Donald Trump Becomes First Former President with a Mug Shot

 


Former United States President Donald Trump left his golf club in New Jersey on Thursday and headed to Georgia to turn himself in on charges related to his attempt to overturn the state's results of the 2020 election. Upon arrival in Georgia, he was booked at the Fulton County Jail and had his mug shot taken, making him the first former U.S. president to have this experience.

Funk Flex and Jay-Z's feud extends years, but the DJ added a new chapter by consigning a report accusing the Hip Hop mogul of cutting a deal with former President Donald Trump in exchange for Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez's pardon.


Funk Flex announced on Instagram that he has "a story to tell" in relation to the report. He posted a photo of a tabloid story covering Perez being accused of wearing wiretaps for the feds after her arrest.

Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez Pardoned By Trump


As one of his final acts as president of the United States, Donald Trump issued more than 140 pardons and commutations on Tuesday night (Jan. 19). Among those granted clemency were Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez, early Death Row Records backer Michael "Harry-O" Harris and rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black, according to the White House.


Perez was granted a full pardon for being involved in a conspiracy to distribute narcotics, the White House said, a conviction that is more than 25 years old. "Since her conviction, Ms. Perez has taken full accountability for her actions and has turned her life around," the White House said in a statement. "She has been gainfully employed and has been an advocate for criminal justice reform in her community."


"I'm grateful to have received a pardon and to have formally closed that chapter of my life in the eyes of the law," Perez said in a statement provided to Billboard. "I have taken full accountability for my mistakes from 25 years ago, but I also take tremendous pride in my personal growth, perseverance and accomplishments since then. This pardon reinforces my lifelong commitment to advocate for criminal justice reform and social justice initiatives."

Pop artists Jennifer Lopez and Lady Gaga will be among A-listers who will perform at the largely-virtual swearing-in ceremony of Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States on January 20.


Gaga, one-of-a-kind artist, performer and a trailblazer in beauty and fashion, will sing the national anthem and Lopez will give a musical performance on the West Front of the US Capitol, where the ceremony will be taking place.


Biden, 78, and Kamala Harris, 56, will be sworn in as President and Vice President of the United States during the ceremony.


But it won't be a typical inauguration, for several reasons.


The ongoing coronavirus pandemic and fresh security concerns following a pro-Trump mob breaching the Capitol last week have combined to force some changes to what is a historical American day.

Taylor Swift endorses Joe Biden

 


The superstar singer has announced she will be voting for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in the upcoming November election.

She expanded on her decision to do so in the new issue of V Magazine, a preview for which was released on Wednesday.

"The change we need most is to elect a president who recognizes that people of color deserve to feel safe and represented, that women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be acknowledged and included," Swift told the magazine. "Everyone deserves a government that takes global health risks seriously and puts the lives of its people first. The only way we can begin to make things better is to choose leaders who are willing to face these issues and find ways to work through them."

She added that she believes that under Biden and Kamala Harris, "America has a chance to start the healing process it so desperately needs."

University Of Kansas Apologizes To Snoop Dogg


The University of Kansas apologized for its risqué Late Night at the Phog event in which rapper Snoop Dogg performed, stripper poles were wheeled onto the Allen Fieldhouse floor and fake money was shot over the heads of prospective recruits.

The Jayhawks instead got an R-rated performance for their annual basketball kickoff and another big headache as they deal with a high-level NCAA infractions case tied to recruiting.

Kansas has been putting on Late Night for 35 years, but what began as a scrimmage to celebrate the start of basketball practices has turned into a night of skits, music and entertainment. That’s included big-name rappers in recent years, such as Tech N9ne, Lil Yaghty and 2 Chainz.

None of them brought the cache of Snoop, though. The 47-year-old rapper and well-known sports fan was expected to take the minds of players, fans and recruits off the specter of the NCAA investigation and turn attention fully to a season in which the Jayhawks are expected to be title contenders.

The school even promoted his appearance with a social media video of Hall of Fame coach Bill Self wearing a gaudy chain and Adidas shirt — the focus of the NCAA inquiry has been on the apparel company’s dealings with recruits, including whether officials paid them to steer them to its schools.

The school received a notice from the NCAA late last month alleging three severe violations tied to recruiting and a responsibility charge leveled against Self. Also cited is a lack of institutional control within the program.

The document does not detail what Kansas is accused of doing. The program is among the most prominent in an NCAA inquiry into a pay-for-play scheme that began with an FBI investigation into the apparel company Adidas.

Donald Trump Rants Off On Colin Kaepernick


When asked if he thought Kaepernick should get an opportunity to play again in the NFL, Trump said “only if he’s good enough.”

“Colin has always been prepared to compete at the highest level and is in the best shape of his life," a person familiar with Kaepernick's quest to return to the NFL told USA TODAY Sports on Friday. The person was granted anonymity because of the sensitivity of Kaepernick's comeback efforts. 

Kaepernick's last NFL appearance was in Week 17 of the 2016 season when he played for the San Francisco 49ers. Shortly after that season, Kaepernick opted out of his contract as he sought a better deal, but he has since remained a free agent.

“Only if he’s good enough,” Trump said outside the White House. “If he was good enough, they’d hire him. Why wouldn’t he play if he was good enough? I think if he’s good enough, I know the owners – I know (Patriots owner Robert) Kraft, I know so many of the owners – if he’s good enough, they’d sign him. ... 

“So I’d like to see it. Frankly, I’d love to see Kaepernick come in, if he’s good enough. But I don’t want to see him come in because somebody thinks it’s a good PR move.”

In August 2016, Trump said Kaepernick "maybe ... should find a country that works better for him. In September 2017, Trump said NFL owners should "get that son of a bitch off the field" when any players protest during the national anthem. Trump said in October 2018 that the NFL “should’ve suspended” Kaepernick for his protests of social inequality during the anthem.

In six seasons with the 49ers, Kaepernick, 31, threw for 12,271 yards and 72 touchdowns with 31 interceptions, and also ran for 2,300 more yards and 13 rushing scores.

Donald Trump Rants Off On Hollywood


U.S. President Donald Trump made a bold claim regarding the film industry while speaking to press outside the White House.

In the midst of discussing alleged anti-conservative bias in social media, Trump abruptly shifted the topic to entertainment, accusing Hollywood of “racism” without providing context.

Trump is criticizing Hollywood’s terrible history of whitewashing and perpetuation of harmful stereotypes. Considering that Hollywood has recently shown great commitment to diversity and inclusion, the statement seems untimely, at best.
