Drake Sends Lil Wayne A Message

Lil Wayne celebrated his 34th birthday on Tuesday [September 27], and as might be expected for one of the most celebrated artists in music, he received a lot of birthday love, with everyone from his ex-wife, Toya Wright, to estranged mentor Birdman honoring him on social media. He also received a deep shout out from Young Money titan Drake, who gave the legendary New Orleans rapper credit for helping spawn his career.

“Everything I got is because of God and you,” Drake wrote via Instagram. “Happy birthday to my brother. Thanks for believing in all of us when you didn’t have to. YM we still alive Free C5.”

Fans might note that Drake closed his message by calling for the release of Tha Carter V. The world might not have to wait too much longer before Cash Money Records puts the long awaited album out, as a recent court ruling got the ball rolling in the direction of resolving Wayne and Birdman's bitter legal dispute. The Cash Money mogul was given a month to hand over a full record detailing how the $70 million Wayne was promised a share of was spent after a judge determined that the 22,000 pages of documents previously released were insufficient. While the judgement proved to be a set-back for Birdman, it didn't keep him from wishing Wayne a happy birthday, as he went about flooding his Instagram page with blessings for the man he's long referred to as his son.

Birdman Gets Ordered To Court

Lil Wayne is doing all he can legally to find out what Birdman did with the money he claims he owes him. A judge has ordered the Cash Money Records founder to share the accounting records aka the receipts.

Wayne had previously asked to see Birdman’s financial records to find out how he burned through $70 mil they were supposed to split from a $100 million advance from Universal.
As we reported … Birdman’s lawyers say they’ve already forked over more than 20,000 pages of docs to Wayne’s legal team. But Wayne’s attorneys claim those are useless, and they want a full-on money trail.

Here’s the problem for Birdman — his peeps over at Cash Money weren’t keeping very good track of those records … for 2 whole years. Birdman’s lawyer shrugged it off this way … “It is what it is.”
That excuse didn’t fly with the judge … who gave Birdman 30 days to find those records, or get the right person who knows where they are and get ’em to Wayne.

Rich Homie Quan’s Entourage Involved in Altercation

A Rich Homie Quan club performance in North Carolina ended in gunfire early this morning (Sept. 11). The Atlanta MC was in N.C. performing at the Diamond Club in New Bern. According to TMZ, police got a call about a shooting in the parking lot around 3 a.m. When they arrived they found five people who had sustained injuries in the hail of bullets.

The Craven County Sheriff’s office tells the site that members of RHQ’s entourage were involved in the altercation that led up to the shooting. The “Flex” rapper was questioned by authorities, despite not personally being involved. The investigation into what exactly happened is ongoing.

This is the second time someone has been shot at a rap related club event in the last month. In late August, a party hosted by Jeezy in Virginia Beach was cut short when a man was shot and killed at the venue. Details of what happened were scarce with police stating the man died from an “apparent gunshot wound.” The victim has since been identified by the mother of his unborn child on social media as Demetrius Darnell McCloud, also known as “Yang.” A GoFundMe account has been set up in his name.

The club has seen its fair share of violence. According to the Virginia Pilot that was the fourth shooting near the club in the last two years. The venue has since given up its liquor license.

Lil Wayne Sends Message To Young Rappers

"It's so easy to make a song these days, for these people man. Anybody could just become somebody. And you know, what the thing is, what I hate to shatter their world with is that, you're actually not somebody," said Wayne.

"Don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean you're nobody. But you're not actually doing what we doing, or what people like I have done. You're not. You're not, and you're not, and you're not and you're not, and you're not."

Birdman And Mannie Fresh Reunites

It has been over a decade since Birdman and Mannie Fresh split after a legendary run together as the executive + producer team behind Cash Money Records' rise in the rap game. But come October 7, they will have officially put their long estrangement behind them, as the duo announced a Big Tymers reunion show that will mark Fresh's return to the label.

Holding down the exclusive role as in-house producer of Cash Money since 1993, Mannie Fresh was almost solely responsible for the production work behind the Hot Boys albums that put New Orleans rap on the map. He would also compose the solo projects of members Juvenile, BG, Turk and Lil Wayne, before forming the Big Tymers tandem with the label head himself. But in 2005 a royalties dispute spelled the end of his relationship with Birdman, and the two went their separate ways.

News of the group's restoration comes on the heels of the label's deal to release a documentary titled, "The Cash Money Story: Before Anythang," through Apple Music. On Friday, September 2, tickets went on sale for fans interested in seeing the Big Tymers perform hits off of their 5 album catalog, at the New Orleans' House of Blues. The show promises to feature special guest appearances, and with such a nostalgic Cash Money Films project abound, Birdman just may make a push to bring other members of the original Cash Money camp back into the fold.

Boko Haram Attack Kills Hundreds

Boko Haram’s leader Abubakar Shekau claimed a massive attack on the northeast Nigerian town of Baga and threatened Niger, Chad and Cameroon in a new video published online on Tuesday evening.

The message came as Nigeria and its neighbours met in Niger’s capital, Niamey, to discuss a regional response to the threat and Chadian troops headed to Cameroon to help repel repeated Boko Haram attacks. “Heavy clashes” between Islamist fighters and Cameroon soldiers were reported in the far northern border village of Bonderi on Tuesday night.

Hundreds of people, if not more, are feared to have been killed in the attack on Baga, a fishing town on the shores of Lake Chad, in what could be the militants’ worst in their six-year rebellion. The rebels burnt large parts of the town to the ground and razed at least 16 surrounding settlements, forcing tens of thousands to flee their homes, many of them into Chad and Niger.

