Top 5 Lima, Ohio Artist Who Made The Biggest Impact In Our Hip-hop Community

These Lima, Ohio artist has stepped up to the plate and will leave there musical legacy over the city's rap culture. The Buckeye state has no shortage of celebrities, but these Top Five artist sure stood out among the rest.

Even though Eastside Po was not mentioned in the article, he is next up on the rising artist list.

Were not saying that these are the best artist from Lima, Ohio, but I am noting that these are the artist who legacy will continue on through time.

In contrast with its East Coast, West Coast and Southern counterparts, Midwest hip hop has very few constants in style or production. Midwest hip hop's first dose of national popularity came in the mid-90s with the extremely fast-paced rappers known as Bone Thugs-n-Harmony (Cleveland), Twista (Chicago), Tech N9ne (Kansas City), Atmosphere (Minneapolis), and Eminem (Detroit).

But Ohio, in general, has a rich musical history that makes it one of the most important states when it comes to the evolution of sound in various genres. Everything from shock rock and industrial metal to funk and R&B developed in the Lima, Ohio area.

Gansta Marcus Speaks On Ferguson, Florida And Ohio Police Brutality

Lima, Ohio producer and website owner of The Wrap-Up Magazine decides to release several new tracks earlier this week. On included a track to speaks of dead teenager Trayvon Martin and Edward Wade. Its about time that a rapper talk more that just prejudice. Listen to the words in the song and check out this writen interview of what Nieman Marcus feels on whats going on in the world.

Federal charges unlikely for Darren Wilson in Ferguson case, officials say. Its sad that this man could not be charged at all in any case. I understand that he is a cop and its a high risk to lock him up, but a charge with at least parole with a guilty conviction is a option that could have taken place.

"The black community members that caused and supported these riots that took place helped to cause this conviction to go free." Ferguson is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. It is part of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area.

Not only is this is just happening in Ferguson, but also in many various states across the United States. Ohio is no better joining in on the cause of police power. Florida really started the statement that is invloving into a movement with Trayvon Martin.

Two police officers were transported to the hospital with minor injuries recently in Ohio. While just before that releasing the 911 calls and the full surveillance video of the confrontation and fatal shooting of a 12-year-old Ohio boy, The biggest problem that I see in Ohio is not only the prison system, but also local county jail sytems. They don't care if the jail are full and have minor convictions, inmates can sleep on concrete floors exposed to any condition that is at hand.

There is just too much going on in the world. Both sides of color need to put down all protest, police set down all weapons, and raise their hands for a change. Lets all march for a better world standing together no matter how much it hurts.

February 26, 2012, in Sanford, Florida, United States, George Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old African American high school student. Thousands then filled college field houses to hear Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin. Trayvon Martin was shot and killed as he walked to a family member's home from a convenience store.

The Middle Class Fight

Rumors are that +Rolling Stone interviewed members of our community in Lima, Ohio. Lima Mayor David Berger, and Jim Jordan were among those being interviewed. They tell their stories alongside local and state economic policies and election cycles. The long-form piece details everything from crime rates, to the town's teen pregnancy and restrictive abortion policies, to publicly-funded charter schools, to manufacturing plant productivity cycles, to Tea Party and GOP politics, even touching on gerrymandering's role on the town's recent history.

Another interesting part of the article was the overlap between Ohio Governor John Kasich's $1 billion state investment in mostly underperforming charter schools, when "two of Ohio's largest charter-school operators, David Brennan and William Lager, also happened to be the state GOP's largest individual donors, contributing more than $5 million to the Republican Party since the 1990s. Starting in 1998, schools run by the two men have reaped roughly one-quarter of all the taxpayer-funded charter money – about $1.7 billion. Ohio's charter—school operators have successfully claimed that the money given to charter-management companies is no longer public, leaving them exempt from government audits or any other public scrutiny."

Explaining the forces facing the disappearing middle class, Reitman spoke with Bill Faith, the executive director of the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio, who shared how "The economy is stabilizing somewhat, there are businesses coming back, but we're talking about half the size of what it used to be. You see politicians try to appeal to people in places like Lima and say, ‘We're going to bring back manufacturing. We're going to get these companies to come back.' The reality is, you've got to incrementally bring back employment of whatever kind you can bring back.'"

