Kendrick Lamar Named "Greatest Rapper of His Generation"

Drake, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar were three of the best-selling rappers of the 2010s. They released their debut albums in succession (2010, 2011, and 2012), and the age difference between the iconic emcees is only two years. Each of the thought-provoking recording artists has Grammy awards on their resume, with legions of fans who will vouch for their superiority as lyricists.

However, when it comes to the writers and editors at the New York Times, they have determined that Kendrick Lamar reigns supreme, which is an accomplishment considering that media outlets on the East Coast, whether they're hip-hop based, pop culture magazines or daily newspapers, have historically heaped such praise on rappers in their region, for the most part.

#BringItBack Kendrick Lamar - Ignorance Is Bliss #Throwback

The eighth track on Kendrick Lamar’s first full-length mixtape, Overly Dedicated, is titled after a popular idiom which translates to “what you don’t know can’t hurt you.” Kendrick raps the first verse without taking a single breath. This has become something of a habit for Kendrick Lamar as he repeated this feat on 2010’s “Look Out For Detox” and 2011’s “Rigamortus.”

Kendrick Lamar Is Waiting To Release New Albums

We haven't heard any new solo music from Kendrick Lamar in a while, but that doesn't mean he hasn't been working. According to his personal engineer, Derek "MixedbyAli" Ali, K-Dot is sitting on six album's worth of unreleased tracks.

Ali was a guest on The ETCs With Kevin Durant Podcast on Thursday (Nov. 12), where he talked with co-host Eddie Gonzalez about his career and working closely with the Top Dawg Entertainment team. He spoke specifically about Kendrick's work ethic, saying the Compton, Calif. MC has tons of material he hasn't put out yet.

"For Kendrick alone, let me say, I think we could put together like six albums," Ali said around the 34-minute mark. "And, you know, we got everyone's the same way. It's all about just understanding that you could do something better. It's having that mindset to strive for the best possible version of you possible."

Streaming Music Has Sold More Than CDs

I have not heard a soul in this world that say they dislike +Spotify. Even artist can +Get Your Music On Spotify now and days. The music industry is changing, with music streaming earning more money than the sale of CDs for the first time ever in 2014. According to the RIAA, music streaming earned a total of $1.87 billion in 2014, while CDs generated $1.85 billion, with the entire industry earning $6.97 billion overall, which was slightly down from their numbers in 2013.

Though these numbers are close, it’s clear that streaming is on the upswing while CDs are becoming a thing of the past, especially with Spotify records already getting shattered by Kendrick Lamar and Drake just three months into the year. Now all music streaming services needs is for Taylor Swift to get on board, and it’s a wrap.
