Woman Escapes Kidnapping

An Alabama woman saved herself from being kidnapped during a harrowing incident in Birmingham on Tuesday.

According to police, the woman was walking home when a man approached her with a gun and demanded money. After telling the suspect she didn't have any, the man forced her into the trunk of a car.

After the suspect drove to a gas station, the courageous woman was able to force open the trunk of the car and jump out just as it was starting to pull away. She then ran inside and called 911 for help, while a store worker hid her in a back room until police arrived. Authorities are still searching for the suspect.

Prison Inmates Protest Modern Day Slavery

On September 9, 1971, nearly half of the 2,200 prisoners in New York's Attica Correctional Facility staged a revolt to demand better living conditions. Exactly 45 years to the date, inmates from 40 prisons across 24 states, were unified in taking a stand of their own, which is comprised of many of the principles the prisoner's of Attica '71 stood for. Organizers who dubbed the event a call to end "modern-day slavery," are hoping that the strike their action boils down to, will speak loudly enough to force a change of living conditions, forced labor, and some fundamental pillars of the criminal justice system which they say sustains the oppression of the prison population.

Back in May, an Alabama prison strike followed one that took place in Texas the month prior, thus, the act is not necessarily anything new per-se. But it is one of the first times in modern history that inmates across state borders have attempted to coordinate a nationwide demonstration. Plans for the national protest were born out of The Free Alabama Movement, whose members began circulating fliers inviting prisoners to come up with demands they would recommend for improving conditions.

Some of the typical jobs inmates hold include landscaping, kitchen work, and general cleaning. While wages in some prisons very from state to state, inmates in federal penitentiaries earn between 12 and 40 cents an hour. In Texas, Arkansas, and Georgia, prisoners do not get compensated at all for their labor. Even more disconcerting to activists is the fact that prisoners really have no choice but to accept the work they are given, or face repercussions. "Typically prisoners are required to work, and if they refuse to work, they can be punished by having their sentences lengthened and being placed in solitary confinement," Wright said Editor of Prison Legal News.

"We're realistic. We know that all our demands aren't going to be given to us," says organizer Phillip Ruiz of the Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee. "The hope is that some concrete things develop as far as changing the conditions." He hopes the protest will send the message to prison authorities that "You guys aren't going to get away with what you're doing to prisoners anymore."

Katt Williams Sued

The victim, Ashima Franklin detailed in a lawsuit that she suffered a vicious “gang-style” attack at the hands of Williams. Their problems started back in 2012 after he hit her in the face. While touring after that, he allegedly abused her regularly. Williams is quoted in the lawsuit saying “Why am I sitting here with this hillbilly, Alabama, backwoods ass three dollar p**** bitch?”

She claims she was attacked by Williams and two other women the next day and suffered a swollen face and injuries to her chest, arms, and legs from the incident. Katt also threw hot food in her face on a separate occasion. Franklin is suing him for $3 million.

Universal Music Group Shuts Down Apple Music Exclusives

(The Wrap-Up Magazine) Apple’s iTunes, Lucian Grainge, CEO of Universal Music Group and widely regarded as the most powerful executive in the music industry, has reportedly ordered the company’s labels to stop the practice of making “exclusive” distribution deals with streaming services.

According to Bob Lefsetz, author of an influential music industry newsletter, Grainge sent out a company-wide email on Monday. UMG, which boasted seven of 2015’s 10 best-selling albums and 38.5% of the year’s recorded-music sales, will be the first major label to ban the practice, which many feel has begun to diminish rather than enhance the way music is distributed and consumed.

The directive will affect dozens of bands under the UMG umbrella, including all five of this year’s album of the year Grammy nominees: Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, the Weeknd, Chris Stapleton and Alabama Shakes.

The practice of artists offering exclusives to competing streaming and download services, including Apple and Tidal, has been gaining traction this year. Both Beyoncé and Rihanna launched their recent albums through Tidal, the streaming service part-owned by Beyoncé’s husband, Jay Z.

Kid Rock Talks Beyonce And White Chicks

Kid Rock told Rolling Stone he is “flabbergasted” by Beyoncé worship, saying, “Beyoncé, to me, doesn’t have a fucking ‘Purple Rain,’ but she’s the biggest thing on Earth. How can you be that big without at least one ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ or ‘Old Time Rock & Roll’? People are like, ‘Beyoncé’s hot. Got a nice fucking ass.’ I’m like, ‘Cool, I like skinny white chicks with big tits.’ Doesn’t really fucking do much for me.”

He has been hanging around with the likes of Hank Williams, Jr. and Bob Seger, the latter of which wrote “F.O.A.D.” (aka, Fuck Off and Die) for Kid Rock’s new album First Kiss. He also bought his 500-acre property in Troy, Ala., from a tip from Williams — sight unseen — to go along with his houses in Michigan, Malibu and Nashville.

The Georgia Tech Cheerleaders

Georgia may have some of the best players in all of college football on the field, and they have some of the best cheerleaders on the sidelines too. The Georgia cheerleaders are some of the hottest in the SEC. They always get the Bulldog fans excited for wins at Sanford Stadium.
All the preseason hype has gone to Alabama, and it's easy to forget that Georgia was just eight yards away from an SEC championship last year. And, if Aaron Murray had completed that pass, Georgia would have most likely beaten over-hyped Notre Dame to win the national title.
The Georgia Tech Cheerleaders are a highly visible and enthusiastic athletic group on campus. As ambassadors of Georgia Tech and Georgia Tech Athletics.

Women Prisoners On Birth Control

An Alabama jail guard raped an inmate repeatedly, and the female warden told her there was nothing she could do about it. Olivia Osborne, who was sent to the Birmingham Work Release Center in January 2011, sued her alleged rapist.

Within two weeks of her arrival, Osborne claims, Cheatham began watching her shower, making her cook him meals and forcing her to go on van rides. While in the upstairs TV room of the Birmingham Work Release Center, defendant Cheatham forcefully attempted to take off plaintiff’s pants with one hand and had a condom in the other hand. Fortunately, another inmate, Shaina Pouncey walked in and defendant Cheatham stopped his assault.”
