Pittsburgh Having A Big Technology Boom

At a conference in Pittsburgh last month showcasing new technology companies, Mayor Bill Peduto cautioned the city to avoid the “precarious position” of Silicon Valley, where an explosion of tech wealth has left many people behind.

Benefits of the tech boom have been limited. Around Allegheny County, where steel and natural gas industries still provide an important, albeit declining, number of jobs, about 12 percent of the population still lives in poverty.

Pittsburgh’s angst comes as new tech replaces old industry, offering the biggest economic opportunity since the first steel mills opened at the end of the 19th century, but with no assurances of who will benefit.

Pockets of Pittsburgh now resemble a small-scale Silicon Valley, humming with fast-growing tech businesses that have attracted billions of dollars in private financing and young professionals commanding six-figure salaries.

Much of the new activity springs directly from the artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies pioneered at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh, premiere academic institutions that have helped anchor the city through its industrial decline.

Big 24 BackDoor - "Get Exposed"

Recently Lane Gang rapper Big 24 Backdoor released his music video for his new song, “Get Exposed,” . In the absence of Lane Gang mastermind Jimmy Wopo, Big 24 BackDoor and the rest of the Hill Street crew are back at it with clean visuals, filmed in California. With flashy cars as the backdrop and with the rest of the Lane Gang alongside, Big 24 BackDoor drips onto the scene with authority in his fresh new visual. “They call me Big Duece, Big 24, Backdoor. The Lane is Bedford Whiteside and Chauncey, we were like a music group that we called Money Lane. When we started trying to push little things here and there, I wasn’t taking it too seriously but then when Wop passed I wanted to keep his name alive. Wop was the best out of Pittsburgh ever. Lane Gang for ever. Thats all I’m doing, I’m just trying to hold Wop down,” Big 24 BackDoor said. This visual for "Get Exposed" is being released in support Big 24’s July 4th release called, BackDoorSeason. Coinciding with his performance in Pittsburgh opening up for rapper No Cap, the project will be available on all digital service providers including Apple and Spotify. “We still on the Lane everyday and we help out the kids and try to contribute to the community to help,” Big 24 BackDoor said about life in Pittsburgh. “No cap the way they rap out here, the shi* is hard. We like gangsta rap a lot out here, but I like the drip and mu’fuckas with they own style. They own shit, like they don’t try to copy nobody.” In the coming weeks the Lane Gang will continue to put out visuals from BackDoor and his most recent project. “I got another video coming soon and we gonna drop that in the next few weeks too,” BackDoor added. “I’m looking for more shows out of town and I’m trying to keep dropping. I’ll prob drop another tape, get a big feature. I’m trying to make it out of Pittsburgh, I’m tired of being here, but at the same time I want to put on for the city and I know I gotta get out to make it.”

$toney (@StoneysWorldd) - "Blow It"

Continuing with a steady stream of releases, Eastern Pennsylvania rapper/producer $toney delivers his next single, “Blow It.” $toney offers up some boisterous yet sedated verses for this catchy single, highlighted by a cryptic organ for the Scar produced track. “Its just me elaborating on the sounds I tried to create with BRB but I also wanted to give it some different elements and some faster tempo stuff with some different flavor,” $toney said. Throwing in some nostalgia while calling out the clout chasers, once again $toney shows up on time for the fans. After working as an engineer for years behind the boards this uniquely charismatic rapper garnered the attention of ElevatorMag this past June with the release of his single, “BRB” which has now surpassed 150k plays on Spotify alone with “We got a lot of great feedback on BRB and I knew that people were going to love it. That was my first time doing a full rap record and I’m trying to step back into the rap aspect of things. It’s my biggest single yet and its over 150k, so we probably gonna be dropping that video in the next few weeks. The videographer that I have been working with has been doing great work lately. I really hope people like Blow It just as much” From the fan favorites like "2 Phones" and "Counterfeit," from his project "Blood on My Heart" to his newest singles like “Blow It” and "BRB," you can hear the growth in $toney’s music as he continues to prove that he is far more than just and engineer with real bars as a rapper. While "Blood On My Heart" was released in February, produced entirely by McCoy and was dedicated to Jimmy Wopo, fans of $toney can expect a full length project at some point in the next quarter. “I’m just trying to keep building up for the next six months to a year and build up as high as I can so that when I make moves of any sort I’m a foot ahead,” $toney explained about his plans for the future. “Next we got the BRB video and we are probably going to release a new EP before the end of the Summer, and definitely something else, but those are some of things I have planned before the end of the Summer.” $toney is a promising Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania rapper, engineer and producer who got his start in music as a young teenager. Mastering his craft as an engineer at local studios, $toney operated the boards for nearly a decade, recording a host of artists including the recently slain Jimmy Wopo, ringleader of Pittsburgh's notorious Lane Gang rap group. Marked by long blonde dreads and an imposing stature, $toney immediately grabs the attention of the crowd when he steps on the stage. In June of 2019 ElevatorMag, AllHipHop, Dirty-Glove, HipHopSince1987, OnlineCrates and over 40 websites took notice of his "BRB" single which catapulted the lauded talent to the forefront of Pittsburgh's rap scene. Prior to the release of his fan favorite "BRB," in 2018 the Eastern PA rapper released his project "Blood On My Heart".

