JAY-Z Ties With Quincy Jones for Most Grammy Nominations

 

JAY-Z has officially tied with Quincy Jones for the highest number of Grammy nominations, with each music icon receiving a total of 80 nods.

Hov’s 2021 noms come from three of Beyoncé‘s 2021 Grammy nominations. He’s credited as a songwriter for “Black Parade,” which is running for Song of the Year and Best R&B Song, and “Savage,” which is up for Best Rap Song. This marks the fourth consecutive year wherein the Brooklyn rapper has received a Grammy nomination, and he last won an award in 2019 for Best Urban Contemporary Album (now known as the Best Progressive R&B Album) for Everything Is Love with Beyoncé.

Beyonce's "Lemonade" Wins Album of the Decade

The Associated Press has named their Top 15 albums of the decade and Beyoncé’s 2016 opus Lemonade is number one. According to the international news agency’s music editor Mesfin Fekadu, the international global icon was riding the wave of success for much of the earlier part of the decade with numerous Grammy Awards.

Nas Drops "27 Summers" #Video Featuring DJ Khaled

 

Nas has released a new visual for his “27 Summers” track from his most recent, thirteenth studio album entitled King’s Disease. In the music video, we see the legendary Queens rapper dressed in a suit and fedora as he looks back on his rap career. Nas then goes to Miami to hit the golf course with DJ Khaled who pays homage to the rapper’s prolific career — it’s been 27 years since Nas released his iconic Illmatic album in 1994.

“27 Summers” is the latest visual following Nas’ collaborative videos with Five Foreign and A$AP on the track “Spicy” and “Replace Me” with Don Toliver, Big Sean, and Hit-Boy, trailing the release of his King’s Disease album in August.

Drake Named Best Male Pop Artist 2018

A pop star, a rap star, just what category does we suppose to fit Drake in? Drake is king of Billboard’s 2018 year-end charts, as the superstar leads the year-end Top Artists ranking.

The 32-year-old rapper-singer is the first rap act to be the overall top artist of the year since 2005 and just the third rap artist to lead the category.

Billboard’s year-end music recaps are based on chart performance on Billboard’s charts dated Dec. 2, 2017, to Nov. 17, 2018. The year-end Top Artists category ranks the best-performing acts of the year based on activity on the Billboard 200 albums tally and the Billboard Hot 100 songs list, as well as streaming, social media and Billboard Boxscore data.

On the 2018 year-end Hot 100 Songs roundup, Drake rules with “God’s Plan,” which spent 11 weeks leading the weekly Hot 100 tally. It was the first of three Hot 100 chart-toppers, thus far, from his Scorpion album. Drake followed “God’s Plan” with the No. 1s “Nice for What” and “In My Feelings,” spending a combined 29 weeks at No. 1 -- breaking the record for the most weeks atop the list by an artist in a year.

The pop star, 32, told The Associated Press for her new album she’s already held “tons of writing camps” — where songwriters are put into groups to create original tracks for artists. Now, she said she’s asked herself the questions: “What do I feel personally? What do I want to put out, and as an artist, how do I want to play it with my art? How do I want to interpret that?”

“How do I want to reimagine it because it’s been so structured before,” Rihanna continued in a recent interview. The multi-genre artist who has won Grammys in the R&B, dance and rap categories added: “You do pop, you did this genre, you do that, you do radio, but now it’s just like, what makes me happy? I just want to have fun with music. Everything is so heavy. The world that we live in is a lot. It’s overwhelming every single day. And with the music, I’m using that as my outlet.”

Sean Diddy Combs Retires After 1 More Album

(The Wrap-Up Magazine) The Bad Boy of hip hop is retiring from the rap game. The Bad Boys record mogul, who covers the June issue of Cigar Aficionado, told the magazine his last album will be “No Way Out 2,” the follow-up to 1997’s “No Way Out” featuring his best friend, the late Notorious B.I.G. The release date of his final work is unknown.

“I want to stop at a great place. And a final album is a great place to stop. I want to take a victory lap, to do a world tour and really enjoy it once last time.” Diddy has starred in films such as “Training Day,” “Monster’s Ball,” “Get Him to the Greek” and “Rush Hour 4″ under his birth name, Sean Combs.

“When I’m gone, only the songs will survive. I know I’m making music that will live on. I don’t go into the studio just to be hot or to hear myself on the radio,” Diddy said in the interview. “Michael Jackson, Tupac, Biggie — part of them lives on in their music, even though they’re not here anymore. That’s really deep, man. The only thing like that is religion.”

His Bad Boy Family Reunion tour kicks off May 20 at the Barclays Center and will feature appearances by Jay Z, Mary J. Blige, Lil Kim, Mase, Faith Evans, 112, Total, The Lox, and Carl Thomas.
