California Lifts Ban on Lowrider Cruising

Cruising is finally legal throughout the state of California. Lowriders, known for their modified cars with hydraulic suspensions, are now able to cruise down Whittier Boulevard in East Los Angeles and beyond without fear of being stopped or fined.

For decades, cruising was a popular pastime among young Latino drivers in California. It was a way of showcasing their customized cars, meeting other car enthusiasts, and enjoying the camaraderie of the car club community. However, in the late 1970s, cruising was curbed due to rising violence and negative stereotypes associated with the culture.

But now, thanks to the efforts of lowrider enthusiasts like Tomas Requejo, the cruising bans have been lifted. Requejo, who is both an attorney and a lowrider owner, worked tirelessly to reverse the restrictions and bring back the joy of cruising for future generations.

The Sheriff's Department, which previously led the charge to close the streets, is now working hand in hand with car clubs to ensure that the roads are open and safe for lowriders to enjoy.
