Multiple Lawyers To Sue Google

As much as we love +Google+, they may be having legal issues. Lawyers for the female celebrities whose nude or private images were hacked are threatening to sue Google for $100 million for allegedly failing to remove the images and “making millions from the victimization of women.”

Images of stars including Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Amber Heard, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez and Cara Delevingne have been distributed online in what is said to be the biggest celebrity hacking scandal in history. Now top Hollywood lawyer Marty Singer, who represents over a dozen of the women affected by the leak, has written a sternly-worded letter to Google founders Larry.

Page and Sergey Brin, as well as Eric Schmidt and Google lawyers accusing them of “blatantly unethical behavior” – and comparing their alleged lack of action to the NFL leadership’s handling of the Ray Rice affair. The letter, exclusively seen by Page Six claims Google has failed, “to act expeditiously, and responsibly to remove the images, but in knowingly accommodating, facilitating, and perpetuating the unlawful conduct. Google is making millions and profiting from the victimization of women.”

The letter continues, “Because the victims are celebrities with valuable publicity rights you do nothing — nothing but collect millions of dollars in advertising revenue … as you seek to capitalize on this scandal rather than quash it. Like the NFL, which turned a blind eye while its players assaulted and victimized women and children, Google has turned a blind eye while its sites repeatedly exploit and victimize these women.”

Antonio Armstrong And Wife Murdered

Armstrong was selected in the sixth round of the 1995 NFL Draft after having established himself as an All-American with Texas A&M. After being released due to injury he was picked up by the Dolphins. His family has created a GoFundMe page to help the couple's survived children. Armstrong was 42 years old.

A former NFL linebacker and his wife were shot dead by their 16-year-old son in their Houston home early Friday morning, July 29. No motive has yet been established, and details into the moments leading up to the execution of former Miami Dolphin Antonio Armstrong and his wife Dawn, are not known, but it has been reported that a note reading "I've been watching you," was recovered at the scene. The teen, whose name has not been released to the press, has been charged with murder.

Police arrived on the scene after Armstrong's son himself made a 1:30 a.m. call to report the shooting. Police are continuing to investigate, with hopes that information provided by Armstrong's other two children, a 20-year old son and teenage daughter who were in the home at the time of the incident, could lead them in the case. According to sources in the community, the Armstrongs were a model family who seemed to have a stable and loving family life, leading to questions as to what might have been the cause of the tragic killings. Armstrong had become an Associate Pastor in a local church, and together with his wife, owned a fitness company with three area locations.

NFL Partners With Youtube And Google

NFL has partnered with the biggest video website in the world, Youtube, to broadcast more content on an official channel on a multi-year, multi-million dollar deal.  First of all, it means search results will make it easier to find the content entered, giving better previews and even show YouTube videos for highlights. The only down side is it will not be available for past content, only content from here on out.

Facebook Video Views Grows

Facebook more specifically later noted that over 50% of people in the US who come to Facebook daily watch at least one video per day. It doesn’t break out how many of those are auto-played but did noted that over 65% of Facebook video views occur on mobile.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg pointed out in the call that while usage of Facebook has shifted over the last ten years, from primarily text through to “primarily photos with some text and video,” he may be understating things a bit.

As a point of comparison, he noted that there are 2 billion photos each day shared across Facebook sites — or, put another way, 1 billion less photos than videos posted to Facebook daily. And as a sign of just how much Facebook is pushing video growth, it was only in June 2014 that the company passed 1 billion video views per day.

“One of the big trends will be the growth of video content on our service,” Zuckerberg said in remarks about the how the service would look in three, five and 10 years.

Video is key to Facebook on more than one level.

On one hand, it’s a medium that helps keep people on the site for longer, by the very nature of the viewing experience. It’s something that Facebook has been doing well. By some estimates, it’s even driving video creators, and video views, away from YouTube, the online video leader.

Facebook said that in the last year, the number of video posts per person on Facebook increased 75% globally and 94% in the U.S. (My guess is that it will try to push more of this kind of “native” video in the future — that is, video hosted on Facebook rather than on third-party sites, either by offering more control and a better experience or better exposure in Facebook’s ever-evolving algorithm for what gets seen the most. Hosting the videos, of course, means that Facebook can monetise them better.)

On the other hand, with its close affinity with TV, online video is a honeypot for premium advertising and attracting premium brands. This is one of the big reasons why Facebook, and others like Yahoo and Aol and Twitter, have been pushing into the medium.

COO Sheryl Sandberg made the direct comparison between consumer video takeup on Facebook and how the social network is building out its video advertising business. “It’s exciting that we’ve gotten to 3 billion video views per day because it shows that consumers like video,” she noted. “That gives us an opportunity to grow our video advertising.”

“What really matters is that consumers are using videos on Facebook,” she said later, saying if they weren’t, “video ads would be very jarring.”

In the last quarter, Facebook rolled out autoplay video ads worldwide, and noted that “many clients told their stories creatively through video” but didn’t share any metrics on just how well this did.

Interestingly, while Facebook is pushing some premium content, including a new NFL feed that it announced today, it’s not putting all its eggs into the high-end basket.

“I don’t think it matters what that content is,” Sandberg said in response to a question about whether Facebook would be looking to do more deals to add more premium video content, similar to what YouTube has been doing. “We have an NFL test right now but we are already seeing explosive growth without it. We haven’t figured out what the mix needs to be.”

Facebook reported $3.6 billion in advertising sales on overall revenues of $3.85 billion but did not break out how much of that came from video advertising versus other formats.

