Universal Music Group Shuts Down Apple Music Exclusives

(The Wrap-Up Magazine) Apple’s iTunes, Lucian Grainge, CEO of Universal Music Group and widely regarded as the most powerful executive in the music industry, has reportedly ordered the company’s labels to stop the practice of making “exclusive” distribution deals with streaming services.

According to Bob Lefsetz, author of an influential music industry newsletter, Grainge sent out a company-wide email on Monday. UMG, which boasted seven of 2015’s 10 best-selling albums and 38.5% of the year’s recorded-music sales, will be the first major label to ban the practice, which many feel has begun to diminish rather than enhance the way music is distributed and consumed.

The directive will affect dozens of bands under the UMG umbrella, including all five of this year’s album of the year Grammy nominees: Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, the Weeknd, Chris Stapleton and Alabama Shakes.

The practice of artists offering exclusives to competing streaming and download services, including Apple and Tidal, has been gaining traction this year. Both BeyoncĂ© and Rihanna launched their recent albums through Tidal, the streaming service part-owned by BeyoncĂ©’s husband, Jay Z.

Nick Cannon Enrolls Into Howard University

Nick Cannon didn't hear the end of the Drumline jokes throughout the weekend, after he announced his recent enrollment at Howard University on Saturday, [August 20]. The 35-year-old entertainer shared news of his matriculation via Instagram, posting a selfie taken by the entrance of the historic Black university.

"Just remember @NickCannon "You're on time if you're 5 minutes earlier, You're late if you're on time!" #OneBandOneSound PS - Congrats," tweeted Orlando Jones, pulling quotes from the 2002 film to congratulate his former castmate. Fans will recall that in the movie, Cannon played a freshman who joins the school band at an HBCU.

It is apparent that Nick has re-engaged his educational journey full-throttle, having since adorned his page with a series of adages about knowledge from the likes of Dr. T.P. Chia, Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib, Benjamin Franklin and Nelson Mandela. With his enrollment, he joins Stokely Carmichael, Toni Morrison, Thurgood Marshall and many other legendary artists and prominent social figures noted as Howard alumni. Good Job +Nick Cannon

DMX Welcomes 15th Child

DMX welcomed his 15th child into the world last Friday (Aug. 16) with his girlfriend Desiree Lindstrom. The baby boy's name is Exodus Simmons and he weighed six pounds, 10 ounces.

The veteran rapper's substantial family tree has caused him some issues in the past. In June 2015, DMX was arrested for unpaid child support. Just a few months after being released from that arrest, X was picked up yet again on charges of unpaid child support. His ex-wife and mother of four of his children, Tashera Simmons, accused DMX of missing his $10,000 a month child support payments following his prison release. At one point, reports said he owed about $400,000 in unpaid funds.

DMX ended up blaming it all on his former manager, who was fired late last year. X claimed the payments should have been handled by the business manager, and he assumed Tashera was getting the payments as usual until he got arrested.

2016 got off to a rough start as well, but it was because of his health.  DMX was found unconscious and rushed to a hospital in February. Luckily things have gotten better for Dark Man X as he started to do notable interviews, appeared at one of the Bad Boy reunion shows, and teamed up with his old Ruff Ryders associate, Styles P for a new song called "Still Scratching." With the birth of his baby boy, this appears to cap off a much better year for the Yonkers rapper.

Vita Capo - Trill Yung Lo

Houston Texas Rapper Trill Yung Lo is out with his new visual video titled Vita Capo. Watch it first here.

As The World Changes

Times are changing more and more. As humans get older, evolution evolves. The reality of life is that we are living in a different world than our parents once lived. A digital world. Today we can barely get by without phones, and computers.

Each and every day the world is changing and there’s nothing we can do to stop it.  So, we embrace change and go with the flow. Think of how different our lives would be without these objects we take for granted. Over these past one hundred years the world has continued to change and evolve. The earth’s population has increased by almost five billion people.

The world online continues to evolve and a transition from websites to social networks is emerging.  People want to interact by sharing thoughts and posting ideas or articles to their own sites and others. As the world continues to evolve we will only become more ingrained in this fast pace of life, so take 4 minutes and 55 seconds out of your busy life to relax and watch this video of how the world is currently changing.

Chief - Got Em

Continuing off of the success of his highly anticipated debut album "My Orbit", Chief is back with out of this world visuals for "Got Em", a head nodding, adrenaline pumping classic. Chief, a Portland native, has become a fairly familiar face in the Northwest Hip-Hop/Rap scene as of late. His charismatic energy has not showed any signs of slowing down a bit!

"Got Em" is a relatable hustlers anthem, the "Hate me then, love me now" type of vibe if you will. BRO Pluto's Jordan Carter also makes a cameo. If you're dwelling in the vibe, you can't help but play this movie from start to finish a few times. The triply visuals make you want to rewind it over and over. All in all, if you've got a check, and you're down to put your grind to the test, this is the perfect song for you my friend.
