Lil Wayne Tops All Mixtapes For 2018

It's time to rate all mix-tapes that were released in 2018 from Lil Wayne, to Meek Mill. Over the past decade, mix-tapes have become just as important as albums.

New albums by your favorite artist are always exciting, but mixtapes can have their own appeal. A mixtape is sometimes part of a promotion for a larger upcoming project, or a way to hold fans over if an artist is busy and unable to release a full-blown album for the foreseeable future.

Young Thug Changes Album Title

I still lost all respect for +Young Thugga only due to the fact of whats going on with +Birdman and +Lil Wayne. Young Thug has renamed his upcoming album to the Barter 6. In addition to switching the title, Thugga took to Instagram to announce that his first show, following the album’s release, will be in Hollygrove, Louisiana.

Young Thug is referring to the same Hollygrove neighborhood in New Orleans, Lil Wayne and Mack Maine grew up in. “YSL Carter 6 coming out Friday. First show, New Orleans, Hollygrove fuck nigga, meet me there, better yet beat me there,” Thug says in a new Instagram video, as two men stand behind him waving firearms. Just a few days later, Thug uploaded a video to Instagram that features various clips of him performing while a woman narrates what seems to be shots at Wayne and his imprint.

The “New Atlanta” rapper has been using his Instagram account to fuel his feud with Lil Wayne. After Wayne urged fans to “stop listening to songs of niggas who pose naked on their motherfucking album covers,” Thug responded by saying, “I understand that Lil Wayne is frustrated about his career and I feel him on that, but this is my idol. I would never in my life swap words with him or beef with him about nothing. This is a person that I look up to. Ha Ha.”

Lil Wayne Gets Tattoo On His Forehead

I don't know whats up with Lil Wayne and Birdman having tattoos on there heads but I guess its a trend for some people. The rapper, who recently had two seizures, showed off his new ink earlier this week with Twitch during this year’s E3 in Los Angeles. Weezy was there to promote his new mobile game Sqvad Up.

He was originally expected to not show up due to being hospitalized earlier in the week, but surprised fans with his arrival and even hit the stage to perform a medley of some of his biggest songs including “Lollipop” and “A Milli.” Wayne was joined by skateboarders performing tricks behind him during the set.

Chris Brown And Lil Wayne Under Investigation

Chris Brown and Lil Wayne are being investigated for their ties to Harrison Garcia, a Miami-based producer who is on trial for federal drug charges.

According to the Miami Herald, Garcia bragged via text message about receiving $15,000 in his bank account from Chris Brown for drugs. In an exchange with a woman, Garcia shared a screenshot of a wire transfer from a Christopher Brown. When the woman asked why he paid Garcia, he responded by saying, “Drugs … lean and s***.” He also directed his "do-boy" to deliver drugs to Lil Wayne, as he texted, “I’ll shoot u some trees. It’s for Wayne.”

When he was first arrested in October, Garcia confessed that he sold "a lot of narcotics" to Lil Wayne. Agents believe that he used the money from the drugs to buy several luxury cars, guns, high-end clothing, and jewelry, including a chain that looked like a styrofoam cup spilling out lean.

Did Lil Wayne Betray His Young Money Crew?

It was recently reported that Lil Wayne sold his masters to Universal Music Group for $100 million back in June of this year. After documents of the deal were revealed, the sale reportedly included the master of Young Money artists as well. The three prominent artists on that list are Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Tyga. Given all of the work and culture shifts that the four artists have created, $100 million seems pretty cheap for ownership of their sound recorded copyrights.

This news led fans to speculate which albums were sold within the deal. According to the documents, the masters include every Drake album aside from his 2020 releases. Every 2020 release from the OVO CEO is under his OVO imprint in conjunction with Republic Records. Republic is also a subsidiary of Universal Music Group. Every project from 2009’s So Far Gone to 2018’s Scorpion is reportedly included in Wayne’s Universal deal. On the other hand, all of Nicki Minaj’s albums have fallen under the Young Money/Cash Money imprint since her debut release, Pink Friday.

