Understanding The Jennifer Lopez Documentary “Halftime” At Tribeca Festival

The Jennifer Lopez documentary “Halftime” is kicking off the 21st Tribeca Festival on Wednesday, launching the annual New York event with an intimate behind-the-scenes portrait of the singer-actor filmed during the tumultuous year she turned 50, co-headlined the Super Bowl and narrowly missed out on an Oscar nomination.

The star-studded, musical premiere at the United Palace in Washington Heights serves as an appropriate opener for the Tribeca Festival, which has jettisoned “Film” from its name to better reflect the wide array of concerts, talks, television premieres, podcasts and virtual reality exhibits that increasingly fill its busy live-event schedule alongside movies.

Even Gene Simmons Can't Believe How Big KISS's Success Is

Music fans have long been charmed by Kiss's ferocious rise in the '70s from a rat-infested rehearsal space to worldwide acclaim, but Simmons tells Q104.3 New York's Jim Kerr and Shelli Sonstein that the view from the proverbial Kiss rocket ship is "even crazier."

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer says he struggled for years to articulate what it means for Kiss to be so successful for so long. He offered an analogy to explain his perspective.

Could Charlamagne Tha God Be A Sex Offender?

R Kelly had the best celebrity sex tape of all time,” Charlamagne tweeted in 2010, along with a series of other dubious and disturbing tweets addressing Kelly’s predilection for underage girls.

One of the biggest criticisms of the “Surviving R. Kelly” documentary was its inclusion of radio personality, Charlamagne Tha God, who in his past has also been accused of sexual assault. To complicate matters even further, old tweets recently resurfaced in which “The Breakfast Club” host appears to be supporting R. Kelly and his sex tape with a minor.

“The most important criticism I’ve gotten is having Charlamagne, who is a radio personality in New York City, on to talk about R. Kelly when he himself was accused about 10, 15 years ago of sexual assault. So, that criticism is one that I have to look at,” said hampton on the radio show “The Takeaway.”

“We definitely limited the amount of time that he got,” hampton added. “He was so clear and so forceful in his condemnation of R. Kelly. If I could have interviewed him after the story broke about his sexual assault allegations in his own past, I would have asked him to reckon with his own past on camera. But I wish that I had not included him in this documentary.”

The Story of Eminem - Full Documentary

The new millennium brought forth a tidal shift in the music industry and one artist stood tallest in that transformation. Marshall Mathers, more commonly known as Eminem, swept the global music scene with his unique phrasing, infectious productions, and almost uncomfortably confessional lyrics.

The origins of Eminem's career as rap superstar began under the tutelage of Dr. Dre, who exposed his young protégé to the possibilities of music production, and the creation of a consistently provocative sonic experience which carries over the course of an entire album.

Michael Jackson Is Being Banned All Around The Globe

This is big for the music industry in the case of Michael Jackson. Who would have thought in a million years that they would be trying to lock Michael Jackson up in 2019.

It was expected that the explosive details set to be revealed in the recently aired Leaving Neverland documentary would have some requisite fallout. Stations In Canada and New Zealand took songs from its playlist after the documentary aired in the States.

Michael Jackson isn’t currently on any MediaWorks Radio stations’ playlists,” Leon Wratt, the company’s director for radio, said in a statement. “This is a reflection of our audiences and their preferences — it is our job to ensure our radio stations are playing the music people want to hear.”

A spokesman for Radio NZ, a publicly-funded broadcaster, said it would only play Jackson if it was “part of a news story or to provide color around a commentary piece.”

In Canada, three major Montreal-based radio stations have also stopped playing Jackson’s music, according to Canadian news outlet CBC. Other stations in Canada are reported to be monitoring the situation.

Lawsuit Dismissed Against Jay-Z & Meek Mill

Jay-Z and Meek Mill have reportedly settled a lawsuit with a Philadelphia police officer who sued both of them along with Roc Nation after a depiction of her in the 2019 Amazon original doc ‘Free Meek.’

The documentary spoke on Meek’s incarceration, and how the rapper shifted his focus on calling out the injustices of the U.S. prison system and criminal justice system in Philadelphia. Crooked police officers in Philly were highlighted as well, but it was revealed that one of the officers—Saqueta Williams, was reportedly proven to be innocent of any wrongdoing as a cop. Williams ultimately sued Roc Nation, Jay-Z, and Meek for invasion of privacy and defamation as a result after she was labeled as a crooked police officer.

Ohio Bank Pays Off Moms Student Loan Dept For Christmas

One lucky woman in Ohio just received her student loan dept paid off by surprise by an Ohio Bank. A 30-year-old nurse and single mother was given the surprise of her life when a bank paid of the rest of her student loans just before the holidays. Now that's a Christmas gift to remember.

On Wednesday, Jasmin Ford thought she was just participating in a documentary about student loans; little did she know, her $150,000 student loan debt was about to be lifted off her shoulders.

Ford was the first in her family to graduate from college and eventually received a Master’s degree in nursing years later. However, with no financial help from family, she was forced to take out massive student loans just to cover tuition, food, rent, and other necessities.

“I could not foresee when I’d be able to pay it off,” Ford said of her debt. “I just knew this was going to be a part of my life as long as I was alive unless there was some significant change, which -- wow.”

Ford’s surprise was made possible by Fifth Third Bank, which selected her to be in a documentary on student loan debt.  On the day of the big gift, Ford just thought the film crew was coming back to shoot some additional video. Then they revealed her student loan debt was gone.

“I still can’t find the words,” Ford said Thursday. “I’m off work again today and I’m just sort of pacing around and restless because I know my life is going to change.”

Ford said life will also change for her son, Caleb. Previously, Ford worked two jobs almost every day of the week. Now, she can’t wait to pull back on work and spend more time with her family.

“I just imagine being able to spend more time physically with my family, not having to hustle, having mental freedom and with that, some spiritual freedom,” she said. “I can open myself to more experiences, opportunities and just be able to sit and be with my thoughts and be able to pursue what it is I came to do.”

“His life will be totally different,” she added. “I’m so happy and so proud that I’m able to offer that to him more than anything else because he deserves it.”

Did Diddy Have Tupac Killed?

(The Wrap-Up Magazine) Rumors are that a former cop that's been investigating the Tupac death has reportedly cracked the case. The music mogul formerly known as Puff Daddy offered Crips member Duane Keith (Keffe D) Davis $1 million to whack Shakur and his manager, Suge Knight, former LAPD detective Greg Kading boldly alleged in a documentary, according to the Huffington Post.

Kading, who once led a task force investigating the shooting deaths of Shakur and Smalls, supposedly wrangled a confession out of Keffe D after the Crips member feared facing charges for a different crime. “If his intention was to just get away with it, so to speak, it would have been very easy for him to not include all the details that he did,” Kading told the Huffington Post.

Knight, 50, is currently serving jail time on charges he ran over two men with his truck, killing one, outside a Compton burger restaurant last January. The documentary in which Kading makes his case — called “Murder Rap” and based on a book he wrote in 2011 — will stream on Netflix this spring.
