Waldorf Astoria Opening In Beverly Hills

Rumors are that the +Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts will be opening in Beverly Hills in 2017. Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts unveiled designs and announced the development of a Waldorf Astoria hotel in Beverly Hills, a partnership between a private investor group led by Alagem Capital Group and clients of Guggenheim Partners. The brand plans to open the new Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills in 2017.

Located adjacent to The Beverly Hilton on the corner of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards in Beverly Hills, the 12-story, 170-room luxury hotel will be the brand’s first new build on the West Coast and will join the Waldorf Astoria portfolio of 24 hotels and resorts.

How Do Dolphins Sleep?

Unihemispheric sleep is advantageous to mother dolphins and their calves as well. Dolphin calves are especially vulnerable to predators such as sharks, and also need to be near their mothers to nurse, so it would be dangerous for dolphin mothers and calves to fall into a full deep sleep as humans do.

Dolphins sleep by resting one half of their brain at a time. This is called unihemispheric sleep. The brain waves of captive dolphins that are sleeping show that one side of the dolphin's brain "awake" while the other in a deep sleep ("slow-wave sleep"). Also, during this time, one eye is open (the eye opposite the sleeping half of the brain) while the other is closed.

A 2005 study on captive bottlenose dolphin and orca mothers and calves showed that, at least at the surface, during the first month of the calf's life, both mom and calf appeared awake 24 hours a day. Even during this time, both eyes of the mom and calf were open, indicating that they weren't even sleeping 'dolphin-style'. Gradually, as the calf grew, sleep would increase in the pair. This study was questioned later, as it involved pairs that were only observed at the surface. A 2007 study, though, showed a "complete disappearance of rest at the surface" for a minimum of 2 months after the calf was born, although occasionally the mother or calf were observed with an eye closed.

Different Types Of Wolves

First up is a Timber Wolf (Gray Wolf) - The male stands 3 foot at the shoulder with the average weight being 100 lbs., but can be as much as 175 lbs. Their powerful jaws are built to crush the bones of its prey. They have the biting capacity of 1500 pounds per square inch. There are 5 subspecies of gray wolf and 7 to 12 in Eurasia, the arctic wolf is among these. 

Subspecies are often difficult to distinguish from one another because they have been known to interbreed in areas where their geographic ranges overlap. Earlier in the century these animals were labeled as troublesome livestock killers and were wiped out in Yellowstone Park. In 1995 Canadian grays were reintroduced to repopulate the park and today the reintroduction stands as a huge success.

Second, would be a Red wolf - This wolf is a much smaller wolf, standing 16 inches high at the shoulder and weighing 40 to 80 lbs. Their faces are much narrower, with larger ears and shorter coats. Their colors range from reddish to black. The red wolf was declared extinct in the wild, there were none in Canada or Mexico that could be transferred to the U.S., but there were a few in captivity that were bred and introduced onto public land with the help of the Fish and Wildlife Service, with success. Since that time the wolves have spread onto private land, and have once again come under attack by wolf protesters.

Mexican Gray Wolf - Smaller than the timber wolf, weighing 60 to 90 lbs. Until recently, the Mexican Wolf no longer resided in the wild in the United States. Hunted to near extinction here, they only survived in programs managed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), until March 1997 when eleven Mexican wolves were released into the wild in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. 

On August 7, 1998 Wolf #174 was found mortally wounded by a mountain lion. Wolf #174 was the first Mexican wolf to give birth in the wild in 50 years. The male wolf and pup are being monitored, in the wild, to be certain the pup is being cared for.

Coyote (prairie wolf) - This wolf is smaller and more delicately built, standing 16 to 20 inches from the shoulder. The males weigh 27 to 33 lbs. with colors ranging from gray to tan with rust. The coyote is not an endangered species, but are considered dangerous to livestock and killed by the thousands each year.

Car Crashes Into Day Care

At least eight are reported to be injured in a accident that involves a car crashing into a daycare in Florida. A manhunt is underway for the man who crashed a Dodge SUV into a second car, forcing the vehicle into a packed Florida day care center, killing one child and injuring at least 11 other children.

Robert Corchado, 26, who has at least eight arrests since 2000, fled the scene after the 3:11 p.m. Wednesday crash on a busy Winter Park road. The silver Dodge Durango was found parked in a driveway some 1.5 miles away — but Corchado was nowhere to be found.

The vehicle took off from the scene, while responding authorities transported 13 people, including at least 12 children, to five area hospitals. Two were treated on scene. There were at least 50 children inside the day care at the time of the crash in what was a “very intense scene, very severe scene.

Police located the car after 5 p.m. and the Dodge in question was roped off with yellow crime tape while officers were interviewing the home’s occupants at Orange Ave. and Walnut Ave. in Winter Park. Corchado served three years in prison for a cocaine trafficking conviction, the Orlando Sentinel reported. He’d also been arrested in December and was out on bail on charges of heroin and cocaine posession with intent to sell and leaving the scene of a crash.

Whole Cast Threatens To Quit Show

The +Real Housewives of Atlanta cast has threaten the t.v. network if +Porsha Stewart is fired from the show. As a result of Porsha's violence against Kenya she is allegedly fired. NeNe Leakes has already spoken out stating that Kenya and her "fake booty" should be fired instead, but now TMZ reports the ladies of RHOA have banded together and are threatening a walk-out if Porsha is let go! Of course not joining in the protest is Kenya herself who is campaigning hard to get Porsha fired!

Sources state that this weekend, during Kandi Burruss' wedding (which most of the cast attended), a plan was hatched to make it known to Bravo producers if Porsha goes, they go! A source close to the show claims the cast plans to tell "the show's producers how much they despise Moore because of all the drama she stirs up." It is true Kenya really has zero allies in the cast!

NeNe and Phaedra Parks have teamed up to take Kenya down and are campaigning hard to have Kenya fired instead of Porsha! As a result of the strike the ENTIRE cast's contracts for next season are on hold until the show decides Porsha's fate.
