Garth Brooks Makes A stand For Ferguson

Country music star Garth Brooks canceled scheduled media appearances this week, saing it would be in poor taste to promote his comeback album during national protests after a grand jury did not indict a white policeman in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager.

Brooks, 52, canceled appearances on NBC’s late-night “The Tonight Show” and the morning “Today” show as well as daytime talk show “Live with Kelly and Michael” and National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered.”

The St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, Missouri, has been hit by two nights of unrest after the grand jury’s decision not to indict police officer Darren Wilson after shooting 18-year-old Michael Brown in August 2014. The decision also touched off demonstrations in cities such as New York, Los Angeles and Washington. Brooks was scheduled to perform live on “Kelly and Michael” on Tuesday, while other appearances were to be taped and broadcast later

Beyonce Gives Positive Speech To 2020 Graduates

Beyoncé gave a moving speech for 2020 graduates over the weekend, telling them "real change has started with you."

"Congratulations to the class of 2020, you have arrived here in the middle of a global crisis, a racial pandemic and worldwide expression of outrage at the senseless killing of yet another unarmed Black human being. And you still made it, we're so proud of you," Beyoncé said in a video address as part of YouTube's "Dear Class of 2020" event.

"Thank you for using your collective voice and letting the worlds know that Black lives matter. The killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and so many others have left us all broken. It has left the entire country searching for answers," she continued." We've seen that our collective hearts, when put to positive action, could start the wheels of change. Real change has started with you, this new generation of high school and college graduates who we celebrate today."

She went on to discuss the music industry's own biases and how that prompted her to start Parkwood Entertainment in 2010.

Jess Connelly Releases New #Mixtape "JCON" @jessconnelly

Jess Connelly
Rising Manila-based R&B singer/songwriter Jess Connelly has released her anticipated new mixtape JCON.

The independent artist has quickly amassed a massive following in the Philippines as a leader of its underground R&B scene. The 13-track project includes the dreamy track “Call Me” produced by Dave Drake and Ayo, plus the previously released “Deep + Involved” and “Turn Me Down.”

Part Filipino and part Australian, the classically trained vocalist began singing as a child and later dove into songwriting at 13 years old. She was born in Australia and later migrated to the Philippines with her parents to start a new life. Growing frustrated with the music industry in the country that has traditionally favored industry-build pop stars, she set out to change it with her own art. Jess has since released music on her own that has sonically strayed from the norm and her one-of-a-kind artistry has quickly become sought after by the larger entertainment industry in Manila.

Who Working Overtime

Unemployment Rate in the United States decreased to 7 percent in November of 2013. The U.S. economy added 203,000 jobs in November. Its at the lowest level since November 2008, as more people said they got jobs and joined the labor force.

Unemployment occurs when people are without work and actively seeking work. Attitudes toward overtime and hours of work vary greatly from country to country and between different economic sectors. Laws that determine under what circumstances overtime must be paid to an employee are enacted at both the state and federal levels.

Forty hours a week isn't much time to accomplish your mound of endless tasks at work, making the need for overtime a reality for most. As with many agencies, special event overtime work is doled out based on seniority. The Act does not require overtime pay for work on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, or regular days of rest, unless overtime is worked on such days.

Understanding Mississippi - The US Explained

How did a little state that rests alongside the banks of a mighty river make so many contributions to American letters and literature? "There's so much that you can learn about the world, and I would say about this country, from studying what Mississippi writers have done and written about this place, which I think telescopes onto our larger national issues, and even some of our larger international ones."

Eminem's Copyright Infringement Lawsuit

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — They may not have lost themselves in the music or the moment but a judge and nine lawyers in a New Zealand courtroom did listen politely to Eminem's "Lose Yourself" as a copyright trial involving the country's ruling political party began Monday.

The Detroit-based music publishers for Eminem are suing New Zealand's conservative National Party, alleging the rapper's acclaimed 2002 song was copied in the party's soundtrack for a TV ad aired during its successful 2014 election campaign. Titled "Eminem Esque," the track has the familiar urgent, pulsing beat of Eminem's song.
