Apple Set To Build New Headquarters In Texas

Apple Inc said on Thursday it would spend $1 billion to build a second campus in Austin, Texas that will house as many as 15,000 workers, amid a broader push by many U.S. companies to create more jobs at home.

The iPhone maker had announced at the start of the year it would invest $30 billion in the United States, taking advantage of a tax windfall stemming from U.S. President Donald Trump's sweeping tax reforms.

See More on Yahoo Finance

The 133-acre campus in Austin will employ workers across various functions including engineering, R&D, operations and finance. The city is already home to the second largest number of Apple employees outside its headquarters in Cupertino, California.

Apple will also set up sites in Seattle, San Diego and Culver City, California and hire over 1,000 employees each in these locations, while also expanding operations in Pittsburgh, New York and Boulder, Colorado over the next three years.

Many American multinationals have been facing political pressure to ramp up investments at home as part of Trump's "America First" policies, which have left the United States embroiled in a bitter trade war with China. The president has also warned of tariffs on iPhones and other Apple products imported from China.

Apple's technology rival Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) last month ended a months-long search for its second headquarters, picking New York City and an area just outside Washington, D.C. for massive new offices, with plans to create thousands of jobs.

The new Austin campus will be located less than a mile away from Apple's existing facilities, and will first house 5,000 new employees with the capacity to expand to 15,000.

Pittsburgh Having A Big Technology Boom

At a conference in Pittsburgh last month showcasing new technology companies, Mayor Bill Peduto cautioned the city to avoid the “precarious position” of Silicon Valley, where an explosion of tech wealth has left many people behind.

Benefits of the tech boom have been limited. Around Allegheny County, where steel and natural gas industries still provide an important, albeit declining, number of jobs, about 12 percent of the population still lives in poverty.

Pittsburgh’s angst comes as new tech replaces old industry, offering the biggest economic opportunity since the first steel mills opened at the end of the 19th century, but with no assurances of who will benefit.

Pockets of Pittsburgh now resemble a small-scale Silicon Valley, humming with fast-growing tech businesses that have attracted billions of dollars in private financing and young professionals commanding six-figure salaries.

Much of the new activity springs directly from the artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies pioneered at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh, premiere academic institutions that have helped anchor the city through its industrial decline.

Machine Gun Kelly Booed Off Stage

After the Pittsburgh native started rapping his Eminem diss "Rap Devil," an audible portion of the crowd began to boo. Footage of the moment shows Kelly saying "fuck Marshall Mathers" before launching into the song. The crowd at the Amway Center, where MGK was opening for Fall Out Boy, responded with apparent disapproval, interspersed with cheers.

The images, posted on the rapper's Instagram, show him wearing a shirt featuring the cover art for Eminem's "Rap Devil" response, "Killshot," while flipping off the camera as fans in the background raise their middle fingers.

Several comments on MGK's post allege that the rapper was wearing a sweatshirt when he asked fans to flip the bird for an unspecified reason, and that he only unveiled the "Killshot" shirt, featuring an illustration of his man bun, right before snapping the photos.

Machine Gun Kelly Disses Eminem Live In Performance

"Rap Devil," which debuted this week at No. 13 on the Hot 100, was recorded as a response to Eminem's Kamikaze track "Not Alike." Shady's response, "Killshot," released on Friday, compares Machine Gun Kelly to nine-year-old social media phenom Lil Tay and makes fun of the rapper's hair.

Watts master emcee Libretto and Pittsburgh producer extraordinaire BusCrates join forces for their new collaborative 7” single, “Ain’t That Funky” b/w “Sentence.” The single, along with the forthcoming album, features Libretto’s commanding presence atop BusCrates signature chops and keyboard wizardry. Bill Cosby Headed To Trial

Bill Cosby is facing up to a decade in jail for an alleged sexual assault. The 79-year-old actor and comedian was charged for allegedly drugging and molesting a Temple University employee named Andrea Constand. Now, news has surfaced that Cosby's sexual assault trial will begin June 5, 2017.

Cosby will be on trial for three aggravated assault charges. According to Judge Steven O'Neill, the trial will more than likely last up to two weeks. When discussing the trial timeline at the pre-trial hearing that took place this past Monday, O'Neill noted that the amount of time the trial is estimated to last is surprising considering the amount of time passed since charges were filed by the victim. The charges were filed in December 2015. Since the filing of the charges, multiple pre-trial hearings took place and found prosecutors and defense lawyers going back and forth about how the trial should commence.

The pre-trial hearing that took place this past Monday solely focused on jury selection for the case. Jurors selected to participate in the case will be chosen from Pittsburgh, and they will be taken away and isolated in Norristown - located in Philadelphia. Judge O'Neill noted that he is looking to pick jurors for the case in late May. O'Neill also made it clear that the jurors names will not be made public. Cosby is looking to make sure that his own testimony from a 2006 deposition won't be used against in court, as his team views the deposition as "damaging." In the deposition, Cosby spoke about getting quaaludes and giving them to women he wanted to have sex with. The District Attorney on the case will be arguing that Cosby is familiar with date-rape drugs and even performed comedic bits about them in his shows.