Birdman And Mannie Fresh Reunites

It has been over a decade since Birdman and Mannie Fresh split after a legendary run together as the executive + producer team behind Cash Money Records' rise in the rap game. But come October 7, they will have officially put their long estrangement behind them, as the duo announced a Big Tymers reunion show that will mark Fresh's return to the label.

Holding down the exclusive role as in-house producer of Cash Money since 1993, Mannie Fresh was almost solely responsible for the production work behind the Hot Boys albums that put New Orleans rap on the map. He would also compose the solo projects of members Juvenile, BG, Turk and Lil Wayne, before forming the Big Tymers tandem with the label head himself. But in 2005 a royalties dispute spelled the end of his relationship with Birdman, and the two went their separate ways.

News of the group's restoration comes on the heels of the label's deal to release a documentary titled, "The Cash Money Story: Before Anythang," through Apple Music. On Friday, September 2, tickets went on sale for fans interested in seeing the Big Tymers perform hits off of their 5 album catalog, at the New Orleans' House of Blues. The show promises to feature special guest appearances, and with such a nostalgic Cash Money Films project abound, Birdman just may make a push to bring other members of the original Cash Money camp back into the fold.

Lil Wayne Facing 10 Years In Prison

Lil Wayne is facing 10 years in prison after the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida charged him with 1 count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. This stems from a December 2019 incident where feds searched Wayne's private jet in Miami and found a gun and ammunition.

Lil Wayne's attorney, Howard Srebnick, commented on the situation back in December, stating that the rapper was "cleared " to leave the airport after the search, despite drugs and guns being found aboard. His team has not provided a new statement in regards to the federal charges, but Wayne is expected to appear in court next month.

Lil Wayne Sues Former Lawyer

The rapper is suing Ronald Sweeney, an attorney who represented him from 2005 until 2018, for overcharging him during their 13 years working together, reports TMZ. According to docs obtained by the website, Lil Wayne claims that Sweeney was charging him 10 percent for every deal he helped close, even though industry standard is 5 percent.

In addition to overcharging Lil Wayne, the rapper also accused his former lawyer of trying to get even more money out of him. The docs claim that Sweeney, by enlisting the help of another firm, allegedly got himself an extra 23 percent from Wayne’s multimillion-dollar settlement with Cash Money Records and extra 15 percent from his settlement with Universal Music Group.

Wayne is seeking at least $20 million, according to TMZ.

Lil Wayne's Carter V Sets High Records

Lil Wayne
Lil Wayne was able to move an impressive amount of units with 480,000 equivalent album sales earned from Sept. 28 - Oct. 4. That tally marks the third biggest seven-day stretch for an album in 2018. The 433 million on-demand audio streams accrued are good enough for the second biggest streaming week of the year. The charting marks Tune's fourth No. 1 album following Tha Carter III, I Am Not a Human Being and Tha Carter IV.

See Wayne Full Profile

Lil Wayne Tour Bus Shot Up

What is going on with Lil Wayne and his music status. We’re told Weezy and a few other Young Money execs and artists — including Lil Twist and Hood – were on board at least one of the buses at the time of the shooting. It appears no one was injured, and it’s still unclear if Wayne was on board the bus that was hit.

Wayne performed at Compound nightclub on Saturday night … and sources tell us the shooting went down shortly after 3:30 AM — minutes after Wayne’s 2 tour buses pulled away from the club. The shooting the bus was driven to a nearby hotel, and that’s when someone in Wayne’s entourage called cops.

We’re told witnesses on the buses didn’t see much — their only description of the suspects is that they were in 2 white vehicles … a sports car (possibly a Corvette) and an SUV.

Lil Wayne's $15M Hidden Hills Mansion

Lil Wayne has been smooth sailing since he was granted clemency by former POTUS Trump in his final days in office. He did recently, however, call out the Recording Academy for their failure to invite him to the Grammy Awards ceremony this year, tweeting out a simple "F*k the Grammys."

Aside from that, Weezy has been busy lending out guest hooks and working on an exciting upcoming Young Money compilation album. Next up on the label founder's to-do-list is moving into a brand new LA mansion.
