Apple Beats Hits New Highs

Apple needed a breakout quarter after its last whiff, and boy did it get one. The company reported revenue of $42.4 billion and earnings of $1.42 per share. Analysts were expecting earnings of $1.38 per share on revenue of $42.09 billion. As a result the company added tens of billions of value back to its share price, which rose more than 6% in extended trading. (6% might not feel like a lot, but for a company worth more than $500 billion, it’s a huge amount of value.)

That’s still a down quarter from last year. Apple then reported revenue of $49.6 billion on earnings of $1.85 per share. But that’s to be expected as the company’s core growth engine — the iPhone — has started to reach a saturation point and slow. Apple said it sold 40.4 million iPhones, compared to 51.2 million in the last quarter. But the last year has been largely iterative for the company.

This quarter largely shows an extension of that storyline. Revenue is no longer in growth mode, and iPhone sales are declining. But with industry watchers finally setting expectations that the company isn’t in full-on growth mode any more, it looks like positive news from the company is positive news for investors, who are still looking for new ways to value the company.

Last quarter was a pivotal moment for Apple. The company showed its first revenue decline in 13 years, missing analyst expectations by a mile. iPhone sales, Apple’s main growth driver, were significantly down from the second quarter a year earlier. That sparked a lot of concern that Apple’s core engine may have — actually, most likely — has hit a saturation point.

As a result of that report, Apple’s stock promptly fell off a cliff. $40 billion in value for the company was wiped out in a single afternoon. Google has been nipping at Apple’s heeels, and at some moments seemed likely that it would permanently overtake the position of the most valuable company in the world (as it did at one point, momentarily). Apple’s stock has really yet to recover from that fall in the last quarter, but today was certainly a big help.

Get Rid of the Wires and Go Cordless Charging

Are you ready to take your iPhone to the next level? Get ready to get rid of your wire and go cordless charging. With EnergixCharge you’ll never have to fiddle with cords again. Just put your phone down to charge and pick it back up when you’re ready to go. It makes the perfect partner for any desk or nightstand.

The EnergixCharge is a special charging device, developed by a grad student at MIT, that comes with an adapter that attaches to the back of your phone. It’s super thin, so you can fit a case over it, and it instantly turns any phone (Apple, Samsung, Nokia, etc.) into a wireless-charging capable device. Once the adapter is attached, you can wirelessly charge your phone on the super sleek charging pad or car adapter that comes with it, and your phone will charge up in minutes.

Given how new this technology was, I assumed this product would cost a few hundred dollars. After all, a wireless charging setup from Samsung costs well over $150. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that the complete package was selling for $49.99. That’s a much more reasonable investment then the new iPhone!

EnergixCharge works with all phone models including Apple, Android, LG, HTC, Motorola and just about any other phone on the market. Order your copy today on Dell.com

The World Largest Smartphone Makers

The latest numbers from Strategy Analytics reveal that Apple tied Samsung during Q4 2014 to become the world’s largest smartphone maker based on global shipments. According to the report, both Apple and Samsung shipped 74.5 million smartphones during the three-month period of October through December. Apple’s number is an official figure from its financial results, while Samsung’s number is an estimate since the company stopped reporting smartphone shipments a few years ago. The research firm adds that Apple and Samsung were last tied in smartphone market share in Q4 2011.

Apple experienced a record-breaking first quarter of the fiscal year because of strong demand for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The larger screen sizes of the two new smartphones were a major selling point for many consumers, attracting more new customers and Android converts than ever before. Meanwhile, Samsung reported a 27% quarterly decline in earnings earlier today amid tough competition from both Apple and up-and-coming Chinese rivals such as Xiaomi and Huawei.

Strategy Analytics claims that global smartphone shipments grew 31% annually to eclipse a record 380 million units in the fourth quarter. An estimated 1.3 billion smartphones were shipped worldwide in 2014, with strong growth in emerging markets such as China, India and Africa. Apple has experienced a lot of momentum in China, noting that its online sales in the region for 2014 were more than the previous five years combined.

Apple also surpassed Microsoft to become the world’s second largest mobile phone vendor on the strength of the United States and China. Apple’s 74.5 million smartphone shipments placed ahead of Microsoft’s 50.2 million units shipped, but were behind Samsung’s market leading 95 million units shipped. Apple and Samsung have global mobile phone market shares of 14.5% and 18.4% respectively.

New Investigations Say's James Brown Was Murdered

Here is another breaking story that is about to hit big. A new three-part investigative report has suggested that James Brown‘s death in 2006 may actually have been murder.

At the time, it was reported that the legendary musician died of congestive heart failure, but CNN now reports that over a dozen individuals close to James Brown, including his manager, widow, son, and friends, are calling for a criminal investigation into his death.

“He changed too fast,” Dr Marvin Crawford, who signed Brown’s death certificate at an Atlanta, said. “He was a patient I would never have predicted would have coded... But he died that night, and I did raise that question: What went wrong in that room?”

The investigation was reportedly sparked in 2017 when a circus singer name Jacquelyn Hollander called a reporter claiming that she worked with James Brown as a songwriter during the 1980s and that she had information on Brown’s death.

She alleged that Brown raped her and that, after the incident, she began to collect documents relating to the singer and his associates. CNN reportedly examined more than 1,300 pages of text messages from Hollander’s iPhone, alongside tens of thousands of pages of police and court records.

We will keep a close eye as more is being uncovered.

