JAY-Z Ties With Quincy Jones for Most Grammy Nominations

 


JAY-Z has officially tied with Quincy Jones for the highest number of Grammy nominations, with each music icon receiving a total of 80 nods.


Hov’s 2021 noms come from three of Beyoncé‘s 2021 Grammy nominations. He’s credited as a songwriter for “Black Parade,” which is running for Song of the Year and Best R&B Song, and “Savage,” which is up for Best Rap Song. This marks the fourth consecutive year wherein the Brooklyn rapper has received a Grammy nomination, and he last won an award in 2019 for Best Urban Contemporary Album (now known as the Best Progressive R&B Album) for Everything Is Love with Beyoncé.

Kendrick Lamar Wins Best Rap Album

 


Kendrick Lamar has won the 2023 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album with Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers. The rapper took home the award over fellow nominees Pusha T (It’s Almost Dry), Jack Harlow (Come Home the Kids Miss You), Future (I Never Liked You), and DJ Khaled (God Did). Cardi B presented the Grammy Award to Kendrick Lamar.

The Texas native dedicates the song to his hometown of El Paso. “With love, to the 915,” he writes on the cover art. Just this week, he earned three American Music Awards nominations and also received the key to his hometown.

Pharrell New Record Deal

Hit maker +Pharrell Williams just signed a new deal with +Columbia Records. Having been previously signed to +Interscope Records, where he released his 2006 solo debut In My Mind, Skateboard P is now prepping his “rap-free” offering featuring his hit single “Happy” for a release in 2014.

With contributing to two of this year′s best-selling singlesRobin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” and Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” — and seven Grammy nominations 2013 has been an outstanding year for Pharrell.

Jennifer Lopez Set To Recieve Major Honor

 


Jennifer Lopez is slated to receive ‘The People’s Icon of 2020’ award at the E! People’s Choice Awards on Nov. 15. The award will honor Lopez for her contributions to music, film, television, and fashion.


This has been a big year for Lopez, who was nominated for a Golden Globe (but not an Oscar) for her acclaimed performance in Hustlers. Jennifer Lopez was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy for outstanding variety special (live) for her headlining performance with Shakira at the Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show (Lopez's first Emmy nomination).


Lopez also received a pair of Grammy nominations in 2000 and 2001 for “Waiting For Tonight” and “Let’s Get Loud.”

Drake's Biggest Hit Is Sampled From Timmy Thomas


The 70's R&B song 'Why can't we live together' may be one of Drakes biggest hits as to date. The music teacher, whose 1972 song “Why Can't We Live Together” was sampled for Drake's hit “Hotline Bling,” hopes he will.

Originally released in 1972, Timmy Thomas’ peace anthem ‘Why can’t We Live Together’ is to get an official 12″ vinyl reissue after being sampled on Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’. The 2015 hit was built around Thomas’s stripped-back hook, made with just a Hammond organ and percussion from an early rhythm machine.

 Thomas is happy about the way Drake went about clearing the sample explaining, “he did it the right way, he contacted my publishing company and contacted my writers. And so there’s nobody running.” “Why Can’t We Live Together” is a song about peace and Thomas is glad Drake didn’t use any of the original vocals to change the meaning of the song.


In an era where artists are constantly being sued over sampling in their music Timmy Thomas is glad Drake sampled his 1973 hit, “Why Can't We Live Together” in “Hotline Bling.”

 Drake's massive "Hotline Bling" was not submitted, due to a clerical error on the part of label Cash Money. Drake did score five Grammy nominations in other categories, including best rap album for If You're Reading This It's Too Late and best rap song for "Energy."

Shaggy Gets 2015 Grammy Nomination

Get ready for new music and visual videos from hit maker Shaggy. Sean Paul, Shaggy and Ziggy Marley are among six nominations for the 2015 Reggae Grammy. Soja is the only international artists to be nominated for Best Reggae Album. Orville Richard Burrell (born October 22, 1968), best known by his stage name Shaggy, is a Jamaican-born American reggae fusion singer and deejay.

Blue Ivy Receives Her First Ever Grammy Nomination

 


On Friday, it was confirmed that Blue Ivy was nominated in the Best Music Video category for "Brown Skin Girl"—marking her first-ever nomination from the Recording Academy at just 8 years old. The song appeared on The Lion King: The Gift (Deluxe Edition) album and features vocals by Blue Ivy's mom, Beyoncé as well as SAINt JHN and WizKiD. Blue Ivy's contribution is heard in the intro.


Blue Ivy was not listed as a nominee when the nods were announced last month. However, the Recording Academy's website has since been updated to include her name. The "Brown Skinned Girl" visual is up against Future's "Life Is Good" featuring Drake, Anderson .Paak's "Lockdown," Harry Style's "Adore You," and Woodkid's "Goliath."

Denzel Washington Set To Recieve Award


Two-time Golden Globe Award-winner—and honorary sensational meme—Denzel Washington will be honored with the 2016 Cecil B. DeMille Award at the “73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards” on Sunday, January 10, 2016.

Lorenzo Soria, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), made the announcement of Denzel Washington’s honor, saying, “Washington’s long and storied career is earmarked by his countless roles in front and behind the camera. It is the HFPA’s privilege to honor his contributions to the entertainment industry with the Cecil B. DeMille Award.”

The Cecil B. DeMille Award is given annually to a talented individual who has made an incredible impact on the world of entertainment. Previous recipients include George Clooney (2015), Woody Allen (2014), Jodie Foster (2013), Morgan Freeman, (2012), Robert De Niro (2011), Martin Scorsese (2010), Steven Spielberg (2009), Warren Beatty (2007), Anthony Hopkins (2006), Robin Williams (2005), Michael Douglas (2004), Gene Hackman (2003), Harrison Ford (2002), Al Pacino (2001), and Barbra Streisand (2000). Denzel is also the recipient of two Academy Awards, two Emmy nominations, one Tony Award, one BAFTA Award, one NAACP Image Award, and a Grammy Award for his narration of the legend of “John Henry.”
