A man strangled and stabbed a pregnant Terrytown woman in a rage after learning he was not the unborn baby’s father, Jefferson Parish authorities said Wednesday in announcing the suspect’s arrest. The two began arguing, and Calderon grabbed a knife, stabbing her three times, according to authorities. Calderon also admitted to choking Martinez until she died, the sheriff’s office said.
Emilio Calderon, 29, of Larose, confessed, said Col. John Forunato, spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, and will be booked on charges of second-degree murder and first-degree feticide. Calderon was being held for now in a Lafourche Parish, where he was arrested.
Martinez’s mother discovered her body on the kitchen floor just before 1 a.m. after breaking down the door to the apartment at 617 Whitney Ave., Terrytown. Martinez’s mother had become concerned when she did not arrive to pickup her mother from the airport earlier in the evening.
