Former Law Enforcement Officers Sentenced to Nearly 20 Years

Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Terrell Parker witnessed the sentencing of two white former Mississippi law enforcement officers who tortured them in a racially motivated attack. Hunter Elward received a prison sentence of about 20 years, while Jeffrey Middleton, the leader of the group responsible for the abuse, was sentenced to 17.5 years.

The attack occurred after a racist call led the deputies to assault Jenkins and Parker with stun guns and other objects, subjecting them to racial slurs and a mock execution. The victims suffered physical and emotional trauma, with Jenkins sustaining a lacerated tongue and broken jaw. Elward expressed remorse for his actions, while Middleton acknowledged his failure to protect the victims and his family's tarnished reputation.

The judge emphasized the culpability of the defendants and the culture of violence within the law enforcement group known as the "Goon Squad." The incident underscores the prevalence of racial bias and police brutality in the area, prompting calls for accountability and reform within the law enforcement community.
