by the league in the wake of George’s season-ending injury suffered on Team USA duty, so Indiana did have the means to outbid Cleveland. But the Pacers would stray into luxury tax territory if they spend more than $1.7 million of that exception, with Bird vowing at his news conference that Indiana — maintaining a longstanding team policy — remains unwilling to be a tax team.

Sources say that Marion had been telling teams for weeks that he hoped to wind up with a championship contender if he left the Dallas Mavericks in free agency. Marion spent the past five seasons with the Mavs and helped them win the first championship in franchise history in 2011 as a key role player who guarded players at four positions.

LeBron James Signs New Deal

According to ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst, LeBron James has signed a 3-year, $100,000,000 contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. After winning a championship for the team, it seems that Cleveland is making it nearly impossible for LeBron to think about leaving the Cavs.

Despite seeing a small dip with his game earlier in the season, LeBron has remained one of the best players in the league. He averaged 29.7 points during the playoffs and helped the team come back from a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors during the heated games.

Congrads to +LeBron James and the +Cleveland Cavaliers on the new signing.

LeBron James Breaks Michael Jordan’s Record

Congrads Cleveland Cavs on Lebron Jame breaking another record. LeBron James scored 35 points and passed Michael Jordan to become the NBA's all-time playoff scoring leader as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Boston Celtics 135-102 on Thursday night to claim their third straight Eastern Conference title and a return trip to the NBA Finals.

Kyrie Irving added 24 points and Kevin Love finished with 15 for the Cavs, who never trailed and led by as many as 39 points in one of their most dominating wins of the series. The Cavs set an NBA record by winning their 13th consecutive series closeout opportunity.

Cleveland's 4-1 series' win gives it a 12-1 record this postseason and sets up a third consecutive matchup with Western Conference champion Golden State, the team it beat in the Finals last season to claim the franchise's first championship.

The Cavaliers basically conceded the East's top seed to the Celtics at the end of the regular season by opting to rest its starters in advance of the playoffs. But they displayed their superiority over the final two games to wrap up the series.

Cavaliers Fire Mike Brown

The +Cleveland Cavaliers has just fired their coach +Mike Brown. Brown was fired for the second time in four years by owner Dan Gilbert, who last April brought back the only coach to get the Cavs to the NBA Finals but then dismissed him after the team failed to make the playoffs.

The Cavs went 33-49 under Brown, who had four years remaining on his contract. He was fired last year by the Los Angeles Lakers just five games into his second season. Brown was let go in 2010 after the Cavs failed to advance past the conference semifinals. At the time, it appeared Gilbert was making the move — and hiring Byron Scott as coach — to appease LeBron Jamesand keep him in Cleveland. James, though, decided to leave for Miami as a free agent.

The Cavs improved defensively under Brown, moving from last in the league in field goal percentage to 12th. But the offense was a continued work in progress and the Cavs didn’t make a late playoff push despite a favorable schedule down the stretch.

While the Cavs showed signs of progress with Brown, he was unable to get one of the league’s youngest teams to play consistently. There were also some personality conflicts between All-Star guard Kyrie Irving and backcourt mate Dion Waiters. Although the two claimed to get along, there was little harmony on the court.

Cleveland Cavaliers Owner Purchases The Robb Report

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has purchased the Robb Report, ending months of negotiations over the 38-year-old magazine for the ultra rich. The billionaire, who made the deal through his Rockbridge Growth Equity, is said to have paid around $60 million for a majority stake in one-magazine company CurtCo Robb Report.

The negotiations, which The Post first reported in May, dragged on in part because CurtCo CEO Bill Curtis wanted to run magazine for new owners. The deal will keep Curtis involved as a minority partner and his management team in place. Investment partners, including GE Capital, TD Bank and Western Presidio, have been bought out. “We have been nicely capitalized and our debt has been reduced to a small faction of what it was,” Curtis said in an e-mail to the Malibu, California.

LeBron James Becomes A Free Agent

LeBron James has alerted the Cleveland Cavaliers that he will opt out of the final year of his contract with the team and headline the 2019 list of NBA Free Agents. In doing so King James will leave $35.6 million on the table for the 2018-19 season.

