Drake Named Best Male Pop Artist 2018

A pop star, a rap star, just what category does we suppose to fit Drake in? Drake is king of Billboard’s 2018 year-end charts, as the superstar leads the year-end Top Artists ranking.

The 32-year-old rapper-singer is the first rap act to be the overall top artist of the year since 2005 and just the third rap artist to lead the category.

Billboard’s year-end music recaps are based on chart performance on Billboard’s charts dated Dec. 2, 2017, to Nov. 17, 2018. The year-end Top Artists category ranks the best-performing acts of the year based on activity on the Billboard 200 albums tally and the Billboard Hot 100 songs list, as well as streaming, social media and Billboard Boxscore data.

On the 2018 year-end Hot 100 Songs roundup, Drake rules with “God’s Plan,” which spent 11 weeks leading the weekly Hot 100 tally. It was the first of three Hot 100 chart-toppers, thus far, from his Scorpion album. Drake followed “God’s Plan” with the No. 1s “Nice for What” and “In My Feelings,” spending a combined 29 weeks at No. 1 -- breaking the record for the most weeks atop the list by an artist in a year.

LA Artist Sheldvn Drops The Anthem "What I Need" Produced by J Cruz

Sheldvn got his start in music when he formed an Alt-Rock band at 14 years old as the drummer and vocalist. They racked up nearly half a million Spotify streams before the band disbanded. Still focused and driven by music, Sheldvn moved from Northern California to Los Angeles in 2018 to start a solo career.

He quickly picked up production, engineering, different styles of singing, and multiple instruments. While still in the midst of finding his sound he released his first EP entitled "Dead!" with the help of established producer Cody Benjamin at the end of 2018. This garnered him a small but steadily growing fan base and over the next year he would find his own niche in what some would describe as Lo-fi R&B with some Trap elements. Before the end of 2019, he would drop his biggest release yet with the self-produced song "Close" featuring K-Pop artist LATE LEE and would go on to be a featured singer and writer himself on the hit song "Recognize" off LATE LEE's 12AM EP. The song made it on Spotify's second-largest K-Pop playlist.

What Songs Will Last A Lifetime To You?

Whether you listen to rap, dance, hip-hop, techno, country, jazz, rock-n-roll, or pop music, the Wrap-Up Magazine would like to know, what song last a lifetime to you?

Nielsen Music, the industry-standard information and sales tracking sector, released a mid-year report highlighting 2020's current most popular genre. Stats reveal hip-hop as America's favorite and most influential genre, so far.

If you’re a songwriter, I would think that longevity is something you strive for when writing a tune. You want your music to live on, especially if your career doesn’t. We love the nineties. The nineties gave us grunge and gangster rap as well as (unfortunately) a cringeworthy combination of the two.

Additionally, the 1990s gave us Nirvana, Beyonce, Oasis, Pearl Jam, Beck, The Fugees, Snoop Dogg, Green Day, and Smashing Pumpkins. The following decade is when pop truly took over, followed closely behind by rap. It’s when rock started to fade a bit despite stellar offerings from Kings of Leon and Green Day.

#MusicVideo by New Money - "Big Bubble Yum" @Funklordmusic

Robert Courtney AKA New Money was born and raised in Chicago, IL. He started doing music at about the age of 11. He was inspired when he heard Jay Z. That is when he fell in love with rap. His cousin and himself had rap battles against each other, doing songs by known artist and he always won. He had to work harder. While in High School he ended up having the privilege of meeting others like himself so they began to rap together and even did talent shows through high school. When he got a little older, decided to become a solo artist and started to focus more on writing his on material so it would be original songs.

Studio time came in and working with different producers. He loves old school rappers more. That’s because the old school rappers had real messages in their songs and they knew how to tell a story. Rappers like Future, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar he paid close attention to. NWA which is one of his favorite rap groups of all time because they were the hardcore rappers that stood up hard for what they believed in as black men in America. And of course Tupac was one of New Moneys favorite solo rapper of all time. He wanted his music to be influential like theirs. A song was hears that helped him to create "Big Bubble Yum".

Key Moments In Hip-Hop History

Hip hop is more than music; it’s a cultural movement that incorporates different elements of art. Before there was Lil Yachty, Young M.I.A., or YNW Melly, there was a world of hip hop artist who's name rain supreme even still today.

Back when music was real, artist had the opportunity to shine in their own distinctive way. Rap is one of the most distinctive features of hip-hop. Rappers use rhythm, lyrics, and vocal tone to express themselves. The best rappers are distinguished by their “flow” – the way the words run together without the performer getting tongue-tied.

Alessandro is a multi instrumentalist and easily connects with his fans making them feel part of his world, performing with guitar and piano on stage. What If Michael Jackson Was Alive, What Would You Want To Ask Him

What would you do or say if Michael Jackson was still alive today? If Michael Jackson was alive today, would he still be making music, and still be the king of pop?

At the time of his death, Jackson was still a huge draw, particularly in Europe. He was still an active performer, and his last album, Invincible, had been put out in 2001, eight years before he died. It was a huge seller around the world at the time.

And his health was not good-had he not died, he in all likelihood might have been too ill to continue to be an active touring, working musician. Touring and public appearances are a lot of work, and Jackson just wasn’t well. And as we now know, his This is It tour was controversial because the sponsors of that tour basically put pressure on Jackson to commit to a heavy schedule while knowing he wasn’t in very good health.

Sean Essary - Better at Being Lonely

Warm Synth Pop vibes meet heartbreaking lyrics on new single ‘Better at Being Lonely’ from new artist Sean Essary

BENTONVILLE, AR – A lot of great artists over the years have gotten their start from humble beginnings. Many of them, in fact, found their first big hits while collaborating with others at songwriting workshops or in songwriting sessions with other artists in the studio. Arkansas artist Sean Essary is on his way to joining those legends with his new hit single “Better at Being Lonely.”

It’s a song he wrote during a songwriting class he took earlier this year with the famous Ryan Tedder, front man for the band One Republic and one of the most sought-after producers in the music industry today. It’s a song that captures infectious melodies and grooves that compel listeners to move their bodies, but which is set against deeper lyrics that will make listeners think more deeply about their own lives.
