Young Thug Breaking Records

Selling 18,000 copies, Jeffery earned Young Thug the notable feat of having dropped three top 5 debuts in a year. His August release follows up on February's debut of I'm Up [15,000 sold], and the debut of Slime Season 3 in April [which dished 22,000 units]. All three rounded out in the top 5 of Top Rap Albums in 2016, a record for that chart.

Jeffery has also gotten busy in terms of singles, with four of the albums tracks having debuted on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Leading the way is his "Wyclef Jean" title, which enters at No. 30 with 5.3 million streams. Thugger is also riding the success of his Travis Scott assisted "Pick Up The Phone," featuring Quavo, which rose to 9.2 million audience impressions on radio through September 4. In conjunction with Usher, who records his 28th career top 10, Thug shares in the success of the track "No Limit," which rose to account for Thug's second top 10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Hip Hop has been enjoying a prolific year in terms of stats. Granted, the metrics of how units are recorded has changed with the boom of album streams, but never the less new precedents have been set in 2016. Kevin Gates dropped a pair of top 5 Top Rap Albums earlier in the year with Islah and Murder for Hire II, and Drake enjoyed a legendary run on the charts with Views, which set a number of records over its nine weeks atop the charts.