Detroit Mafia Boss Dies

One of the American Mafia’s last old school Godfathers has passed away. Detroit mob boss Giacomo “Black Jack” Tocco died this Monday, July 14, 2014, at age 87 while surrounded by his family. Despite an alleged criminal career dating back to the 1940s, Tocco’s only conviction came in 1998 when he was found guilty of racketeering and was sentenced to two years in prison. The FBI also believes he is one of the men behind the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa.

Though the term is thrown around a lot in the media, in this case we can truly write that Tocco was one of the last of America’s “Golden Era” mob dons, says Mafia historian and author Scott Burnstein. “His time in the rackets dates back to the 1940s and the Tocco name goes as far back as the syndicate itself, with his dad, “Black Bill” Tocco, being considered the founding father of the city's mob and its first true mafia don.

A graduate from the University of Detroit-Mercy in 1949, Tocco quickly immersed himself in the “family” business. Upon graduation his father gave him Hazel Park Raceway on 10 Mile and Dequindre roads to run with his first cousin Anthony “Tony Z” Zerilli, who is himself another “mob son.” The two would have a falling-out after both men were convicted of racketeering in 1998 and Zerilli would turn state’s evidence in December of 2012.

Based on Zerilli’s information the FBI was confident it would find Jimmy Hoffa’s body at a piece of farmland Tocco once owned. However, after some serious digging in June 2013 they found nothing. Friends, relatives, and those wanting to pay their respect are welcome.

Wendy Williams Talks Beyoncé, Jay Z, And National Anthem

Wendy Williams kicked off her show with “Hot Topics,” which is a segment based on the latest celebrity news and gossip. Of course, there was plenty to say about the Super Bowl. Williams said she liked the halftime show overall and felt that both women did a great job. Ultimately, though, she felt Jennifer Lopez “won” the show. She said Lopez’s more glamorous look and dance moves are what sold her.

Williams condemned Jay Z and Beyoncé for sitting during the National Anthem. It was hard for people not to notice that two of the world’s biggest stars didn’t stand for the National Anthem. When Demi Lovato sang the Star Spangled Banner, most everyone stood up with their hands over their hearts. But the Carters did not.

Michael Vick Signs New Deal

The +New York Jets has just signed Michael Vick to a $5 Million dollar contract. He was widely regarded as the top free-agent quarterback, but he didn’t generate a lot of interest on the open market. In fact, the Jets were his first visit.

After finishing last season on the Philadelphia Eagles‘ bench, Vick said recently he wants to be a starter again, so he obviously feels he will have that shot in New York. He’s expected to battle incumbent Geno Smith in an open competition. Despite an encouraging finish, Smith hasn’t received a commitment as the 2014 starter.

Vick’s arrival allowed the Jets to part ways with Mark Sanchez, who was released Friday. A $2 million roster bonus was due Tuesday. Sanchez missed last season, recovering from shoulder surgery. His salary-cap charge is a prohibitive $13.1 million.

Sanchez was on the verge of claiming the starting job last preseason when he hurt his shoulder. Smith got the job by default, but there was no experienced backup — a void that may have cost the team a playoff spot. Ryan stuck with Smith through a brutal slump, in part, because there was no seasoned alternative.

Vick, who will turn 34 in June, won the Eagles’ starting quarterback job in a preseason competition with Nick Foles last summer. After pulling a hamstring in an Oct. 6 game against the New York Giants, Vick tried to return to the field three weeks later. He aggravated the injury and spent the rest of the season as Foles’ backup.

The Eagles signed Vick in 2009, after he served his 21-month federal prison sentence and was reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. The move was controversial among fans who objected to Vick’s dogfighting activities and also because the Eagles already had Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb on their roster.

Jim Jones Buys Partnership In NFL Team

The Richmond Roughriders of the American Arena League announced that Jones was a co-owner along with Greg Fornario and Michael Kacor. Jim stopped by E Bro in the Morning to explain that he’s getting into football because he “wants to bring culture to the game”.

This was a dream that the late rapper Tupac Shakur envisioned 20 years ago; Rappers owning sports leagues and uniting the youth and urban communities. It’s inspiring to see Pac’s vision come to fruition, and hopefully rapper’s continue to make these boss moves.

Joe McKnight Shot And Killed

Ronald Gasser and McKnight's vehicle were stopped side-by-side at an intersection where they reportedly got into an argument. A witness told the Times-Picayune that she saw a man yelling at another man, who was trying to apologize. McKnight was shot multiple times. The witness added that the shooter shot McKnight, stood over him and said, "I told you don't f*** with me."  He then fired again.

“At approximately 2:43 p.m. today we received a call of a shooting that occurred here at Holmes and Behrman Highway,” Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said. “Our officers arrived on the scene and immediately began giving CPR to an individual who was shot, lying on the ground, with EMS and others assisting at this location."

McKnight died of his wounds; he was just 28-years old. Normand says Gasser stayed at the scene and gave his gun to responding officers. Gasser was taken into custody and is being questioned. Sheriff's spokesman Col. John Fortunato says they're anticipating charging Gasser, but it's unclear what he will be charged with.

McKnight is a native of Kenner, Louisiana, and a former John Curtis High School football standout. He played for the University of Southern California, the New York Jets, and the Kansas City Chiefs.

McKnight is the second NFL player this year to die as a result of a possible road-rage incident. The trial is set to begin Monday for Cardell Hayes, who's accused of shooting and killing former New Orleans Saint Will Smith, as well as shooting and injuring his wife in the Garden District in April after a traffic crash and subsequent altercation.
