Derek Chauvin Reportedly Stabbed in Prison

 


Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted in George Floyd's murder, sustained severe injuries in a prison stabbing on Friday, as per a law enforcement source familiar with the incident.


The incident occurred at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, where Chauvin was being held in medium-security. Although the Federal Bureau of Prisons did not officially confirm that Chauvin was the victim, it acknowledged an attack at the facility and provided additional details in a statement. The victim was hospitalized, and the assault took place around 12:30 p.m. Responding prison employees implemented life-saving measures for the individual, and the situation was isolated and contained, with no threat to the public.


Chauvin's current condition has not been disclosed. The bureau of prisons informed the FBI about the attack, but no further details were provided about the reason for this notification.


An FBI spokesperson in Phoenix acknowledged awareness of an assault at the Federal Correctional Institute in Tucson, redirecting for additional information to the bureau of prisons.