“We killed the people of Baga. We indeed killed them, as our Lord instructed us in His Book,” Shekau said in the 35-minute message, which was posted on the video-sharing website YouTube. The militant leader was shown speaking in front of four white pick-up trucks, with eight masked and heavily armed men. But there was no indication of when or where the video was shot.

Survivors of the Baga attack, which also saw Boko Haram fighters capture a military base used by Nigerian, Nigerien and Chadian troops, have described how bodies still littered the streets. Shekau dismissed the extent of the slaughter, saying: “We will not stop. This is not much. You’ll see.”

Representatives from Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon have been meeting to seek a regional response to the threat from Boko Haram because of increasing fears of cross-border raids. Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has also suggested a new force, possibly under the auspices of the African Union, to crush the group.

But in the video, Shekau dismisses the threat and shows off a huge arsenal of weapons, apparently from the military base, and said Boko Haram would take on all-comers. “The kings of Africa, you are late. I challenge you to attack me even now. I’m ready,” he said.

Thousands Killed In Nigeria Since The New Year

Jos, Nigeria, Boko Haram having killed as many as 2,000 in an attack on the town of Baga last week, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama of Jos hopes that Nigeria will see demonstrations of solidarity and unity in the face of such violence.

“I am thinking about the big demonstration which took place in Paris against the killings in France,” Archbishop Kaigama told Fides Jan. 12. “I hope even here a great demonstration of national unity will take place, to say no to violence and find a solution to the problems plaguing Nigeria.”

He also told the BBC the same day that the international community must show Nigeria the same spirit and resolve as it had following the attacks in France, charging that the West has ignored Boko Haram’s threat to Nigeria.

“We need that spirit to be spread around. Not just when (an attack) happens in Europe, but when it happens in Nigeria, in Niger, in Cameroon.”

The radical Islamist group Boko Haram launched an attack on Baga, an isolated town on the shore of Lake Chad in Borno, Nigeria’s northeasternmost state, on Jan. 3. The following day, multinational troops abandoned a military base there, and thousands of residents fled for Chad.

Boko Haram launched a second assault on Baga Jan. 7, burning down nearly the entire town and raiding nearby villages.

Musa Alhaji Bukar, a senior government official in Borno, suggested that some 2,000 were killed in the attacks, while other reports estimated deaths in the hundreds.

“Baga … was the last town in the Borno North area under government control,” according to the BBC. Boko Haram control an estimated 70 percent of Borno state.

In Maiduguri, the capital of Borno, three female suicide bombers killed around 20 on Jan. 10. One of the bombers was reputed to be 10 years old. The following day, two female suicide bombers killed four and injured 40 in Potiskum.

Over the weekend, Boko Haram attacks on a Cameroonian military base and on Damaturu, capital of Nigeria’s Yobe state, were repelled.

Baga had been attacked by Boko Haram in August, 2014, at which time 26 were killed, and 50 kidnapped. It was also the scene of an April, 2013 massacre in which some 200 villagers were killed and 2,000 homes and businesses destroyed. Villagers claimed that the massacre was carried out by the Nigerian military, while the Nigerian military in turn blamed Boko Haram.

Baga’s multinational military base formerly hosted troops from Niger and Chad, as well as Nigeria. Niger withdrew its force in October, after a nearby town was captured by Boko Haram.

Boko Haram, which means “Western education is sinful,” launched an uprising in 2009 and hopes to impose sharia law on Nigeria. It has targeted security forces, politicians, Christian minorities, and moderate Muslims in Nigeria’s predominantly Muslim north.

Boko Haram’s attacks have killed thousands since 2009, and displaced more than 1.5 million from their homes.

The U.S. recognized Boko Haram as a foreign terrorist organization in November 2013, after a lengthy advocacy effort from human rights and Christian groups.

On Jan. 1, days before the assault on Baga, the Diocese of Maiduguri – of which Baga is a part – posted this message on its Facebook page: “Despite the violence, despite the hatred, in spite of the blood, sweat, and tears shed last year, we are still standing. Whatever this new year may bring: good or bad, our faith will stand. We will survive everything the devil and his minions throw at us as a diocese, for the battle is not ours it is the Lord’s.”

“May he take control of our destiny, may he wipe our tears, may he give us relief from oppression, may he make the seeds -planted by the blood of so many- grow. This year, May God arise and let his enemies be scattered! May he establish his reign of peace and justice. We pray for this with all our hearts. We pray for patience to carry on, keeping in mind that it always seems darkest shortly before dawn. May this year bring about a turning point in our good fortunes.”

“On this world day of peace, that elusive quality and great good that we all need, may our blessed mother, the Queen of Peace intercede for us and our beloved diocese. Happy New year to you all.”

Man Uses Padlock To Shut Son Mouth

A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Nigeria’s Lagos state after authorities found he had locked his son’s mouth to prevent him from screaming while the “evil child” was beaten to death. Elvis has blamed the four-year-old Godrich for his ill-fortune in recent days and decided to kill his son as he was perceived as an “Ogbanje” or “child of evil”.

The bizarre incident took place in the Meiran area of Lagos, the port and the most populous city of Nigeria. The man inflicted deep wounds all over the child’s body while keeping him locked up in a room. Elvis, who works as a security guard in a private firm, had also pressed hot iron on the child.

As soon as the child’s mother came back from the market she came to know of her son’s death and reported the incident to the nearest police station. Subsequent to Elvis’ arrest, he acted as mentally unstable but the authorities deemed his condition as normal.
