Ye is once again making headlines—this time for expressing regret over his past remarks about longtime friend and collaborator Jay-Z.
In a now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), Ye wrote, “All my dreams have been about apologizing to Jay-Z.” The message appears to reflect a shift in tone following a wave of backlash over previous statements Ye made about Jay-Z, Beyoncé, and their children.
Ye sparked outrage after a post in which he made deeply offensive and ableist remarks about Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s younger children. The post read in part: “Has anyone ever seen Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s younger kids? They’re r*tarded. This is why artificial insemination is such a blessing. Having r*tarded children is a choice.” The slur was widely condemned across social media and by fans.
Shortly after, Ye followed up with another post directed at Jay-Z, writing, “I’m sorry, Jay-Z. I be feeling bad about my tweet, but I still feel I gave my life to this industry and thought so many people were my family. But when I needed family on some real s**, none of these rap n****s had my back.”
The tension between Ye and Jay-Z has a long and complicated history, and Ye elaborated further during a conversation with DJ Akademiks. He expressed feelings of betrayal, stating, “Jay-Z, Beyoncé—you ain’t help me when I was having problems with my kids. You could have used your influence. No, your influence is for politics… You ain’t show up to my first wedding. You ain’t my family. I never had family out here.”
He continued, referring to public reactions to his comments and a photo he posted of his daughter:
“Everybody knows what I’m saying is true related to that photo that I put up with my youngest daughter. But everything is like, ‘But you offended Jay-Z.’ F*** him! How much money you think Jay-Z makes off my catalog versus what I make off it? God hurts too. It hurt me that I had to hurt Jay.”