ESPN reports the opt-out does not signify that LeBron’s time is over in Cleveland, however, it does provide a greater opportunity for the Los Angeles Lakers to acquire one of the greatest to touch a basketball. It has been oft-rumored throughout the course of the NBA Season that James has eyed a transition to Hollywood but his hometown team is able to offer the most money at five-year, $207.4 million. Other teams that have a chance between the Cavs and the LakeShow include the Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76ers.

Many believe the Lakers are planning a complete overhaul of their roster from last year and are looking to trade for San Antonio Spurs superstar Kawhi Leonard to pair with LeBron. It is believed that his presence on the roster would “clinch” signing the Cavs star. Also lingering in free agency is Paul George, who opted out of the last year of his deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder to explore his free agency options. It’s rumored the Lakers wish to add him to Leonard and James for a new big three.

NBA Free Agency officially opens Sunday at 12:01 EST and we will see how the dominoes fall. Other free agents this summer include Demarcus Cousins, Clint Capela, DeAndre Jordan, Chris Paul and more.

LeBron James Talks New Deal With Nike

The +Cleveland Cavaliers team member +LeBron James has just sing a big +SportScheck with +Nike for a lifetime. Nike has signed Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James to a lifetime deal in what one source familiar with the negotiations said is the largest single-athlete guarantee in company history.

“We can confirm that we have agreed to a lifetime relationship with LeBron that provides significant value to our business, brand and shareholders,” Nike said in a statement. “We have already built a strong LeBron business over the past 12 years, and we see the potential for this to continue to grow throughout his playing career and beyond.”

A company spokesperson would not say how much Nike paid. It is believed to be the first lifetime deal in the shoe and apparel company’s 44-year history.

“I’m very humble, man,” James said to reporters after Monday’s practice. “It’s been an unbelievable time for myself and my family, and I’m just grateful that Nike and [Nike founder] Phil Knight and everyone over there just believed in a skinny-old, skinny 18-year-old kid from Akron, Ohio, and I’m happy to be a part of such a great company.”

A source close to the deal told ESPN that it easily surpasses the 10-year, $300 million deal Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant signed with the world’s largest shoe and apparel brand last summer.

“LeBron and I have been in love and obsessed with Nike since we were kids,” Maverick Carter, James’ business partner, said Monday. “Having built a totally innovative global business with them has truly been a dream come true. We are so excited to be taking the business to an entirely new level. For LeBron, he’s thrilled to know he’s a Nike guy for life.”

James commented on his affinity for the brand, how important his first Nike deal was and what the new agreement means to him.

“It meant a lot to me even when I signed my first deal just to be with Nike, and it means even more that they’ve given me this,” James said. “It’s like I said, very humbling and grateful, and I’m going to continue to do my job and represent the brand the best way I can, like I know how. Hopefully, people see that.”

Carter will manage the deal, which was negotiated by Main Street Advisors’ Paul Wachter, who also negotiated the deal for John Henry to buy the Red Sox in 2002 and represented Beats By Dre in its $3 billion sale to Apple last May.

Although other companies have negotiated lifetime deals — Adidas has structured them with Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose and soccer great David Beckham, while Reebok has a lifetime deal with former Philadelphia 76ers point guard Allen Iverson — Nike has never announced a lifetime deal before.

50 Cent Talks Justin Bieber

"He's going through those phases growing up. It's like Michael Jackson issues," 50 told Sharon Osbourne and co-hosts Sheryl Underwood, Sarah Gilbert, Aisha Taylor and guest host Thomas Lennon. "Everybody gets a little tougher when I'm around." What 50 was alluding to was how much fun Bieber seemed to be having as he went about spraying champagne on the crowd.

Justin Bieber came up as a topic of conversation during Tuesday's episode of "The Talk" [August 2], and along with mention of the mega pop star came a comparison to the King of Pop. With 50 Cent stopping in as the show's guest, reference was made to Justin's behavior while attending a recent party hosted by the "Power" producer; behavior which Fif likened to that of MJ himself.

Bieber has resurfaced on Hip Hop's radar over the past week with him showing up Taylor Swift while face timing with Kanye West early Tuesday. The Instagram photo he posted of this time with Ye would draw 150k comments by the day's end.

Bieber's rock star attitude was scrutinized earlier in the year when he made it known that he would no longer sign autographs or take random selfies with fans in public. Those conditions would allegedly lead to his confrontation with a fan whose request for a signature he'd reject and would up exchanging blows with in Cleveland in early June.