Apple Set To Build New Headquarters In Texas

Apple Inc said on Thursday it would spend $1 billion to build a second campus in Austin, Texas that will house as many as 15,000 workers, amid a broader push by many U.S. companies to create more jobs at home.

The iPhone maker had announced at the start of the year it would invest $30 billion in the United States, taking advantage of a tax windfall stemming from U.S. President Donald Trump's sweeping tax reforms.

See More on Yahoo Finance

The 133-acre campus in Austin will employ workers across various functions including engineering, R&D, operations and finance. The city is already home to the second largest number of Apple employees outside its headquarters in Cupertino, California.

Apple will also set up sites in Seattle, San Diego and Culver City, California and hire over 1,000 employees each in these locations, while also expanding operations in Pittsburgh, New York and Boulder, Colorado over the next three years.

Many American multinationals have been facing political pressure to ramp up investments at home as part of Trump's "America First" policies, which have left the United States embroiled in a bitter trade war with China. The president has also warned of tariffs on iPhones and other Apple products imported from China.

Apple's technology rival Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) last month ended a months-long search for its second headquarters, picking New York City and an area just outside Washington, D.C. for massive new offices, with plans to create thousands of jobs.

The new Austin campus will be located less than a mile away from Apple's existing facilities, and will first house 5,000 new employees with the capacity to expand to 15,000.

Apple Introduces New Spatial Audio and Automatic Switching

Apple has quietly continued to improve upon the AirPods Pro with firmware updates that have tweaked their noise cancellation and sound quality. The company rarely details or comments on the changes that come in each release of AirPods firmware; there are no update notes that spell out what’s new.

But last month, the AirPods Pro picked up a pair of new features that Apple did announce: spatial audio and automatic switching. Automatic switching is the simpler one, and it’ll probably make a bigger difference to your day-to-day use of the AirPods Pro.

Without you having to do anything, the AirPods will automatically switch between your iPhone, iPad, and Mac whenever you start using one of them. This handoff is nearly instantaneous; you can be listening to music on your phone, pause it, pick up your iPad and start playing a video, and the AirPods will be ready for that audio.

New Apple iPad Air And iPad Mini Released

All new models now support the Apple Pencil, but you might want to double check your iPad model before buying one.

It looks identical to the previous 2015 model. But everything has been updated inside the device. It now features an A12 chip (the system on a chip designed for the iPhone XS), a 7.9-inch display that is 25 percent brighter, features a wider range of colors and works with True Tone.

Unlike with the iPad Pro, the iPad mini still features a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, a Lightning port and a headphone jack. You can buy it today for $399 for 64GB.

Second, the iPad Air. While the name sounds familiar, this is a new device in the iPad lineup. When Apple introduced the new iPad Pro models back in October, Apple raised the prices on this segment of the market.

The iPad Air now features an A12 chip, which should represent a significant upgrade over the previous generation iPad Pro that featured an A10X. The iPad Air works with the Smart Keyboard. You can buy the device today for $499 with 64GB of storage. You can choose to pay more for 256GB of storage and cellular connectivity. It comes in silver, space gray and gold.

A Revolution In Learning

A revolution in learning has already begun. Revolution and has been giving great impacts on all kinds of human activities. Educational and learning support activities are not exception.

Established teaching methodologies are reaching their limits in most developed countries. New requirements are needed. In the search for solutions, technology is playing an increasingly prominent role — allowing for new approaches such as the “inverted classroom,” Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCS) and “mobile learning”.

Real changes and disruptions usually come “from below”: through the individual decisions of the many rather than through sweeping decrees from the government. From the car to the internet to the tablet to the iPhone — that is, in all the great upheavals that new technologies have created in our lifestyle, culture, and working environment.

SHOULD YOU GET A PSYCHOLOGY DEGREE? HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

We all know that everyone has different talents and different interests. We celebrate personal uniqueness in so many places, and yet our schools still follow a factory model that forces both teachers and students into routines that engage and reward certain learners while marginalizing others.

The fact is that recent research from neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and related fields has uncovered that each of us has a range of strengths and weaknesses among the numerous brain functions that influence learning, as well particular subjects, ideas, and pursuits we’re drawn to – our affinities. Collectively, these strengths, weaknesses and affinities shape both how we learn and what engages us – which in turn both influence how much we actually learn and thrive in a given situation.

PC And Mobile Devices Set To Rise

On average, the price of PCs and phones will go up by 2 percent this year. The calculations are based on U.S. dollars and average market sizes. The prices will go up largely due to the rising prices of components. Also, more users are upgrading to more expensive and feature-rich mobile handsets.

This year is expected to big for smartphones. Samsung has launched the Galaxy S8 smartphones, and Apple is expected to launch its 10th anniversary iPhone later this year. Premium-priced smartphones will go up by roughly 4 percent.

A good barometer for mobile phone pricing is the Chinese market. Global pricing of Chinese branded smartphones will go up to RMB 2,000 (US$290) by the end of this year from RMB 1,700 (US$246) at the end of last year.

The PC market has slowed down, and it is driven now by high-priced gaming PCs and 2-in-1s. Buyers of those PCs are willing to spend more money on their computers. Low-end laptops and desktops will remain available, but PC makers like Dell and HP are slimming down those offerings. Low-cost laptops like Chromebooks typically have aging components, little storage, low-resolution webcams, and limited memory.

Gartner estimates 426 million computing devices, including PCs and tablets, will ship this year, dropping from 439 million last year. PC shipments will total 265 million this year, dropping from 270 million last year. Shipment of tablet devices like the iPad will total 161 million, dropping from 169 million last year, the analyst group predicted.
