The Notorious B.I.G. honored by Jay-Z, Nas, Diddy & more

 


Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorious B.I.G., T. Rex, Whitney Houston and The Doobie Brothers were all inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday (11/7) during a virtual ceremony that's rewatchable on HBO Max.


Biggie was inducted by his longtime producer and Bad Boy Records label boss Diddy, who said, "Big just wanted to be biggest, he wanted to be the best, he wanted to have influence and impact people in a positive way, and that clearly has been done all over the world. Nobody has come close to the way Biggie sounds, to the way he raps, to the frequency that he hits. Tonight we are inducting the greatest rapper of all time into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."


The Biggie segment also included archival interview and performance footage of Big, and Jay-Z, Nas, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Biggie's family members also spoke about him as well.

What Do You Think About Nas New Album King's Disease?


Clocking in at 38 minutes, the 13-track LP follows 2018’s Nasir and hears production entirely handled by Hit-Boy. The esteemed New York rapper also enlists the help of Don Toliver, Big Sean, Charlie Wilson, Lil Durk and many more.

This collaborative effort with Hit-Boy is a long time coming, with Nas explaining that he and the producer have been trying to link up for years. Timing plays an important role in Nas’ creations, and it sounds like everything fell into place for King’s Disease.

Since his debut, DMX has released seven studio albums. He has been featured in films such as Belly, Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave and Last Hour. In 2006, he starred in the reality television series DMX: Soul of a Man, which was primarily aired on the BET cable television network.


I enjoyed the movie Belly myself. I felt it was a great inspiration to the streets of America today.

This is an incredible feat as both rappers are considered in different rap genealogies to be the best rappers to ever touch the mic and there have been rumors of friction between camps dating back to the late 90s or early 2000s.

But after working with the diamond-selling artist, Jay-Z saw what that kind of fame did to Eminem. And it was something that Jay-Z wanted no part of.


Jay-Z believed that Eminem bested him when they originally collaborated.

Nas celebrates black culture and beauty in his new video for “Ultra Black.” The song appears on his latest studio album, King's Disease. The album, which released last week was entirely produced by Hit-Boy.

One appearance in the video was moving: Dapper Dan who appeared to be walking the streets of Harlem. In another scene, Pyer Moss’ Kerby Jean Raymond also appears. Overall, the notion of beauty in Blackness is made clear in the Spike Jordan-directed video.

"Old Town Road" Remains At #1


It's safe to say that Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" is the biggest hit of the year, and he recently showed off the streaming numbers to prove it. The hit song has five of the biggest streaming weeks in the U.S. this year.

The news comes as "Old Town Road," which features Billy Ray Cyrus, remains at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the sixth consecutive week. The song also returned to #1 on Digital Song Sales for a fourth week. 

Last month, it was revealed that "Old Town Road" broke Drake's streaming record. Drake previously held the record for 116.2 million streams for "In My Feelings," which Lil Nas X smashed with 143 million streams for the week of April 20.

Jay-Z, Diddy, Nas back McGuire for NYC mayor

 


Hip-hop legends Jay-Z, Diddy and Nas endorsed banker Ray McGuire for New York City mayor. The three entertainers praised McGuire in a video posted on YouTube.


“People come from all over the world and say, ‘If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere.’ That’s the idea that we are trying to protect," Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter said. Sean “Diddy” Combs said that over the last 30 years, McGuire “was always talking about the people.”

#Throwback Eminem, Jay Z - Renegade

 


"Renegade" is a song by rapper Jay-Z, which appears as the 12th track on his sixth album The Blueprint. The song is written by Jay-Z, Eminem, and Luis Resto.


Eminem, who is the only guest appearance on the album with rap verses also produced the track. It was originally a collaboration between Eminem and Royce da 5'9" as part of the Bad Meets Evil series, but Royce was later replaced by Jay-Z.