In an interview with House Rep. Jim Jordan, he divulged how Lima's future is in the industries it already possesses, such as oil, chemicals, heath care, and construction. In his words, "For every one of those examples, we have examples of what we do have happening... I'm 100 percent for green energy. I'm for ethanol, I'm for wind power, that's all great. But I don't believe in picking winners and losers by giving tax breaks to some industries and not to others. You don't want bureaucrats in Washington deciding what works and what doesn't; you want people to decide in the grand marketplace we have."

However, Reitman counters this thinking in her piece by writing how "government exists in part to help manage economic crisis. Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz, whose 2012 book, The Price of Inequality, deconstructs the effects of income inequality, believes the only way out of the current crisis is a comprehensive overhaul of the economic structure."

The entire piece is a fascinating ethnography of a small, Midwestern community failing to adapt itself after an industrial collapse, and can serve as a warning to other cities facing similar crises.

Ohio Cops Using Fake Checkpoints

Police in the city of 19,000 recently posted large yellow signs along Interstate 271 that warned drivers that there was a drug checkpoint ahead, to be prepared to stop and that there was a drug-sniffing police dog in use. Police in the Cleveland suburb of Mayfield Heights know they’re not allowed to use checkpoints to search drivers and their cars for drugs. There was no such checkpoint, just police officers waiting to see if any drivers would react suspiciously after seeing the signs.

Fentanyl Overdoses Rise In Ohio

The surge in overdose deaths prompted Franklin County officials to urge locals to carry naloxone — an overdose reversal drug — on them at all times in the event someone around them overdoses on opioids.

At least 10 people died of drug overdoses in a just over a one-day span in Ohio. "At this time we know fentanyl can be mixed into cocaine and methamphetamine. These can be deadly combinations for those who are using."

While Ohio often sees some of the highest overdose deaths, the opioid epidemic continues to plague much of the U.S. In 2017, Ohio had the second-highest opioid overdose rate in the country, with a reported 4,293 deaths.

Minimum Wage In Ohio Goes Up 25-cent

Here is another great way to bring in the new year for alot of Ohio residences. The Ohio minimum wage was last changed in 2008, when it was raised to $7.00. Ohio’s minimum wage is scheduled to increase on Jan. 1, 2019, to $8.55 per hour for non-tipped employees and $4.30 per hour for tipped employees.

This wage only applies to companies with annual gross receipts over $314,000. According to data from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a single adult would need to make $10.15 an hour, or $21,112 a year, in Mahoning or Trumbull county to pay for bare necessities, assuming the person lives in a studio apartment, has a low-cost food plan and drives a used car or uses cheap public transportation. A family of two adults and two children with one of the parents working would need that person to make $22.57, or $46,945 a year.

“The living wage is the minimum income standard that, if met, draws a very fine line between the financial independence of the working poor and the need to seek out public assistance or suffer consistent and severe housing and food insecurity.”

“Most studies show that incremental increases in minimum wage do not have adverse impacts in terms of unemployment rates and do not cause inflation, which are the biggest concerns associated with increasing minimum wage.”

Source

When the minimum wage increases throughout a geographic region rather than one city, it’s less likely to impact local businesses in a negative way, Sumell explained. For example, if only Youngstown increased minimum wage, businesses there might be inclined to move to a neighboring municipality to decrease costs.

Top 5 Places Missed In Lima Ohio

The Wrap-Up Magazine is doing a little survey on the Top 5 places that's most missed in Lima, Ohio and this is what the conclusion is. Leave a comment below if their is places in Lima you miss.

To kick it off, for me growing up as a kid I enjoyed going to Squirty Worm to get token, tickets, and prizes. They pizza was the bomb too. Aug 9, 2016 - Sunday marked the final day for Squirty Worm, a sports park that featured go-karts, bumper boats and miniature golf.

Second on my list was not just the American Mall, but Value City in general. If you were raised in a poor environment and could not afford the best, then Value City came into play. The American Mall opened in 1965 along West Elm Street on the west side of Lima, Ohio.

Chuck's Pizza came in third place due to the fact that who did not love their pizza? I grew up on the West side so I was in the store everyday buying candy and such. My mom and step dad ordered out from their all the time. Chuck's was located at 202 S Woodlawn Ave.

Next up came MCL Restaurant located inside the Lima Mall. I never understood why they closed down, they actually had good food with a hefty crowd. MCL moved to Illinois, Indiana and other Ohio locations, serving lunch and dinner seven days a week.

And last but not least came The Huddle. David McClain was the founder of the Huddle Restaurant and was owner and operator until 1980, when he sold it to his daughter Kay and her former husband. The original Huddle building was torn down.

Leave a comment below if their is places in Lima you miss.
