Free Next Day Delivery By Walmart

Walmart unveiled NextDay, a new initiative to offer more than 220,000 popular items for one-day delivery with a minimum order threshold of $35. Walmart is starting the program off in Las Vegas and Phoenix, with Southern California next up for expansion. Walmart plans to roll the program out gradually over the coming months and reach roughly 75 percent of the U.S. population this year, including 40 of the top 50 U.S. cities.

The timing is interesting as it comes less than three weeks after Amazon said it would spend $800 million in the second quarter alone to make one-day delivery the standard for its Prime fast-shipping program.

Walmart is on track to offer Grocery Pickup from 3,100 stores and same-day Grocery Delivery from 1,600 stores by the end of the year, which would cover approximately 80 percent and 50 percent of the U.S. population, respectively.

Christian Band Members In Deadly Fight

This could get bigger than what it looks like. Arizona investigators have released dramatic video of a Walmart parking lot brawl that left a police officer wounded, one man dead, and reportedly involved members of a Christian family band.

Enoch Gaver, 21, was killed in the fight in the town of Cottonwood, and suspect David Gaver, 28, was shot in the stomach and taken into custody. Police Sergeant Jeremy Daniels was hit in the leg by a bullet fired during the melee.

The police dashcam video, released Friday, shows Cottonwood Police approaching the group of eight people -- all identified as members of the Gaver family -- around a large SUV in a Walmart parking lot on March 21.

Officers wanted to question them about the alleged assault of a Walmart employee who was going into the store bathroom. The police were accompanied by another Walmart employee. At least three members of the family are reportedly in a Christian band named "Matthew 24 Now," which is a Bible verse that refers to the end times, according to CNN affiliate KPHO. The family was living out of its Chevy Suburban.

$17 Million Awarded To Injured Woman At Walmart

A jury in West Virginia has returned a nearly $17 million verdict after a woman was injured when staffers tried to detain a shoplifter in Walmart.

A lawyer for 53-year-old Diane Ankrom says employees tried to detain the shoplifter when he ran into her shopping cart, in which she was pushing her granddaughter. Ankrom fell to the ground with the cart falling on top of her.

The jury found Walmart 30 percent responsible and the shoplifter 70 percent, though it's unclear how the money will be split.

16-Year-Old Murders Uber Driver

May 30th will forever be a day of mourning for the family of Grant Nelson, who was violently killed while working his usual cab shift in the northern Chicago region. Nelson had picked up 16-year-old Eliza Wasni from a Walmart store in Skokie at around 3 a.m. Records show that it was her 3rd Uber ride in two hours, and authorities believe that she plotted it that way.

Wasni's early morning began with an Uber to a train station at around 1:25 a.m. That trip was followed by an Uber to the Walmart from where she'd eventually be picked up by Nelson upon making her third Uber call. What Nelson may have sensed was that the passenger was in her late teens, at most. What he didn't suspect was that she was armed with a machete and a knife she had stolen from the superstore. He would only learn when he was ambushed from behind, as Wasni suddenly went off and began hacking and slicing him in the head, arms, side and chest.
The victim was able to pull over in front of a Condo building on Lincoln Avenue, where he ran out and banged for help before falling to a patch of grass. Wasni would put the car into drive and attempt to escape, but soon crashed. When police arrived, they found Wasni dying where he lay, and then began to comb the area.

They didn't have to go far to track Wasni down from where Nelson's blood-stained car remained. She had been hiding by an air-conditioning unit behind an office building, dressed only in her bra and leggings. She also remained in possession of the weapons, prompting police to draw their guns and demand that she place them down, to which she eventually complied.

Man Makes Millions Buying From Walmart and Selling on Amazon

This shows how you can make money any kind of way is willing to put the time into it. Ryan Grant, a 30-year-old entrepreneur whose company notched over $6 million in sales last year, in part by buying items at his local Walmart and reselling them on Amazon.

“My initial goal with this was just to replace the income that I was making from my accounting job, which at the time that I quit was $50,000 a year,” he said on Yahoo Finance’s live show YFi PM. “This has definitely exceeded what I thought possible and it has definitely exceeded my initial goals.”

“At the very beginning it was just me doing this out of half of a duplex that I was owner-occupying so there was product literally in every room of the house,” he said.

When he started making just as much through his side hustle as he was from his accounting day job, he decided to quit in 2013.

“It’s turned into a lot more than that today,” he said. “We’re still doing the retail arbitrage where we’re buying in retail stores and it’s expanded into buying from manufacturers and distributors of existing brands as well but it really all began with retail arbitrage.”

Now, Grant has moved his flipping operation to a 3,800-square-foot office with a staff of about 10 employees helping ship in bulk to Amazon. Selling through Amazon’s “Fulfilled by Amazon” program means individual orders are processed by Amazon out of their own warehouses, sparing Grant and his team the pain of shipping each individual order. He’s also started to branch out into selling on eBay and Jet, as well as his own e-commerce sites rather than relying solely on Amazon.

That said, sales continue to grow — from about $3.5 million in 2017 to $6.1 million in 2018. Despite the sales increase, Grant has dialed back his own annual salary to around $60,000 to instead opt to reinvest profits into the business. While that seems low, Grant said he’s only spending about 15 hours a week on the project as his staff handles day-to-day logistics, and is free to travel and work remotely.

Black Friday Violence

Call it Black-eye Friday. Black Friday brawls broke out all over the country starting on Thanksgiving. Shoppers fought at a Louisville, Ky., mall on Thanksgiving night, wrestling each other to the ground in a packed food court.

The fracas knocked a woman to the floor as shoppers at Mall St. Matthews gawked at the sight of two unidentified men slapping, punching and tearing at each other’s shirts. A police officer broke up the fight, as shown in video capturing at least 30 seconds of the melee. It’s unclear who or what sparked the fight or if the assailants will face criminal charges.

At least one participant in the fight was shown being ushered out of the food court by his friends. He made sure to pick up a shopping bag he had dropped on the floor. In addition, A fight video circulated on social media early Friday showing a scuffle between a group of men at a mall in Florence, Ky.

A shooter wounded one person who was left with non-life threatening injuries outside an Alexandria, La., mall on Thursday night, but local authorities quickly determined the attack had nothing to do with Black Friday. Big crowds drawn to Black Friday have drawn scrutiny for unruly behavior especially after the 2008 trampling death of a Walmart worker in Long Island.

Facebook Raises Minimum Wages For Employees

Facebook is increasing wages for its contract workers in the US, from janitors to content moderators.

On Monday, the Silicon Valley tech giant said that it will pay at least $22 per hour for content reviewers in the Bay Area, New York City, and Washington, DC; $20 per hour to those living in Seattle; and $18 per hour in all other metro areas in the United States.

Facebook has faced scrutiny over the pay and working conditions of its content moderators. An investigation from The Verge found that workers, who were being paid just $28,800 a year, faced intense working conditions and some developed PTSD.

The $520 billion company is also raising wages for US contract workers like cafeteria staff and janitors to a minimum of $20 per hour in San Francisco Bay Area, New York, and Washington, DC, and to $18 per hour in Seattle.

"In the years since, it's become clear that $15 per hour doesn't meet the cost of living in some of the places where we operate. After reviewing a number of factors including third-party guidelines, we're committing to a higher standard that better reflects local costs of living," the social media giant said in a blog post.

Walmart, the world's largest retailer and the largest US private sector employer, pays workers $11 an hour at entry-level, while Target said in April it would raise its US minimum wage to $13 an hour.
