Video: Dyna Edyne - “I Don’t Work For You”

We can safely say that soul music has been around for a long, long time. And while that, in itself, is a great thing, it tends to become a little… saturated in time, as is the case with every great thing in life. It’s difficult now to find a truly talented soul artist. Someone who brings emotion and passion to their music, and manages to create new, innovative pieces without appearing to “bank” on old, tried and tested methods. That’s what Dyna Edyne does.

A young singer and songwriter, Dyna Edyne may be fairly new on the music scene, but in the little time she’s been here, she’s managed to make quite a name for herself. Her songs are heartfelt and have the unique gift of resonating with the listener on a deep, emotional level. And that’s what soul music is all about, isn’t it? Tying into all those emotions.

Her latest release, entitled appropriately “I Don’t Work for You”, is a visually and audibly stunning piece. Inspired by the disintegration of a past relationship, Dyna Edyne puts her heart into the music, pouring inside all that rollercoaster of emotions that accompanies any break-up.

“I Don’t Work for You” is a smooth and subtle emotional adventure that the artist uses to paint the vivid portrait of a relationship that’s breaking down. What’s wonderful about the song is that it’s easily relatable. You’ve been through a break-up, we all have. And more often than not, you’ll know exactly what she’s talking about. She comes at you from a place of depth and feeling that all the great R&B and soul singers have visited, at some point in their career.

Yet what sets Dyna Edyne apart from the crowd is that she makes the song relevant to today. This isn’t a bluesy love song from fifty years ago. This is something that’s happening now, and you know it. From the way the music is arranged, from her singing. Sometimes, even from the voice itself.

Interestingly enough, Dyna came to be doing this out of a deep personal conviction that in order to continue making relevant music in these genres, you need to understand the influence and importance of other, more modern genres. For example, a lot of what Dyna does at the present moment bears traces of hip hop, rap, R&B, soul, and even some new age. Rather than focusing on one single genre to excel in, Dyna Edyne gleams through them all, and somehow manages to shine on all counts.

Rather than getting lost amid all these different influences, Dyna Edyne takes the best aspects from each one and crafts something uniquely hers. She fits the true definition of an artist, because you can see, from everything she does, how devoted she is to her art.”
