Key Moments In Hip-Hop History

Hip hop is more than music; it’s a cultural movement that incorporates different elements of art. Before there was Lil Yachty, Young M.I.A., or YNW Melly, there was a world of hip hop artist who's name rain supreme even still today.

Back when music was real, artist had the opportunity to shine in their own distinctive way. Rap is one of the most distinctive features of hip-hop. Rappers use rhythm, lyrics, and vocal tone to express themselves. The best rappers are distinguished by their “flow” – the way the words run together without the performer getting tongue-tied.

Has Rock-N-Roll Always Been Apart Of Hip-Hop Culture?

Yes Hip Hop has always been apart of the Rock culture! Rock and Rap song were some of the best ever made still today! For an institution that is dedicated to immortalizing rock and roll’s greatest heroes, there are many inductees in there who are not quite typically thought of as rock artists.

You’ve got Grandmaster Flash, Run-DMC, Miles Davis, Madonna, and Tupac in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The confusion behind these inductees lies not with the quality of their work, but rather the categorization of it.

There are four other artists who have been nominated but have yet to be inducted—Afrika Bambaataa, LL Cool J, Eric B. and Rakim, N.W.A—and four more groups who have been considered for the ballot but who have not yet been nominated—Boogie Down Productions, De La Soul, the Sugarhill Gang, and the Treacherous Three.

"This Thing Called Hip Hop"

Hiphopbattle.com: One of the world's oldest hip hop websites specializing in urban progressive events and films. In 1999, Velocity Productions founded Hiphopbattle.com. It currently stands as one of the world’s oldest hip hop websites. In 2001, Velocity Productions completed the narrative feature film Hiphopbattle.com: HipHop for Life, which premiered at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and later screened at the Sundance Film Festival (2002) and Acapulco Black Film Festival (2001). Following the success of Hip-Hop 4 Life, the company produced a national city vs. city mc battle documentary series. This fifth and final installment of the series, Hip Hop Life (2007) became one of the first streaming hip hop movies on Netflix. It is now available on both iTunes and Amazon. The original mission of the website was to end all violence within the culture of hip hop through the elevation of MC Battle competitions. Over the last decade, the website has evolved its mission into creating the Neo-Hip-Hop movement.

Why Is Scareface The Most Loved Movie In Hip-Hop Culture?

The movie Scareface has been a huge staple in the hip hop community. Even rapper Jay-Z has dedicated countless rap lyrics and interludes to the film. The release of Scarface coincided with the rise of hip hop music.

The hip-hop community has single-handedly made the movie a cult classic. Even though the story of Tony Montana, a poor Cuban immigrant who quickly ascends through the ranks to become a drug kingpin, is actually a remake of a 1932 film of the same name.

Did Benny The Butcher Bring Real Rap Back

Every since rapper Nas did the album Hip Hop Is Dead that's when you saw hip hop/rap became more dumbed down than ever with more lack of commercial raps on the media or on radio stations, at the time real rap was unheard of unless if you was really a hip hop head that was looking for rap on mixtapes or searching on YouTube. Whitewash Hip-Hop

Rapper Iggy Azalea performs at Irving Plaza on May 5, 2014, in New York. When asked about Forbes’ claim that hip-hop is run by a white, blond, Australian rapper named Iggy Azalea, incumbent queen bee Nicki Minaj laughed hysterically. The financial magazine may be qualified to calculate the $250 million valuation of Nicki’s Myx Fusions Moscato wine coolers, Nicki reasoned, but only the hip-hop community can bequeath the throne to Iggy.

How hip hop introduces a cultural variety

Let’s look at three other examples of how cinema glorifies hip hop to expand your understanding of principal human values. These works can be used to study cultures, sociology, psychology, and other important disciplines.

“Take the Lead.” This 2006 film directed by Liz Friedlander tells about the classical ball dancing teacher and a bunch of teenage ruffians forming an unbreakable bond and creating a whole new style. It’s not a cheap drama but a powerful work with remixes of famous jazz songs that can truly make you dance. It encourages youngsters to rely on themselves, not someone else’s assistance.

Reigng - French (feat. Ashley Pater)

South Florida producer creates trippy, lo-fi, airy take on hip-hop with new single ‘French’

MIAMI, FL – A chill track paired with hard-hitting 808s comes together for a unique new take on the R&B/hip-hop fusion with the new single “French” from Miami-based artist Reigng. This modern-day love song has a definitive hip-hop feel, thanks to the beats produced by Reigng, but its chill, laid-back vibe is distinctly R&B and perfectly suits the one-of-a-kind vocals of UK artist Shango SK. The two linked up through a mutual friend in the music industry, and collaborated with a third artist named Ashley Pater from Canada to create this soon-to-be-hit that’s slated to drop across all streaming platforms on June 4.

Top 5 Reasons DJs Make The Best Producers

Those who know their history understand that DJing is the fundamental element of Hip Hop. Before the MPC, SP1200 or FLStudio, Emcees rocked over instrumental beds provided by DJs. The role of today’s hip hop producers is the natural evolution of this relationship, and here are 5 reasons DJs make the best producers.

If you want to be Hip Hop’s next big Producer, don’t purchase Fruityloops or Reason.... BUY SERATO! While that may sound odd, a quick look at some of Hip Hop’s top hit makers will clearly illustrate the strong connection between DJing and great production. Just google the discography of DJ Premier, Dr. Dre, Timbaland or Swizz Beats, all of which cut their teeth as DJs prior to becoming some of the most influential producers in hip hop.