$toney (@StoneysWorldd) F/ Mark Parker - "BRB"

Recently $toney released his new video for his well received song "BRB". The uniquely bouncy record has an appeal all its own as $toney steps out from behind the boards after being an engineer for nearly 10 years. After debuting his "BRB" single on Elevator, the video has a chance to be his biggest video yet surpassing 25K this past weekend. From the fan favorites like "2 Phones" and "Counterfeit," from his project "Blood on My Heart" to this new loose track "BRB," $toney is proving his worth on the Pittsburgh rap scene and nationwide despite his humble beginnings. "I really dig this record and it has a unique sound. In this industry you have to bring some type of uniqueness to the game and it still has that popular modern bounce to it, so I think it's going to do really well with the fans," $toney said. "I think it's just that good ride and smoke music. You can party to it, you can ride to it and it's just good music that can get people hyped even though its chill." The track is the follow up to his project "Blood On My Heart" which was released in February, produced entirely by McCoy and was dedicated to Jimmy Wopo who $toney worked with frequently. After the loss of Jimmy Wopo, his close friend, frequent collaborator and recently signed Taylor Gang artist the Pittsburgh Hip-Hop community was in shock. $toney took the loss just as tough as anyone having spent many late nights in the studio with Wopo recording, engineering and perfecting their craft as he describes in a IG tribute to his friend. "It was a dedication to Jimmy Wopo," $toney said of his album title Blood On My Heart, "I produced and engineered all the music that he was putting out and. Im just glad he made the impact that he did and that people are still listening to him." Having started his musical career while bored in class at the age of 15 , he began recording the raps on his phone and posting them online and he's continued to grow and develop his craft recording and engineering at higher quality studios. With a smoked out vibe and a riding quality that all great albums posses, $toney makes it clear that his mood music goes well beyond the speakers whether in the car or at home.

No Limit Records Responds To Young Junns Rant

(The Wrap-Up Magazine) Pittsburgh’s local artist Junne has brought the worst of behavior to hip hop with his social media post that many have called a “clearly negative and desperate attack” for fame. Here’s the truth, Junne was found by No Limit Forever A&R Mr. Ross and was invited to come record music with the No Limit forever family and see if he would be a good f1t for them there at No Limit Forever. First of all P had nothing to do with this. Junne, like many independent artists showed up with many financial burdens.

Upon his arrival, while recording We provided him with money for meals, clothing, gas, countless flights to Seattle, Pittsburgh and money for many other endeavors of Junne’s with no contract. Junne was and is relatively unknown to the hip hop consumers. Burning up a No Limit Contract is like burning money, we only do 50/50 partnerships with artists while most labels only offer three sixty deals.

All P has ever asked of any artist was to invest their time. So if you call the studio a prison and prefer to party more than you put in work you can’t be serious about your career. Its funny how just last week he was posting all of this No Limit stuff up, but when mysteriously he posts up a video which was not authorized by No Limit Video director, he desperately turned it into his own video, and then he goes on a social media rant.

No Limit Forever A&R Director Mr. Bursh said “Junne was never signed to No Limit Forever Records and it’s truly disappointing that Junne has made it obviously clear that he is ungrateful for the opportunities that were offered him. The fact of the matter is Master P doesn’t benefit from working with unknown artists being he has already built a label that has sold over seventy five million records and he has dropped multiple mixtapes this year alone which makes him the hardest working artist on our label plus he’s the BOSS!

Chainsaw Stuck In Mans Neck

A tree trimmer is recovering after he was rushed to a Pittsburgh hospital with a chainsaw blade embedded in his neckJames Valentine was in a tree in Ross Township on Monday afternoon when he was struck in the neck by the saw.

Another worker helped him down, and his co-workers left the saw in place to try to limit the bleeding. Valentine had emergency surgery at Allegheny General Hospital. Doctors say the saw missed major arteries and instead cut into muscle. The hospital Tuesday released an X-ray showing the saw still in the 21-year-old’s neck.

Adam Nuckels - King Is Home

Adam Nuckels finds life post-pandemic with genre-bending new single ‘King Is Home’

Pittsburgh, PA– In the words of veteran Adam Nuckels, “Post military life has had it’s challenges.” Having served two tours of duty in the Middle East during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom – and 12 years of service in total – Nuckels left the military in November 2017 facing an uncertain future.  A close friend, Dustin Ionadi, had passed from a rare form of brain cancer after serving his time in Iraq and Afghanistan, and between that tragedy and the mental challenges from which Nuckels suffered, life was extremely difficult. Like many other veterans struggling with similar issues, Nuckels at first turned to alcohol to numb the pain. His depression deepened and he even attempted suicide multiple times. The journey got dark at times, but along the way he found some great support and has pro-actively been working toward full mental and physical recovery. One of the biggest things to help him through has been creating music.

Apple Set To Build New Headquarters In Texas

Apple Inc said on Thursday it would spend $1 billion to build a second campus in Austin, Texas that will house as many as 15,000 workers, amid a broader push by many U.S. companies to create more jobs at home.

The iPhone maker had announced at the start of the year it would invest $30 billion in the United States, taking advantage of a tax windfall stemming from U.S. President Donald Trump's sweeping tax reforms.

See More on Yahoo Finance

The 133-acre campus in Austin will employ workers across various functions including engineering, R&D, operations and finance. The city is already home to the second largest number of Apple employees outside its headquarters in Cupertino, California.

Apple will also set up sites in Seattle, San Diego and Culver City, California and hire over 1,000 employees each in these locations, while also expanding operations in Pittsburgh, New York and Boulder, Colorado over the next three years.

Many American multinationals have been facing political pressure to ramp up investments at home as part of Trump's "America First" policies, which have left the United States embroiled in a bitter trade war with China. The president has also warned of tariffs on iPhones and other Apple products imported from China.

Apple's technology rival Inc (AMZN.O) last month ended a months-long search for its second headquarters, picking New York City and an area just outside Washington, D.C. for massive new offices, with plans to create thousands of jobs.

The new Austin campus will be located less than a mile away from Apple's existing facilities, and will first house 5,000 new employees with the capacity to expand to 15,000.
